  1. Talk to fast jet pilots, they see it as a subsonic workhorse compared to supersonic attack jets. Its probably the best close air support platform there is. I certainly don’t underrate . Cheers.
  2. For the rest of the world ? An emphatic YES
  3. The A10 is a very underrated aircraft. It has titanium body panels protecting the pilot that can withstand direct hits. The engines are mounted high above the tail so they can be kept running while being “turned around “ during rearming and refuelling quickly, Cheers.
  4. How is it worse ? Saddam invaded Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Saddam wanted to control the entire Middle East oil supply. Saddam wanted to create a Muslim Caliphate stretching from North Africa to South East Asia. Saddam fought a 10 year war against Iran . You said we lost in Iraq and Afghanistan. We didn’t lose in Iraq, Afghan was a complete f**k up as every invasion for the past 200 years has been. Cheers.
  5. I don’t disagree mate, but to say we lost against Iraq is not only wrong, it’s insulting to the men and women who fought and died. Of course these wars have consequences, and as for Afghanistan, how many times have I mentioned “The Great Game” that has been going on there since the 18th century? The British have tried at least twice, the Russians have tried and the Americans have tried and failed ! Why can’t we learn from the failures oh the past and leave the Afghans to themselves ? It’s been seen as an extremely important bulwark between the west and the east, ( British Empire
  6. I’m surprised to hear we lost in Iraq ? I was in the area for both Gulf Wars and, although I may have been a REMF(), I was near enough to see the smoke and hear the explosions from “Shock & Awe” ! I thought the total subjugation of the Iraqi forces , the removal of Saddam and his Ba’athist government and a change of regime, and Iraq no longer threatening and invading its neighbours would constitute a win ? ”THERE ARE NO AMERICANS IN BAGDAD…..WE ARE WINNING” But evidently I’m mistaken Cheers.
  7. Seven specialised low altitude C130’s just took off from UK. My guess is insertion of special forces forward observers and forward air controllers in the Strait of Hormuz to pinpoint the moorings of the Iranian small fast craft. Just my opinion , of course, but it looks like the two tankers and one bulk carrier were hit by these type of craft. Cheers.
  8. I think the Falkland war confirms my point; we went in quickly and with clear objectives. When the Belgrano was approaching the Exclusion Zone, Thatcher didn’t consult International Law or Human Rights Lawyers, she acted decisively and sunk it …….Then told us to REJOICE, and we did. It was over quickly and with relatively little casualties and a clear win Cheers.
  9. The Korean and Viet Nam wars set the American public against protracted foreign wars. As the costs, both financially and in casualties , and the lies mounted , the public turned against the wars. Now, in the days of 24 hour rolling independent news, the public are even more informed and wars have to be won quickly, like the Gulf wars were, “shock & awe” and over before the body bags start coming home. Once a war starts to hit the public financially and emotionally, sentiment soon turns against the government. Cheers.
  10. I should have made it clearer that I was referring to a less than salubrious area of a less than salubrious town, Sunderland. I refuse to call it a City, as at the time it had neither of the pre-requisites of a cathedral or university and it was only granted the status of “City” after many years of the inhabitants weeping , wailing and teeth gnashing at the perceived , but unwarranted, injustice of their magnificent neighbour, Newcastle , being so superior Cheers. (but my best pal of 50 years is a Mackem ).
  11. I’m joking, as a Geordie , about Hendon, Sunderland, mate Cheers.
  12. Mogadishu is a step up from Hendon Cheers.
  13. Do you not read or understand what I post ? Ive said more than once that some terrorist activity is exported from Saudi Arabia, probably financed by some princes, but to blame ALL terrorism on Saudi and absolve Iran is irrational? And you haven’t explained about the seven Iranian terrorists recently jailed in the UK . As for sufi’ism and wahabi’ism they are just branches of Islam and I doubt very much that a Sufi would describe himself as a wahabi, but then again, the intricacies of Islam isn’t my specialist subject. Cheers.
  14. Can you give me any proof Choudry was based in Saudi ? He has supported every extremist group and was jailed in Lebanon. He supports ISIS andAl Qaeda but I can’t find any mention of him ever being in Saudi. He’s a home grown religious nut. As I said, there has been terrorism exported from Saudi but to blame only the Saudis is simplistic. How do you explain the seven Iranian and Iranian backed terrorists that have recently been jailed for planning outrages in Britain ? Those two who murdered Rigby were morons who couldn’t point to Saudi on a map, educationally sun-normal, cannon
  15. Stop it, please stop it Those two who murdered Lee Rigby wouldn’t know the difference between an Arab Wahabi and a Japanese Wasabi Cheers.
