Thanks for the help, I'll try them. Putting food under the trap makes sense. -

I think I have put too much food down, especially outside the box to entice them in. FULL of slugs. Bugger. -

Never heard of spicy or chocolate for rats Mitre. I have been using Liquorice Allsorts, Bakers dog chews and sunflower seeds. I'll have to get more inventive. Thanks -

Cheers Gilbey. I can sorta see the hole either end so they can see through. I only started with a small hole so as to keep birds out. The mesh makes sense. I'll have a look. Thanks -

Thanks Bearinator. The box has been there for a couple of weeks now so plenty of time I think for them to get used to it. I'll drill the hole out a bit and see what happens. Thanks -
Could anyone please give me a size for the entrance of a box for a rat trap. I have made one with several Victor traps in runs as I have seen one on here previously. I cannot find the original thread to check up. The seed is being eaten from around the box but, as yet, nothing has gone in to move or eat any of the various seeds or pastes. We have cats and a lot of birds in the garden and I do not want to let any in accidently. The hole at present is approx 3/4 of an inch. Would it be safe making it a bit larger?

Sambo's grave up on Sunderland point near Lancaster left a mark on me for some reason. It's the site of a young slave who died there in the early 1700s.

My apologies Qbgrey, I had stopped checking the thread and missed your help. We are having the cracks stitched soon and check what happens timewise to see if there is a bigger problem. Cheers everyone

I've tried a plastic heron with no joy tomburras. We now have 10" square metal mesh sheets. Still able to see the fish/plants but a bit more secure. Foxdropper, what do you mean by covered? Do you reckon a piece of wood totally covering most of the pond would be better? Cheers

Thank you and RIP ??

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions and help. Going to have to have a think what to do. We do have some cracks like si's picture. But, there look like there are also angled cracks. I've no experience of this and will have to get more checks. Thanks all

No damp anywhere Welsh_red. A few cracks in the rear wall and a tie that was taken out by a prospective builder was rusty. But, it is a 60 year old house.

Just asking if anyone has knowledge of wall ties as we are in need of having them replaced. It's a 1960s end terrace and I have been recommended to have them replaced after a couple of surveys. I was getting around to having it sorted but the bloke doing it took early retirement. Are there any particular ties that should be used over any that shouldn't? I feel it's a big job where I could easily be talked into having what I 'need'. Any companies in North Manchester anyone could recommend? Cheers

That looks great, enjoy it.

Brilliant. Thanks Dido.1 4 rats off one biscuit in one of the traps.
-
Thanks for replying Dido.1 I'll try the biscuits and sweets. I think they are fed up with the apple.
-
You're doing a good job there Dido. Any chance of asking what you have on the Black Cats please?

Caught this sparrow hawk this evening on the conifer. Looked to be resting, perhaps after a meal.

My Grandad was a herbalist and had loads of dandelions in the garden from memory. My Dad regularly picked up, chewed the stalk then spat it out but swallowed the juice. He said it was good for the kidneys. Years later he donated a kidney to me and it's still going strong after many years ?.

First one in the new mark4/ tunnel..
Dappled replied to steg's topic in Snaring, Trapping & Pest Control
Thanks Steg. I've had the ratcatcher round this morning and he has placed plenty of boxes for them. ? My shed is 35+ years old and is on plies of flags for air circulation. Loads of room for critters!! Your trap in the wooden tunnel is very clever. Cheers -

Hi Steg. That looks the dogs. Can I ask if the stones you have on the floor manage to keep the rats out of your shed? I've read what they seem to be able to chew through but is it just hard work through stones/pebbles for them? Cheers
