  1. Home made “peaches & cream” sponge cake; Cheers.
  2. It’s like debating with a truculent toddler that has discovered wikepedia ! LOL ! But I’m overjoyed that he is learning something new every day ! Cheers.
  3. His family came from Washington, Tyne & Wear. His ancestral home is Washington Hall. I lived in Washington for a while and remember Jimmy Carter visiting the Hall and planting a tree. Cheers.
  4. Trotsky advocated “permanent revolution” to include turning the western democracies communist. Hardly sounds like a western puppet. There seems different opinions on Karenskey’s death, but you asked who the Russians killed, I gave two names one of whom is indisputable. I’ll ask you the same question I asked Peter Hitchens when he was extolling the virtues of Russia over western democracies ; “If Russia is so good, why aren’t you living there?” I hope for a less aggressive answer than I got from him ! LOL ! Cheers.
  5. Both executed by their opponents. Don’t try to re-write history . Cheers.
  6. Karenskey was the first President of Russia after the revolution. Stalin had Trotsky killed so he could take power. Cheers.
  7. C’mon mate there’s two I can think of straightaway; Karenskey and Trotsky, both executed by their opponents after a coup. I’ve told you a million time …..do your homework ! LOL ! Cheers.
  8. Non-ped whippet; Back in the 60’s. Cheers.
  9. I’ve often thought about importing dogs, ( I’ve actually imported three; two from Australia and one from Saudi, but they weren’t working dogs). So why import , well it would be more from the heart than the head, there’s nothing in this country that can’t be caught with our own types and breeds. Years ago, imported Salukis added to the coursing dog, but would they add anything now ? I doubt it. Staghounds from Australia ? I’ve seen them work and as impressive as they are, they are for the ground and quarry down there, probably not for here. They may add something, but I’m not sur
  10. I’ve generally had very good bosses, but one incident springs to mind. Two of the directors called me into the office and said they had been told I left a training course early and they were going to suspend me for a week. They didn’t ask my version of events, so I told them they wouldn’t be suspending me, as I was already pondering an offer from one of their competitors, and they had just made my mind up for me ! As I was leaving, they said please wait and let us discuss it, I replied that they couldn’t think much of my worth to the company if they could do without my input for a week
  11. I think it depends how far left the new intake of Labour MP’s are. We could see Starmer defenestrated and end up with Prime Minister Angela Rayner and the most far left government we’ve ever had . Cheers.
  12. Won by 98 votes after three recounts evidently . Cheers.
  13. Do you tell the restauranteur that you are a renowned food critic when you’re taking all the photos, and get the grub for nowt ? LOL ! Cheers.
  14. No he didn’t, he said they were still counting. It took three recounts . Cheers.
  15. Breaking news; Reform win Basildon after recount; now have five MP’s ! Cheers.
  16. “Scottish Deerhound “ is a Scottish Deerhound. ”English Deerhound “ is a cross between a Scottish Deerhound and a Greyhound. Simple as that, really…… Cheers.
  17. Go to any gold and silver souk in the Middle East and buy as much gold as you want for cash, no questions asked . Cheers.
  18. I’m only guessing but it looks like some “real politik “ is going on behind the scenes. Putin has offered to “share “ the Crimea with Ukraine, and now the horse trading begins with NATO’s counter offer to not allow Ukraine to join. There will be a lot of shuttle diplomacy going on between the West and Russia that we won’t hear of until an agreement that saves face for both sides is agreed, and both sides will claim victory. The West can’t afford to keep pouring billions of dollars into the war, and Russia can’t afford to keep pouring millions in men and matériel into it. Just
  19. Homemade “big b*****d pasty”; Cheated a bit with oven chips ; Cheers.
  20. I thought it was quite humorous; he’s sold his car and the buyer has had his pants down ! Maybe it’s just us older members that see the funny side ? Cheers.
  21. Derek Chisora is Nigel’s new “Head of Security “ ! Cheers.
  22. Saudi is actually a hereditary monarchy with a “shura “ , an elected cabinet of ministers, not a dictatorship. And I was free to come and go as I pleased apart from the fact they gave me a salary and conditions I could only dream of in the UK. But all that’s irrelevant, I wasn’t a citizen of Saudi and I’m a great believer in “ when in Rome…”. Cheers.
  23. I think the huge rise in GB population is unsustainable. It doesn’t matter what anyones views are on immigration; if we don’t have the infrastructure; houses, schools, hospitals, GP’s, etc, to absorb these people, we simply cant keep expanding the population at the rate we currently are without risking a breakdown of society. Cheers.
  24. To be fair, Truebrit66 did say ENGLAND, and he’s correct. Cheers.
  25. As Churchill said; “ Democracy is the least bad form of government “. So even he agreed that democracy isn’t perfect, but it’s better than the other alternatives. I believe in the theory of “benevolent dictatorship” , but sadly a benevolent dictator would soon drop the “benevolent “. In the words of Lord Acton ; “ Power corrupts….absolute power corrupts absolutely “ ! So, on reflection, although democracy isn’t perfect, it’s worked pretty well since the ancient Greeks, and has seen off communism and fascism and dictatorship so I’ll stick with it for now ! Cheers.
