  1. Anyone can have whatever breed of dog they want and use it for whatever they want. There’s no contract or set of rules you need to sign up to when you get your first running dog.
  2. Without a doubt, I couldn’t keep a dog like that it would sicken me every time I looked at its heartless face ?
  3. Don’t say things like that, the collie lurcher community will be all over you ? On a serious note couldn’t agree more I’ve seen videos of dogs stopping dead & watching stuff run away and these dogs get bred from, shocking
  4. I couldn’t keep a dog that picks and chooses its runs no way, or pisses about at cover. Any cross of lurcher when they pull up it’s lack of heart but when a collie cross does it then it’s too clever ?
  5. Got these 4 here. Would rather sell together. £60 plus postage if anyone’s interested
  6. We’ve all got different opinions but I wouldn’t have collie blood near my dogs for that reason, they’re prone to scatty traits like picking their runs & easing off cover. Owners say it’s because they’re clever but it’s not for me.
  7. Load of shit people love the games f****d line gives them an excuse not to go out
  8. That’s what I do, out at 5am when there’s nobody about seems to work wonders with no distractions. That’s all it will be just trying it on to see what he can get away with, I wouldn’t keep him on a lead for weeks on end mind you, cause when you eventually let him off he’ll be hyper active and less responsive to training. Just find something he really likes and go back to basics he’ll be sound
  9. I’m the same, like those stupid coursing dvds. Telling the world exactly where they are. I always thought you kept your good spots to yourself.
  10. Nothing to do with his breed, boredom, lack of exercise etc. He’s just a young male dog they all go through that, some less than others but they all have their funny stage. I’ve got a young dog 13 months old and had similar thing with him few weeks ago. Very obedient since the day I got him then out of the blue just starts f***ing off hunting up, ignoring me, running round me in circles etc, basically everything you described apart from running away home. I started taking him out first light somewhere theres no game, or other dogs to distract him, put GPS on him just Incase and went back to ba
  11. Think people need to remember if a man does his running from a motor his idea of a deer dog will be very different to someone that does it on foot
  12. A lot of people very kennel blind. Get huge variety’s in all crosses.
  13. I’d say one of the main reasons for areas getting hot is people putting the names of places on open forums like this for thousands to see.
  14. Top class gear & the best service of any collar/lead manufacturer by far.
  15. Nice pup looks in fine condition
  16. Can’t think of anything worse than creeping about in the pitch black all night looking through a thermal.
  17. Wouldn’t dream of paying thousands of pounds so I don’t have to use a lamp till the last minute tbh, if I was that paranoid shining a lamp about I’d just stay at home.
  18. Just mix rice or other carbs in with the meat so they can’t be picky, they can either eat all of it or none of it they’ll soon sort themselves out

  20. When they’re running mine get porridge oats with some lamlac for breakfast. Then at night they get wholemeal bread, weak gravy, fatty beef, green tripe & sardines added 3 times a week. During the summer I just cut out breakfast.
  21. Always liked the look of the deerhound crosses. Reckon crossing the right one with a good saluki based lurcher you could get something really handy
  22. You’ve replied to the wrong person there
  23. Not meant to be about you, it’s a common theme on this site what I said, lads that dont have standards calling down people that do, saying they must be shit dog men etc. There’s a big difference between lads pet homing a failure & selling one on dragon driving mind you.
  24. Cracking site isn’t it, men that basically keep pets that catch the odd bit here and there telling lads that if a dogs not made the grade it’s got to be their fault.
  25. I agree about getting pups & putting the time & effort in, but on the other hand, a lot of people that “always have a good dog” are just liars. You can get a pup bred off good parents, do everything right from day 1 and it still ends up no good, a lot comes down to luck. If you keep a high standard and don’t make excuses then it doesn’t matter how good a dog man you are you’ll have a few failures that don’t make the grade that’s just a fact of life. What you consider a good dog might be very average/poor to someone else. It depends how much you expect from them.
