matching will be end to coursin
chartpolski replied to Green Island Hunter's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I doubt that Match Coursing had anything to do with the ban, as the vast proportion of the populace knew nothing about it ! The ban came about because the Labour party wanted to stick it to the "Tory Toff Fox Hunters", and coursing, beagling, mink hunting, etc, were simply unfortunate by-products of the ban ! Yes, the Waterloo Cup was targeted, but that wasn't the same as Match Coursing. Matches have been, and will carry on , being illegaly run. Before the ban many, many, matches were run and very few people heard about them.If I was a Match man these days, I'd be horrified by the hangers on a -
I've got family in Rotaroa, although they have no interest in hunting, whenever I was down there they put up with me going out in the dark and coming home in the dark, with tales and photo's of some great places and things we'd been up to ! I was supposed to go and meet Barry Crump, but the old bugger died before I could get across to see him for a yarn ! Next time I'm down, I'll give you a shout ! Cheers.

Steve, surely they are not all "Captain Cookers" ? The "Captain Cookers" I saw around Tokaroa and down to Taupo were huge ginger buggers, but they were well outnumbered by the typical black, black and white, spotted types of feral pigs. This little bugger was unfourtunate to get hit by a car as we ran him out of NZFP land near Toke. What clubs do you hunt with ? We may have mutual aquaintances, although it's been a fair while since I was in NZ. Cheers.

I think we are all, broadly, in agreement that worker to worker is the best way..... but surely there is a case for the first cross that ISN'T from "workers" ? I own one; another well known lad on here has a tremendous Collie/Grey, 1st cross; were it's parents "workers" ? How many of the 1st cross Bull/Greyhounds on here are out of "workers" ? How many of the Salukis that have produced the finest hare coursers in the world , were actualy "workers" ? OK, working ability is great, but breeding and stockmanship also comes into it. They all play a part in producing good Lurchers. Cheers.

chartpolski replied to welshdragen's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
you could start an argument in an empty room! I didn't realise my post was an "argument". Sorry if you thought it was. I was just talking sense, and would rather lads didn't get into bother ! I've NEVER had permission, by the way; and have allways walked "on the other side of the fence", and been caught and sentenced accordingly, and nowadays have a bit more sense. I still do it, but try to avoid confrontation. If my posts offend you, there's a simple remedy.... don't read them ! Cheers. -
I'm an old tradistionalist who likes hairy Greyhounds and hairy Whippets, but I was lucky enough to see Jack and Moscow in the flesh; unfourtunately they were well past their prime then, but it's good for the game that their prodgeny is doing so well !! Cheers.

silly talk, its all in the blood, you breed from pets you get pets.all the lads at the top of there game have one thing in common,a good line of dogs behind them. if it's 'all in the blood' it surely doesn't matter whether the blood works or not corse it does how do you know whats in the blood if its not tested an if inferior dogs turn up then surely they have to be culled no good breeding off something you think is in the BLOOD if you havent tested it so hypothetically you wouldn't take a lurcher pup bred out of top honcho's unraced unworked sister I took a pup out of West

The Wiemarana is a tremendous dog in it's own right, the "Grey Ghost" they are sometimes called. But they are HPR's and in my mind, have no place in Lurcher breeding. They add nothing. Cheers.

So young !! LOL !! She's 6 1/2 !! But it's only a skin tear, no muscle damage, and yes, I reckon about a week Cheers.

Good to hear, mate, Lima's doing well, will pm you the details. Cheers.

chartpolski replied to welshdragen's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
The "Hunting Act 2004" is such a badly advised, badly thought out, badly draughted, badly constructed law, that no one is exactly sure how to interpret the "gray" areas, So if the police, magistrate, judge, etc says you need a written permision letter and you say you don;t.... you better get a very good, very expensive btief !!! Far easier , if you have permissionn get a letter ! Cheers. -
As much as I love Deerhound crosses, and I own a couple.....this is like "Groundhog Day" !! LOL !! Cheers.

chartpolski replied to welshdragen's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
doesn't have to be written does it? the law just says permission doesn't it? it says written for terrier work but not for rabbiting/ratting. Yes it DOE'S have to be written. If you don't have your permission letter with you, how doe's the cop know you have permission ? .... OH !! That's right !!! He 'phones the farmer or landowner at 3 o'clock in the morning to check, and pisses him off so you lose whatever permission you had ! Cheers. -

It's ilegal to hunt ANY mammal with dogs, day or night, including rabbits ! Rabbits and rats have an exemption ONLY if you hav WRITTEN PERMISSION from the landowner or tenant, so if you didn;t have written permission, and you were lamping, then the copper was right !! Any amount of barrack room lawyers will tell you it's ok to lamp rabbits; but believe me, IT'S NOT unless you have WRITTEN PERMISSION !!! Cheers. -
EATING HARE MEAT ???
chartpolski replied to nitestalker 28's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
Some of the best game available, if cooked correctly ! Cheers. -
If you already have dogs living outside, then you'll know all a dog needs is a dry, draught free kennel, with some decent bedding. A Whippet should be no different to your other dogs if that is provided. Cheers.

Never actualy heard of any dogs KILING a wild boar; they usualy hold it or bail it until the hunter administers the coupe de grace ! Cheers.

Was this an accidental mating, or did he do it on purpose ? Cheers.

Bob, I was racing Non-Peds in the 60's & 70's, and still go along to watch now; but your'e right, and it's not just in Scotland.... to see handicaps here in the North East of England with only 6 to 12 dogs is a shame. In the old days it was a magnificent acheivment to win a R.Ch, there was that many dogs ! But now, it's fair to say some get their R.Ch's on a bye !! I ran at the Rising Sun in The British Open Championship, and there would be well over 100 dogs; running a heat, quarter final , semi final and final to get amongst the winners, but at Cambois Open a few days ago, some classes -

I've got a 1st edition "Badgers at my Window", by Drabble. I would never sell it; it's amongst my collectiion of classic books, along with some of the great hunting, lurcher, whippet and greyhound books ! I also have some great books by the New Zealand bushman, Barry Crump; his "Good Keen Man" is the best hunting book I've ever read. Bob, my little Lurcher bitch, Delta, is a 23", rough coated, six year old, Beddy/Grey X Deer/Grey-Whippet/Grey, and still does times over 150 yards to handicap in at the Whippet track ! She's about 20 yards slower than the scratch dogs, but that's still faster than -
Do they still have the delay in getting to full power ? I wasn't impressed with the one I saw, certainly no better than a normal Blitz. Cheers. was it a 170 you saw again the blits ......... in you post on the last thread it was ....... Yes, it was a 170, and as it cost more than a standard 240, I wasn't impressed. The blitz was as good and didn't have the warm up time. I'm not looking for an argument, simply stating my opinion. When cost/performance comes into it, HID simply isn't worth it for lampimg. Cheers.
