  1. I got three of them 12ah batteries off Joe Ox well over 10 years ago, I think I gave him a dozen hen or ducks eggs for them LOL ! Two of them are still 100% effective, I’ll not be paying £100 for a lithium while the young p***y I lamp with will carry the old lead/acid batteries! LOL ! Cheers.
  2. Dodger , you must be fitter than me ! I used to use a 17 amp/hr years ago, but dropped down to a 12. Now I’m seriously thinking about one of those new fangled lithium things ! Cheets.
  3. I’ve got loads of videos of him riding his horse, trotting , cantering and galloping, on the lunge and riding free, my hearts in my mouth but he’s confident ! His instructor must worry more than me because he’d be thrown in jail if anything bad happened ! LOL ! Cheers.
  4. His family don’t like dogs , but the Prince that sponsors him has Jack Russells and one of his uncles has dogs, so he’s around them . He loves our chihuahua and says it’s his dog, but he doesn’t like the Deer x as he says it’s hyper ! Its a bit of a myth that Arabs don’t like dogs, I worked for a Saudi sheik that had lurchers that Peter Stringfellow sent him from the queens kennels in Sandringham and also bred Rottweiler and Border Collies. I was gifted a saluki many years ago and when it died he sent me a Doberman to replace it, which I brought home and even gets a mention in one of Darc
  5. He loves his horses, he’s been on a horse since before he could walk. When he’s here, he’s with the dogs and horses. I’ll have him out on the sulky or the ragmans cart next time he’s here! Not sure what his mother will think ! LOL ! Cheers.
  6. I sadly only managed to get my son out hunting once , when he was in his 30’s . He was more an academic type, but enjoyed a bit of ferreting with his old dad ! Cheers.
  7. That’s fantastic, mate ! Look at their faces ! A joy ! Cheers.
  8. My daughter brought a seven a side team over from Dubai to play in a competition played at St.James’. They were Emirate’s, Saudis and the son of Ugandas finance minister. I booked them into the Copthorne hotel but they spent most of their time at my house or at Shearers bar, and would only drink Blue WKD, as they insisted it wasn’t alcoholic ! LOL ! Cheers.
  9. A pure bull bitch I owned; A bull x and a coursing bull I had in my kennel for a very short time , certainly not enough time to make decisions on the merits of failings of either type; Cheers.
  10. You’re, as usual, talking about coursing dogs, so, yes, the saluki revolutionised hare coursing, but there’s lads who do foxes and deer wouldn’t have saluki in their lines. There are many dog men who have absolutely no interest in hares and they prefer other types. You may think the saluki hybrid should be the only weapon in the armoury, but many would disagree. To be fair, if I only did daytime hare coursing, I’d have saluki hybrids, because they are simply the best at that game IF you get a decent one, but to denigrate other dog mens choices for what they do just makes you sound silly.
  11. Saturday night; snooker on the telly, Arsenal v Newcastle on the iPad and whippets on THL…. Oh the joy ! LOL ! Cheers.
  12. I personally think they should be called “race dogs” but let’s not forget, the non- ped was around long before the ped and the BWRA , the non-ped body was around before the WRCA, the body for peds. When the BWRA raised their weight limit to 55lb, I was outspoken against it, and when I said I’d seen smaller greyhounds win the Waterloo Cup, they banned me from their forum ! But it’s their sport, their rules , and anyone who doesnt like it can get a pedigree whippet and race it. Just as much fun, but not as fast . Cheers.
  13. I would say there is a much bigger percentage of whippet in the non-peds than greyhound. No one tries to hide the fact that there is greyhound In their dogs but if you try to put too much greyhound blood in, you defeat the object of trying to breed a dog with the size of a whippet and the speed of the greyhound and fall foul of the weight limits the two main governing bodies have. The weight limits for Racing Championships are from 16lb to 32lb in 2lb increments. Anything over 32lb can enter the various heavyweight or no-limit scratch racing. Cheers.
  14. We used small greyhound bitches to breed non- peds to keep the pups weight down for racing, nothing to do with hares. I remember talking to the lady who owned the American bitch , Cashells Evening that put up such a good show at the last Waterloo Cup, it was only about 50lb and 24”, smaller than some of todays non-peds ! Cheers.
  15. Just had a quick look; Ballyregan Bob did 44:65 seconds, 16.5 metres per second over 740 metres at Hove . Form Of Magic has the track record 43:49 which is just over 17 metres per second over 740 at Hove. So the time has improved and Form of Magic would , theoretically, beat Ballyreagan Bob by around 16 metres. Cheets.
  16. Yeah, we had Newcastle Diamonds Speedway and greyhound racing at Brough park. Cheers.
  17. He’s at the CPAC conference in America with his pal The Donald ! Cheers
  18. I’d say the times, on average, have improved. Ive not really looked at the times in detail for greyhounds but I do know that the non- ped times have improved dramatically. When I came home 20 years ago and got back into the whippets I couldn’t believe the times the lads were telling me so I bought a stop watch and sure enough the times were right. They’ve improved again in the last 20 years. Back when I was handicapping, a scratch dog would do 9 seconds for 150 yards, 20 years ago there were very, very few that were doing 8 seconds, now there are quite a few getting below 8 seconds
  19. No, I knew instantly that you got your maths the wrong way round. It was 50 years ago when I was handicapping and whippets and greyhounds have got faster in that time, so if I was to do it now, I’d handicap at 17 yards per second rather than 16 yards per second as I used to. Now you can get on with the homework I sent you and also write 100 times “ I must not contradict on something I know nothing about” ! Cheers.
  20. Try dividing 480 by 27 and you get 17 yards per second…….Which is even faster than when I used to handicap . So now you’re telling a handicapper how to handicap ? Cheers.
  21. They are timed and handicapped over the distance they run ! There are fast starters and fast finishers, slow starters and slow finishers ,it averages 16 yards per second. We’ve been through all this before. You take the time your scratch dog, (the fastest), does then the slower dog gets 1 yard start for every 6/100 hundreds of a second slower it is, which equates to 16 yards per second If the fastest whippet does 8 seconds for 150 yards and a slower one does 9 seconds it gets 16 yards start. If the fastest greyhound does 27 seconds for 480 yards and a slower one does 28 seco
  22. I’m not sure what you mean ? If the saluki was four seconds slower than the greyhound, that’s a distance! The saluki would have just been on the third bend when the greyhound was crossing the finish line ! If coursing breeds were faster than whippets and greyhounds , people would be racing coursing breeds, there would be no whippet and greyhound tracks. Whippet and greyhound are used as base breeds for lurchers to add speed, saluki to add stamina and staying power. Weve been round and round this so many times, it’s getting repetitive, so I’ll bow out gracefully! LOL ! Cheer
  23. Three seconds is 48 yards. Four seconds is 64 yards !!!! Whippets and greyhounds are handicapped on 16 yards per second. Cheers.
  24. What makes you think a non-ped can’t run on winter arable ? This bitch from the 70’s, Daisy, sired by a ped whippet to a greyhound dam, (Bilko x Frozen Kill) is, in my mind , the greatest non-ped ever. I saw it beat a coursing bred , two out of two , quite easily, but then that was it, it wouldn’t have got near a third hare. Its litter brother, Robbo, could also easily stop a hare, but again, didn’t have the stamina to run more than two. I ran non-peds on all types of ground and they had the initial speed, but once again, not the stamina to run more than a couple, hen
