Where did you get that fact from mate ? I did a quick Google and we are the third biggest giver of overseas aid , per capita, in the world; But as someone once said, “there are lies, damned lies, and statistics “, so Google could be wrong ! LOL ! Cheers.

Interesting article on tv last night. Evidently we are in a “population trap”. That means we don’t have enough houses, hospitals, schools , etc or nurses, doctors, builders etc for the population as it is so we import people to do the jobs meaning we need even more houses, hospitals , school etc for the increasing population and we are in a vicious circle, chasing our tails and can never catch up. We need to build a new house every two minutes just to cater for the immigrants coming in without making a dent in the backlog shortage. Sort of a “catch 22”. Cheers.

Reminds me of the joke about the Geordie bloke who’s wife said to him as he was leaving the house to go to the match “I’m sure you think more of Newcastle than you do of me ! “ He replied “ I think more of bloody Sunderland than I do of you !”. Cheers.
-
He also won “Player of the Week” at a coaching course here last year; Hopefully the next time he is sitting here he’ll be signing his first contract for Newcastle ! LOL ! Cheers.

My nine year old grandson has just been accepted for a football academy in Saudi Arabia. His first competitive game his team won and he scored the winning goal and was “man of the match”; He insists he will play for Real Madrid one day but I said he should be aiming higher than that and I’d arrange a trial with Newcastle for him ! LOL ! Cheers.

Don’t think so, but I didn’t know him well. Just an aside, a great pal of mine married Jackie Milburns daughter and he said every one of the Milburns and Charltons hated him and completely ignored him when he was in their homes. The marriage didn’t last long ! Cheers

Yes you bloody are ! LOL ! Cheers.

Tom Charlton. He had racing whippets. I raced my dogs against his at places like Hirst Park in Ashington and The Rising Sun at Wallsend late 60’s early 70’s. Cheers.

This lad had a long career in football with Port Vale and then Southampton, last I heard he was coaching or scouting for a Premier club. His dad and two of his uncles were good footballers but because of the beer and tabs never got past Sunday League football. Cheers.

One of my godsons played Premier for Southampton alongside his mate Shearer. His son had the makings of a top footballer but is now one of the top dancers on Strictly Come Dancing ! I don’t know if his dad is happy or not …. Cheers.

My mistake, Scotty, this was the post I was thinking of . Cheers.

You said September , Scotty mate; a change of plan ? Cheers.

f**k me ! LOL ! I don’t know why I keep getting suckered into these conversation ! LOL ! Someone mentioned the stock markets were crashing and all I did was point out the irrefutable fact that the Footsie100 was doing rather well ! Maybe the “working man” isn’t doing as well as he should be, but he’d be a lot worse of with a stock market crash and an economic recession. Cheers.

A strong stock market and expanding economy leads to more and bigger businesses, more job opportunities, more taxes for the treasury to spend on the public services , pensions, benefits, etc for the betterment of the country and its population. A weak stock market and shrinking economy leads to bankruptcies, businesses going bust , redundancies and less taxes for the treasury. An incompetent or corrupt government doesn’t alter those facts. Its how the government chooses to spend the money from a strong economy, but if we have a weak stock market and economy, (the two are inextri

It’s also an indication of the state of the economy. If the Footsie is rising and strong, that means business’s are doing well. Of course the owners and shareholders benefit, but there’s a knock on effect of businesses expanding and employing more people and suppliers also getting more work, exports increasing, etc. so there’s no doubt a strong stock market benefits everyone to a greater or lesser degree. Cheers.

Footsie 100 heading for a yearly high at over 8,400, ( below 7,000 is usually a cause for concern ); GBP had just gone above USD 1:30, Uk isn’t in as bad a state as some think, not great but not heading for disaster, but there’s time , Labour has only been in for a few weeks ! LOL ! I expect the Footsie and the pound will drop slightly as there will be profit taking, but should come back, even my bloody bank shares have seen a slight rally ! Cheers.

You know me mate, I’m a right conspiracy theorist, don’t want the spring links hacking my details ! LOL ! Cheers.

The dogs I imported from Oz to the UK couldn’t be further from working dogs, they were a chihuahua and a miniature Manchester Terrier belonging to my daughter who lived in Oz but was repatriating to the UK. The dog I imported from Saudi to the UK was a Doberman. She was a replacement from a friend who gifted me a Saluki which died aged 17, and when I retired I brought the Doberman home with me. That’s what it’s all about, opinions, I respect yours and, as I’ve said repeatedly, I agree asylum seekers should do some type of work, but my opinion is it is to complex to PUT them to work as opposed to allowing them to volunteer. Cheers.
-
This is what you asked at the start of our conversation. I gave you some reasons, not as an argument, just to try and answer your question. Now you are telling me they ARE allowed to work ! Make your mind up, mate, I’m going dizzy here ! LOL ! Cheers.
-
Volunteering for unpaid charity work isn’t the same as being put to work and paid, but , hey ho, you’re not going to let it go, so I’ll yield ! LOL ! Cheers.

Now, I’m a great believer in “Godwins Law” in Im loathe to break it; but how long would it take for the lefty immigration lawyer’s to start comparing putting asylum seekers to work with the Nazi’s treatment of the Jews ? No, not to fanciful in todays political climate ! LOL ! It doesn’t matter if they get NHS treatment or not, Work and employment Laws would have to be abandoned or run roughshod over to allow asylum seekers to work….it just won’t happen. Now I know you will want the last word, but it’s honestly just going round in circles; I agree with your premise that they should d

No, how would they be able to claim in-work benefits like Universal Credit, Child Tax Credit, etc if they haven’t had there asylum claim granted ? How would they get workers injury compensation ? Their lawyers would demand every benefit a legal worker recieved. As I said it would be a legal minefield, it’s never going to happen, I’m not arguing against making them work for what they get while waiting for their claim to be assessed, but no Government’s going to open that can of worms, so there’s no point in us going round and round in circles . Cheers.

It would be a legal minefield to allow unregistered aliens, ( asylum seekers), to work, mate. What would happen if they got injured at work ? How long before a lefty lawyer took the UK to the ECHR saying that asylum seekers were basically being used as slave Labour, not getting the same rights and benefits as a legal worker. I would gladly put them to work cleaning graffiti, picking up litter, etc but it’s never going to happen for the reasons I’ve mentioned. Cheers.
