  1. I don't think it is anything to do with being Irish !I think some people just jump in and assume it was in the UK, unless the poster states it was in a country where it's sill legal. Cheers.
  2. I've only got four hens, but they have been laying everyday. Probably due to the very mild winter we are having ! Hope it stays this way. Cheers.
  3. And I was moaning 'cause I had a blank night on tuesday !! At least I had no drama's ! Hope the dog recovers quickly !! Cheers.
  4. That sounds OK in theory, but if you look at the Greyhound thread with the video of Cashels Evening, at the last Waterloo Cup, the far bigger dog she is in with, leads up and makes the first turn, then the little bitch takes over and domnates the course to win. So it's not allways the first dog to the hare that wins. Cheers.
  5. A very good post. I got banned from posting on K9, as I said 25" 55lb "Whippets" are not realy Whippets !! I think the breed standard is about right, 22",I think, for dogs. Anything above this and you have to wonder if there is Greyhound in there !! The WRCA have been, evidently , doing DNA tests on some of the Racing Pedigree Whippets, as there has been a bit of cheating going on by adding greyhound blood. The "Whippets" I have seen catching hares, have been the "NON-Ped" type, and certainly had Greyhound in their lineage. Cheers.
  6. What do you mean by pace..not a dig im just wondering.. as folk most certainly have different veiw's and idea's..my idea of pace is a dog running at speed but not putting everything into it..and running for a long period of time covering a lot of ground with each effortless stride...i have seen the odd grey with good pace and even a whippet x grey but never a pure whippet..as i think there back's and bodies are too small.. Hi, my idea of pace may be different to some others idea , but when watching Racing Whippets we talk of early pace; finishing pace, etc. So i would class "pace" as sp
  7. I find it strange when people say Whippets have no pace !! Pace is their main attribute ! I've had a few of the Non-Ped Racing Type Whippets that took hare regularly, but I doubt if the Ped types can do it regular. Of course they will take the odd one, but can never be considered "hare dogs" ! I think it was Walsh who said a Whhippet was overmatched by a hare, and hare wasn't realy a Whippets legitimate quarry, and he was the Whippets biggest supporter, and heavily involved in the NWCC ! Great dogs, but as I said on the Whippet v Fox thread, yes they CAN do it, by why overmatch them, when there
  8. I suppose it depends on the type of Whippet you are talking about. I'm sure there is the odd Ped type that will take fox, but I wouldn't call them "fox dogs". The Non-Ped type, especialy the bigger ones should be able to do fox , but once again, I wouldn't class them as "fox dogs". Best thing , if you want to take fox, (where it's legal), get the correct dog for the job. Whippets of all types are grand dogs, but theres no point overmatching them, when there are far better crosses for the job. Cheers.
  9. Brilliant things !! I've just finished eating a hare stew made in one !! Portion the hare, put it in the slow cooker with a bag of frozen "Country Mix" veggies, some gravy granules, switch it on before you go to bed, it'll be ready when you get up !! Definately NOT gormet food, but dead easy and tastes delicious !! It's also the only way I can cook leg of venison without it going tough! Cheers.
  10. Could be in a country where it's legal. Possibly should have mentioned it though. Cheers.
  11. I think you will find that the summerhouse is owned by the council at shady acres retirement home I wondered who all those doddery old people sitting around the place were ?? Cheers.
  12. Shed ???? How common; WE have a summer house !! LOL !! Cheers.
  13. I though Whin was an obnoxious, arrogant, deluded, illiterate fool, who could wind me up like no one else could !! I tried to ignore his baiting, but allways ended up biting !! LOL !! At the end of the day, I think most knew he was just the site idiot, but fairly harmless....I'll miss his nonsense, I don't think he realy knew he was upsetting people, and don't think he should be banned ! Cheers.
  14. You say "after EACH time" !! FFS, there shouldn't have been a SECOND time !!!! Are you sure the dog game is realy for you ? And "what damage can it do " ? How about aborted lambs, sheep running into fences, etc ? The sheep don't know it's only 5 months old....and the farmer won't care how old it is when he, rightly, shoota it !!! Cheers.
  15. You know for a fact your dog goes for sheep, yet you are STILL letting it do it ???????????
  16. "Some days will, some days won't" !!!! Surely ONCE is more than enough ????? Cheers.
  17. If you know the owner, why not just ask him if you can have the dog to rehome it ? Just taking it isn't the answer, could open a huge can of worms !! Cheers.
  18. In the days when lamping was in it's infancy, and daytime working was the norm, a good Lurcher was supposed to do "the four tricks", HJKC. If a dog couldn't jump, it was considered useless. Cheers.
  19. If the dog jumps properly, you won't have many vet bills. What about it hitting fences when the quarry goes thru' ? Surely it's better to jump than try and run thru' ? I think jumping is essential for a Lurcher. Cheers.
  20. Do you not think it was a bit young to give up on ? Cheers.
  21. "Whippets no real pace" ????? LMFAO !! Cheers.
  22. Then why would they want to breed a litter, if they couldn't use the best ? Cheers.
  23. I don't understand your bit about "certain parts of the country" ? This country is small enough to travel any where to get the right dog. Anyone who would use a "pet", instead of travelling for the right stud shouldn't be breeding dogs. Cheers.
  24. Any type of dog will catch a rabbit, I had a Doberman that caught the odd daytime rabbit, more to good luck than anything else, but they cannot be classed as "rabbiting dogs". If you just want a bit fun with a collie, why not ? But you will probably get sick of missing far more rabbits than it will ever catch. Cheers.
  25. Worth their wheight in gold for what ? The fact is the lad who bred hem should have been up front about the breeding, instead of lying ! Fair do's to the lads that kept them, but they are now stuck with a dog they didn't realy want ! Cheers.
