It’s a headache tablet I need after a discussion with my young, former , protege, not a drink Fine wines and whiskey are to be enjoyed, not used as a barrier against ignorance Cheers.
-
Perhaps I should have said “ the media suite”, ( actually he back bedroom). I feel that at 73 and still have all my teeth and most of my faculties, I haven’t reached the late, lamented Shane’s sad state. Cheers.
-
Covering all bases, ehh ? Clever Cheers.

I’m in bed which a rather fine glass of American sippin’ whiskey watching the breaking news. My missus is downstairs watching the crime channel and seems unperturbed that Armageddon may be on the horizon A mindset possibly influenced by being married to me for almost 50 years ! Cheers.

Being of a similar vintage, I can sympathise with your views on age Although I’m a stoic and a fatalist, I’m still a glass half full mindset; I hope that’s not a contradiction. I was talking to friends today about escalation, my cousin and his wife just got out of Cyprus and gave me a first hand update on what was happening there, not much apparently and they live 4 mile from Akrotiri and Greek war planes are patrolling the skies. The general consensus was that Russia is bogged down in a WW1 type war of attrition and Chinas economic growth is forecast to fall so the last thing they n

Seven Iranians were arrested in two separate raids last year, Theres probably more incidents we don’t hear about. Cheers.
-
Sorry, I didn’t mean to infer you were doubting me Im just watching all the breaking news. Some of it will be true , some not so true. Cheers.

Nothing false about the one in Michigan, Temple Isreal Synagogue complex. Cheers.

“Situation evolving at a synagogue in Norway”, breaking news. Cheers.

Synagogue. And evidently another attack ongoing . Cheers.

Inside that 747 is like a warehouse; That’s me standing at the tail door, And that’s just the main deck, there’s also a lower cargo deck and an upper deck fitted with kitchen facilities and sleeping quarters for when it’s double crewed on long haul flights. Cheers.

You couldn’t get an opening that size in the side of a fuselage. It can handle the biggest and longest pallets and containers . Also ease and speed of loading. Cheers.

I’ve never worked on one. It’s a very specialised and dangerous job. I’ve walked around them as I have a lot of aircraft that were based or passing through where I happened to be. I spent a lot of time working with and socialising with many American pilots, both military and civilian, I’ve also had Saudi, Kuwaiti and UAE military pilots staying at my house here in the UK when they’ve been on training courses. Im checked out,(or was, I haven’t done any recurrent training for many years), on a few types of aircraft, including these two, 747F and Md11F; I don’

Talk to fast jet pilots, they see it as a subsonic workhorse compared to supersonic attack jets. Its probably the best close air support platform there is. I certainly don’t underrate . Cheers.
-
For the rest of the world ? An emphatic YES

The A10 is a very underrated aircraft. It has titanium body panels protecting the pilot that can withstand direct hits. The engines are mounted high above the tail so they can be kept running while being “turned around “ during rearming and refuelling quickly, Cheers.

How is it worse ? Saddam invaded Kuwait and Saudi Arabia. Saddam wanted to control the entire Middle East oil supply. Saddam wanted to create a Muslim Caliphate stretching from North Africa to South East Asia. Saddam fought a 10 year war against Iran . You said we lost in Iraq and Afghanistan. We didn’t lose in Iraq, Afghan was a complete f**k up as every invasion for the past 200 years has been. Cheers.
-
I don’t disagree mate, but to say we lost against Iraq is not only wrong, it’s insulting to the men and women who fought and died. Of course these wars have consequences, and as for Afghanistan, how many times have I mentioned “The Great Game” that has been going on there since the 18th century? The British have tried at least twice, the Russians have tried and the Americans have tried and failed ! Why can’t we learn from the failures oh the past and leave the Afghans to themselves ? It’s been seen as an extremely important bulwark between the west and the east, ( British Empire

I’m surprised to hear we lost in Iraq ? I was in the area for both Gulf Wars and, although I may have been a REMF(), I was near enough to see the smoke and hear the explosions from “Shock & Awe” ! I thought the total subjugation of the Iraqi forces , the removal of Saddam and his Ba’athist government and a change of regime, and Iraq no longer threatening and invading its neighbours would constitute a win ? ”THERE ARE NO AMERICANS IN BAGDAD…..WE ARE WINNING” But evidently I’m mistaken Cheers.

Seven specialised low altitude C130’s just took off from UK. My guess is insertion of special forces forward observers and forward air controllers in the Strait of Hormuz to pinpoint the moorings of the Iranian small fast craft. Just my opinion , of course, but it looks like the two tankers and one bulk carrier were hit by these type of craft. Cheers.

I think the Falkland war confirms my point; we went in quickly and with clear objectives. When the Belgrano was approaching the Exclusion Zone, Thatcher didn’t consult International Law or Human Rights Lawyers, she acted decisively and sunk it …….Then told us to REJOICE, and we did. It was over quickly and with relatively little casualties and a clear win Cheers.

The Korean and Viet Nam wars set the American public against protracted foreign wars. As the costs, both financially and in casualties , and the lies mounted , the public turned against the wars. Now, in the days of 24 hour rolling independent news, the public are even more informed and wars have to be won quickly, like the Gulf wars were, “shock & awe” and over before the body bags start coming home. Once a war starts to hit the public financially and emotionally, sentiment soon turns against the government. Cheers.

I should have made it clearer that I was referring to a less than salubrious area of a less than salubrious town, Sunderland. I refuse to call it a City, as at the time it had neither of the pre-requisites of a cathedral or university and it was only granted the status of “City” after many years of the inhabitants weeping , wailing and teeth gnashing at the perceived , but unwarranted, injustice of their magnificent neighbour, Newcastle , being so superior Cheers. (but my best pal of 50 years is a Mackem ).
-
I’m joking, as a Geordie , about Hendon, Sunderland, mate Cheers.
-
Mogadishu is a step up from Hendon Cheers.
