Pure beeds where would you be without them ?
Shadow100 replied to juckler123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
No mate I’ve never owned a pure saluki, I’ve seen a few bred out of nero back to lurchers but never any pures off him. Saluki blood for me is essential for my lurchers but a pure definitely wouldn’t suit what I do. I think it’s good that some men are still running them though, its a shame to see any working pure breed die out -

None of the dogs I’ve seen putting large amounts of game away have been pure breds, we cross for a reason. The greyhound (or whippet for smaller stuff) are essential we couldn’t do without them in the mix, but adding stuff to them makes a much more versatile animal that can handle a greater workload. I wouldn’t have a dog without saluki in but it’s a fine line & I wouldn’t want too much. Too much of any pure breed will be detrimental in my opinion it’s finding the right mix that results in a good dog. -
I don’t know anything about minshaw dogs or the lads that bred them, maybe they were peddlers maybe they went, but if the challenge was put out there and you didn’t take the man up on it you can’t sit on a computer years down the line and slag him off, or dogs thats long dead.

It’s not as black and white as people make out. The lads that are in the wrong are the ones that use Subaru’s/4x4s to tip the odds in the dogs favour, cutting stuff off from woods, blocking their escape route, all that sort of stuff. Lads that go out and steal from farms need to f**k off as well. If you’re out lamping on big land there’s sometimes no option but to drive because if you went on foot everything would run straight out the beam. As long as you’re just following on behind and not interfering with the run. Driving land on small fields or in the daytime is just laziness though, n

Coursing groupies get all stressed out when you mention lies & money.
-
No bitterness here mate I wish everyone that puts time in to their dogs nothing but success.
-
Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see
-
I’d use a good home bred dog over any of these hyped up money makers.
-
Few cracking lads in to coursing real genuine types, it’s the liars I can’t make sense of, why pretend you’re all over the place killing hares left right and centre when really you’re sat at home, or having the odd mooch local, the mind boggles it really does
-
Coursing worlds just rammed full of liars so you never know what’s true and what isn’t. Get the ones that pretend they’re flat out when they barely leave their garden. Then the ones that do go regular but just lie about how good their dog is anyway
-
I was talking about dogs that are up for open stud, yours isn’t up for stud is it? so how is it relevant?
-
If a lurcher is up for stud with a £500-1000 price tag, do you think there’s any reason for that other than to line the owners pockets?
-
Just all about money mate. When the owners picked them out the litter at 8 weeks they’d already decided they’d be £500 a lining in 18 months time whether they were any good or not.
-
Safe to assume with it being a coursing dog at open stud it’s been talked up and lied about since it was 18 months old.

Good bones from slaughterhouses as well -
100% agree if you’re not lucky enough to have permission to run your dogs then you can’t have something that fucks off when it feels like it.
-
Tells you everything you need to know about the owners, same as flat feet & long nails paints a picture straight away

Fresh this morning -
Not read any of his books are the just rabbiting or other things as well? I liked running dog addiction & scooby. Without a doubt the best one for me is dogs & deer, good book and the pictures are top class.
-
Passion for coursing books are ok, a few exaggerations but not a bad read. That match dog one is pure shit don’t waste your money on it brand new
-
Books sold now

Just an impossible thing to get right, unless you know the lad well that’s taking the pup they can end up anywhere. Unbelievable how convincing an act people can put on when they want something
-
If I had a good bitch I’d want 2 litters off her to different dogs, see what she throws and good opportunity for tight breeding down the line
-
Can’t knock that to be fair, just be covering rearing costs at that nobody’s making a profit selling pups for £100
-
I’m lost here is the lad selling the pups for big money or something?