  16. Of course there’s been terrorism exported FROM Saudi, and possibly by some Saudi princes , but to blame them for everything and absolve the Iranians is nonsense. Another little aside, My daughter went to school with and grew up with Prince Turki bin Faisal, a grandson of King Faisal, he flew her and my missus to stay in his palace when she was diagnosed with terminal cancer to get treatment and second opinions. I spoke to him most days and he told me that he had been under investigation by MI 6 as he had bought 10,000 rifles and 1,000,000 rounds of ammunition from America and shipped
  17. The Saudis didn’t fund Osama Bin Laden , he had his own fortune, the bin Laden are one of the richest families in the world. His family and the Saudis cut him off when he went rogue. Both my kids went to the same school as the Bin Laden kids . I don’t know if he was a Whahabi, but I know he had a hatred of American influence in Saudi. How can you possibly say I’m miles off when Iran sponsors Hezbollah, Hamas, the Houthi , etc ? My views are gained by experience, that doesn’t mean I’m allways right, but I’d say I’ve got a better insight than average. Cheers.
  18. The biggest exporter/supporter of terrorism in the Middle East is Iran, and they are predominantly Shi’ite. Saudi has about 10% Shi’ite, mainly in the Eastern Province. Whahabi’ism is an ultra orthodox branch of Islam who were used by Ibn Saud to take over most of the Arabian peninsula and create Saudi Arabia. The Whahabi’s then turned against the Saudi Royal Family, there views are not the views of Saudi, probably not since King Faisal and certainly not now with the Crown Prince . Comparing Sunni and Shi’ite Islam is like comparing Catholic and Protestant Christianity, or Has
  19. The pope’s representative at the Albigensian crusade said “kill them all, the Lord will know his own”. Harsh , but fair Cheers.
  20. This might interest you ,Wilf; The old lad in the middle is Des Phillips, I worked with him in the Middle East when I was only 24. He was one of the youngest Fight Sergeants in the British air force and was with 617 Squadron , The Dambusters. He didn’t fly on that sortie but did on the sortie that sunk the German Battleship Tirpitz. He got a medal for that and one for getting his Lancaster home with one engine out and damaged landing gear . Now he had some REALLY good stories Cheers.
  21. I’ve told this one before. I was working in the power house of the Saudi Air Defence Centre during the Saudi Yemen war and armed guards were stationed with us. I said to one of the Saudi Officers “ are they here to protect us?” ; he said “ no , they are here to shoot you if you turn of the radar “ !!!! Cheers.
  22. I heard a tale that was supposed to be true where a Saudi jumped out of a high rise window and landed on a car and died, the owner of the car was held responsible! Now this is one a true story as I was involved. We lived in a block of flats and wired them all up to get videos from one lad who had a vcr, which were banned in Saudi back then. He would put blue movies on for us . Anyway, he didn’t turn up for work one day and when we broke into his flat he was sitting in front of the tv dead ! We couldn't have the police come as they would search all the flats and find the booze, vid
  23. When I first went out there, I had an induction at Lockheed Aircraft, who basically ran the Saudi Airforce back then. One of the first things they told us was if we saw an RTA, DO NOT STOP TO HELP, as the last person to touch a dying man is held responsible !! A mate of mine was driving down a street and a Saudi ran into the back of him, the police said HE was responsible as if he hadn’t been in the country the Saudi couldn’t have ran into him ! A few days later a Saudi police car came shooting out of a side street, ON ITS ROOF , and t/boned his car, again he was held responsible.
  24. No , the base is not lost ! When thousands of missiles are being launched some will obviously get through . I may be wrong but I thought THAAD were mobile installations. Losing one doesn’t mean the base is lost . You said the US had lost all its bases, it hasn’t, it hasn’t lost one base. The Cyprus base was struck, have we lost that base ? Of course not. Just like we haven’t lost the Bahrain base. Cheers.
  25. Mate , I honestly tried not to reply to him , but I’ve actually got skin in the game , as the yanks would say. I’ve also got many years of experience not only in the area but in the military bases. when someone says something so blatantly untrue I just can’t stop myself. Ive got more to worry about than trying to disprove nonsense, I should really know better Cheers.
