For the small mountain grouse and Hazelgrouse i use cheap US5-6 30-32g cartridges and for the bigger and dense forest Capercaillie, blackgrouse and roedeer I use 34-36g US3-4 quality stuff.

I might have to buy steel or Tungsten shots after a new EU regulation on not using lead over wetlands the problem are EU have different definition of wetlands than Sweden so most parts of Sweden suddenly might become wetlands. The new regulation might make the hunter to prove he has not hunted in wetland not the court as normal.

It was not so many good systems then sako beguinn to make their own tapering dove tail its one of the better. Its supposed to tight it self harder with the recoil. SAKO started as a civilian defense organisation during the finnish civilian war.

Out door gun market in Afghanistan
KimE replied to Bangersanmash's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Russian gun laws are a bit different they can buy a shotgun easy but it takes 5 years to get a rifle. Russian gun makers go around the law and make "smoothbore" weapons with paradox rifling, so a military looking shotgun are no problem. -
The biggest a .357mag are allowed for in Sweden are Roedeer and beaver, the same for 30-30.

Love my Anschutz 22wmr its about 50y old works fine the used ones are cheap now.

In Sweden some Wildcats are made for bird in the top of the trees hunting, as 6,5caper(6,5-222r), 22k hornet( the bigger class3 cartridge legal for hunting on public land in the mountains. Some WC are made for Moose as 6,5-06 , .338-06, 458 american (2.5’’ magnum case). 223rem has not been so popular in Sweden as it has to slow twist for heavy bullets now it may change with 1/7 -1/8 barrels.

Thinking of countries with short lived governments and bad economy we used to think of Italy.

Then I got my first rifles the local Police had the licences localy stored and the applications too were local, for my second gun the lady appologized because she couldn`t send it before the weekend so it took more than one week. Now the licences are central stored you are lucky if you can have your licence in 5 weeks it can take months and the information may be shared with every police autority in every country.

New hunter, what caliber rifle?
KimE replied to Achilles-13's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I like my Bergara its plenty of rifle for that kind of money, in Swedenare 300blk only legal for up and including roedeer but young pigs from a high seat wouldn`t be a problem. The cartridge can be both more or less than a 223r depending on the bullet 125gr cast bullet for vermin, 110gr hollow point for beaver, 115-125gr fmj for birds, 125 cup and core for roedeer. I think of the ba13 mainly as a short to medium range rifle up to 200+m so a flat shooting cartridge like a .243win are better in a bolt action who has more practical precission. As a survival/smallgame gun i would -
Ranging with classic reticles
KimE replied to Achilles-13's topic in Shooting Equipment & Accessories
Find a roedeer or wildboar target in full size look how big it is at 100, 200m compared to different parts of your reticle. -
Looks a bit slow Norma lists 3200 with 140s and MRP powder what they developed for Weatherbys factory loads (Maybee a short barrel?). Find a light monometal bullet it should take down the recoil. Rangefinders, BDC scopes, Ballistic kalcylators have made this kind of bean field rifles less popular.

Ranging with classic reticles

I hold the cross on the neck of a sitting bird if it longer range ~10cm-20cm high. You have to know the range and the size of your game animal. -
What is TM shot?

Nice rig. Have you tryed to cast some bullets for it like you did in .223?

We hunt wildboar with bailing dogs here they just bark then the pig are standing close. The same dogs are used for moose and bear too.

New hunter, what caliber rifle?
KimE replied to Achilles-13's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
I have used my .308w for blackgrouse, capercallie, fox, beaver, roe deer, sika, moufflon, fallow deer, wildboar and moose its a great choice for generalist rifle. My loads for it now are 110gr Vmax beaver, 123gr FMJ for birds, 165gr accubond roe-bear ,180gr Norma Oryx roe-bear. A 6,5*55/6,5cred would now be a great choice as the majority of my hunting are small game. -
New hunter, what caliber rifle?
KimE replied to Achilles-13's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
150gr cup and core are a little bit light (low SD) in .308w for the biggest Swedish game 150gr copper are ok. For Achilles intended use on young pigs even 120-130s coppers should work. -
New hunter, what caliber rifle?
KimE replied to Achilles-13's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
"Do you hunt moose with dogs or more of a approach hunt ,…? I love how you have a minimum weight for big game but can hunt roe buck with buckshot… we are not the only ones with funny rules I guess " We hunt moose with baying dogs. The minimum bullet weight for roe are 3,2g, No buckshot are not allowed for roe here, only smallgame shots US no. 1-3 are used. 30-30win are on the limit for biggame here you must cronograf your load to see which side it is. -
New hunter, what caliber rifle?
KimE replied to Achilles-13's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
"Recoil relax and enjoy" (US col. Elmer Kieth) A 150gr bullet in 790m/s has the same recoil as a 155gr bullet in 785m/s. The .308w can be downloaded to similar recoil as the 6,5*55/6,5cred. The 15% difference in recoil between 6,5 and .308w are barely felt, more important are do your closest store have ammunition for both? Do you find a rifle you like in that caliber? Does the stock fit you? A traditional lever action in 3030 with an old style of stock has more felt recoil than a modern .308w. -
New hunter, what caliber rifle?
KimE replied to Achilles-13's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
It was a drive for banning lead in rifle bullets a few years back its calm now but they might try it again. If lead are banned the whole caliber classification system must be remade 6,5 , 222r, 22wmr would have to be classed down with copper/tin/tombak. No 22lr for hunting anymore?
