That was actually the time both my children died in my arms, two years apart from particularly nasty cancers and I found I was using arguments on THL as a vehicle for my grief and anger. Luckily I realised and took a break and came back a lot calmer and wiser. Cheers.

“Hoots Aye” ! I’ve never heard that since my parents stopped buying me the “Broons” and the “Oor Wully” annuals for Christmas when I was a bairn ! LOL ! Cheets.

That’s why I said it would be a nightmare end game, a nightmare scenario that I hoped won’t happen, but even the worst, least likely scenarios have to be contemplated and even “war gamed “ just in case it does happen. The covid inquiry has just concluded that the government was woefully Ill prepared for a pandemic that they never planned for. Cheers.

A nightmare end game here in the UK would be civil insurrection, the catalyst being immigration both legal and illegal. Look at what’s happened in England and the Irish Republic in the last few days; rioting in Leeds and the police literally running away; rioting in London with the Bangladeshi community; the burning of a migrant facility in Ireland. The common denominator ? Immigrants. When the indigenous people see, rightly or wrongly, that foreigners, some here illegally, are being treated better than them, resentment builds up to breaking point. Its quite obvious that the

I’m not sure why Scotty had a pop at me ? I’ve always thought we had a cordial relationship on here, I’ve said many time that I respect his opinions without necessarily agreeing with them. Cheers.

Bit harsh, Scotty, and by the way, it’s “dunce”. Cheers.

You are reading it wrong….I quoted the old fellow in parentheses, I took his advice and didn’t use my card in the machine. Cheers.

I went to get some cash from an ATM , and before I could put my card in, an old boy sitting in his car said “don’t do it son, ( SON ? I’m 71 ! LOL !), I put my card in and it kept it and I didn’t get my money !” So I decided I didn’t really need the money there and then. A part of the outage or just a coincidence ? Cheers.

I never bred from my last two bitches because I didn’t want to miss a season of work. I regret it now as they were both worthy of breeding from . Cheers.

I was an apprentice at a company called British Engines, I had every tool available in the machine shops It was a great company for teaching apprentices, we had basic operational knowledge of every tool and machine, boring bars, lathes, grinders, millers, Welders, etc. We did metal spraying. This was before cnc machines and setting up a crankshaft in a lathe was a bit of an art. Obviously reading micrometers, vernier gauges, etc was second nature to us. We went out to haulage companies to re-bore or change liners in situ on truck engines, went to shipyards to do on board ship work an

Lurchers at the Whippet Racing .
chartpolski replied to chartpolski's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I won’t agree or disagree. I started the thread because Max wanted to run his lurcher bitch at my local whippet club and , I think, get my opinion on how it ran. It had nothing to do with what was better on a hare; whippet or lurcher. Ive had plenty of both and, in my opinion a coursing bred lurcher will normally beat a whippet. I hasten to add that would be a pedigree whippet. Ive said many, many time, that in MY opinion , the non-ped whippet, which yes, of course, has plenty of greyhound blood, is the fastest dog in the world over the sprint distance of 150 yards. Lurchers at the Whippet Racing .
chartpolski replied to chartpolski's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
There’s no fair law or first turns in racing. The thread is about Max’s lurcher bitch racing, which will hopefully culminate in it winning the lurcher racing at the Scottish Derby this weekend. Best of luck to him as I know he will have the bitch in the best condition . Cheers. -
I remember one time me, my Mackem pal another lad from Newcastle and two from London were all on leave together and met up at my place. I took them for a night out that started at Tuxedo Junction and ended up on Quadrini’s Tuxedo Princess. We were spending money like drunken sailors on shore leave, paradoxically we were on a boat ! We weren’t happy with the meal service and let it be known as we left. Some “heavies”, dressed appropriately in tuxedos, followed us down the gangplank and said Mr Quadrini understands you aren’t happy with the night so would like to speak to you

Do you remember an Italian place on Fawcet Street called Rino’s back around late 70’s early 80’s ? My oppo in Saudi was from Farringdon and when we were on leave at the same time we would have lock ins there. We always drank grappa and always ate gambaroni for some reason ! I often find my mind drifting back to those halcyon days ! LOL ! Cheers.

I’m sure I had that in a dockers pub in Hendon around 1973, or maybe my mind is playing tricks on me…. Cheers.
