  1. Yep, theres one at home !! In fact there were two of them, a vixen and a dog !
  2. Aussie style digging; five of us standing around drinking beers and one guy digging ! LOL !
  3. We then moved on to do some dens and bolt some foxes with the terriers. The first den was in a pile of burried volcanic rocks; the farmers dig these out of their fields and either bury them or pile them up around the fields, they make pefect dens for the foxes, but hard work for the terriers and diggers ! There was a fox at home, but no way for us to get to it ! The next den was in an embankment of a dam, and much easier digging; and produced two foxes.
  4. The first place we tried was a flood plain with a spike grass gulley along it. The Stag was positioned at the end of the plain, the Whippets behind in case anything got by the Stag, and I was on the higher ground with the Roo dog. Two of the guys went into the spike grass with the terriers and shotgun and beat towards us. A fox broke cover onto the plain and I had a perfect view of the Stag coursing it. Another broke to the side of the Stag and a short course put the fox back into cover. Another broke behind the Stag, right in front of the Whippet, who were slipped but lost it in the spikes. W
  5. The Land : This was some of the biggest land I have ever seen !! Stubble and grass feilds as far as the eye could see; it reminded me of the American and Canadian plains, and made the Fens look about as big as my allotment ! LOL !
  6. I've had to buy a pre paid dongle and it's SO slow !! Anyhow, one of the lads from Ozziedoggers site picked me up at 5 am, and we drove a couple of hours west to meet up with three other guys from the site. We got there just as dawn was breaking. The quarry was fox, and we had a 'Roo dog, a Staghound, two Whippets and a pack of Jack Russels with us.
  7. Hi mate, thanks for a great days hunting !!! My daughters internet is down just now, I'm posting this from a freinds house. The pics came out great, I'll do a write up and put the pics up when she gets reconnected. I'd love another hunt, anytime !! Cheers.
  8. I started lamping in the late 60's, and the lads that started me off were doing it earlier. We used any car headlight or spotlight we could get from the local scrapyard and rigged up a handle from a piece of broomstick and a toggle switch that used to be used in cars and household ligthing in those days. You could always tell a "Lamper" in the pub as his coat pocket would be rotted away from acid leaking from the (unsealed) motor bike batteries we used !! The lamps wern't nearly as powerful as the ones today, but we still managed some good bags !! Cheers.
  9. His sister. Lima, does the same thing if she hears me going out !! I'm going hunting tomorrow, getting picked up at 5.30 in the morning and driving about 2 hours out. I got some new kit from an Aussie surplus store yesterday, and am going out later to get some "tinnies" and pies for when we break for lunch !! LOL !! Cheers.
  10. Has anything changed recently ? Alarm clock going off, milkman in the street, neighbours going out to work, etc.??? Something is setting him off if he does it the same time every day. Cheers.
  11. I'm just outside Melbourne, Tomo. Been down here a few times, but wasn't on hunting sites then, and before digital cameras !LOL! I think we're going a couple of hours up north at the weekend, I'll make sure I take spare batteries for the camera ! Cheers.
  12. I'm realy looking forward to the weekend !! I travelled light and didn't expect the cold and rain, (even tho' my missus, who has been down here four month, warned me ! LOL !), so my daughter has had me out shopping today for a coat and hat !! Hope the rain keeps off, but I'm sure that won't affect a good days hunting ! Be good to meet you all ! Cheers.
  13. I know they are not Lurcher books, but anything by Barry Crump, the New Zealand Bushman, (especialy "A Good Keen Man"), are great reads for anyone interested in hunting and dogs. Cheers.
  14. These two wouldn't look out of place in the U.K. Basicaly bred from generations of Lurcher to Lurcher; Cheers.
  15. This is the dog with Wolfhound in him; a big powerfull dog, takes all quarry he finds ! Cheers.
  16. Hi Moo, I've been to NZ a few times, and did a bit of pig hunting, but to tell the truth I've never seen a Lurcher or running dog down there, although I know they have them. The dogs the guys used in NZ that I went out with were basicaly any dog that had the minerals to mix it with a boar, that included collies, ridgebacks, lab x's, bull types, etc. It's a different kind of land there, mainly forest blocks and native bush. The land I've just been on was paddocks with blackberry and gorse. The terrier flushed to the Lurchers. The guys told me the foxes rarely go to ground in this particular are
  17. About the same as a summers day in NEWCASTLE !!! lol !!! Seriously tho', I couldn't believe we had ice on the screen when we went out at seven !!! Cheers.
  18. Yep !! That be me !! LOL !! Cheers. lol well that avatar suits you well then  how long you there for??? Just 'till the season starts back home, round about september time. Cheers.
  19. Foxes, mate, and of course there are rabbits EVERYWHERE !! LOL !! Cheers.
  20. I'm in Australia on family business, and contacted some of the hunting lads down here for a few days hunting. The lads off "OzzieDoggers" did me proud and took me out on saturday and are arranging some more trips out. Four of us went out with five Lurchers and a Terrier and chased a few critters, more of an informal walk about to see the land and see the dogs work. I'm hoping to get out on a full blown hunt up country next, with hounds flushing to the Lurchers and also a bit of hare coursing ! Big thanks to Boodog, Moses and Frankie, great guys with top class dogs !! Cheers.
  21. Well, if you can get insurance for less than £10 a month, with no excess, that's great ! And for any one who is talking about working dogs... I've never had one company ask, either on line or on the phone, if the dog is a worker.... as I said erlier, the only restrictions I've found is "Racing Dogs". But I will say... insurance is a must if you work your dog, espesialy lamping ! Vet bills are outrageous now, so it's a choice between having your dog "fixed" or PTS !! Cheers.
