Been going on for ages, stud fees, pups, comps, dvds. All of a sudden someone charges big money for a beddy cross and moneys ruining dogs
-
I got a pup off him & it turned out parents weren’t what they were meant to be, dog wasn’t awful to be fair just didn’t suit what I was after, mate down south had it to mess about with and was quite happy with it. I’ve seen a few good coursing bred dogs but in general I don’t think much to them for hard work, ones that can take stick are few and far between. This opinion doesn’t suit Two Crows though with him being a coursing dog groupie/promoter, as they’ve all got their head up each others arses and can’t admit their dogs have any faults. I reckon he’s an old bullshitter that d

I had a pup off someone years ago and it didn’t work out, believe it or not I don’t lose sleep over that. Just in response to your earlier post, maybe if some of us to live to 200 we can hope to be as brilliant and knowledgeable as you. You thick headed, kennel blind old fool.

I just judge dogs by how they run not how they’re bred
-
Get what you’re saying, but if most people have only seen average, then surely going off that theory most men that keep lines only have average lines (which I’d agree with). What you get is people saying “line bred” as if it’s a stamp of quality, and “scatterbred” as if it’s a lesser dog that could never live up to the great line bred animals we see on some of these forums. End of the day the only thing a lurcher should be judged on is how much game it’s put away single handed, not what it’s great great grandmother did 20 years ago.
-
Lurcher pups have been fetching £1000+ for years why are people acting as if this is something new? Greedy bullshitters with massive egos are a huge part of certain types of running dogs and have been for ages.
-
Yeah the best deer dogs & hare coursing dogs I’ve seen been out of unrelated parents as well mind you, I don’t get too caught up in breeding myself you can definitely over think it, a good dogs a good dog, doesn’t matter how it’s bred, what it looks like etc. You’d think a dogs parents/grandparents could run & kill for it the way some people go on.

A lot of truth in that post to be fair
-
To be fair I think people play down bitza lurchers as if to say “yeah they’re ok for a bit of mooching, pot filling etc”. Seen some very good ones I’d own in a heartbeat & some line bred I wouldn’t give a fiver for. All about the individual dog even the breeding experts can’t predict what’s coming out when the bitch gets lined
-
100% right poor/untested dogs getting bred because their gt grandmother was a good one is madness to me but lots do it. I’d imagine the lads that do that probably didn’t do too much with the gt grandmother either if they’re more concerned with pedigrees than grafting talent but that’s another story
-
That’s true but a lot of lads that keep a ‘line’ or their own stuff whatever you want to call it, wouldn’t let the pups go to strangers so men that don’t breed couldn’t get them anyway, there’s plenty of lads willing to breed and sell to strangers so there’ll always be enough lurchers to go around. Think I missed the point I was trying to make what I mean is I would rather breed scatterbred best to best, than keep a tight line & breed a poor/untested dog just because of its pedigree
-
To be fair thought how many lines keep producing generation after generation, you’ll get a man starting with a good dog, and it’ll produce very average, but he’ll breed off that one anyway because it’s out of his good old dog, and so on. Then eventually he gets something else worth talking about maybe 4 generations down and they shout the lines producing, is it really though or is it just luck that they’ve got 1 decent dog out of the last 4 litters they’ve bred. Fair enough they’ll throw to type, colour, stamp etc after a while but if you’re testing them hard you’ll get wastage same as yo

Feed once or twice a day when working?
Shadow100 replied to whitefeet4190's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
With some saluki based lurchers I’ve found if you feed a breakfast they’ll just pick at their main meal, not all of them but some of them do so best to feed them ones once a day -
If I bred a litter of pups I’d rather see one go to an old man to lie in front of a fire than some idiot that’ll feed it shit food, run it on hard ground, shout about how amazing it is then sell it. As long as someone looks after their dogs and doesn’t tell lies they can go out once a year for all I care
-
At least she was honest, I once had a guy at a show tell me his 3 year old bitch was direct out of 2 dogs that’s been dead 20 years ?
-
I’d rather take a punt on one of those than some of the shite I’ve seen advertised supposed to be out of top working stock ?
-
Grasses are bad enough, but dog men that stick other dog lads in are the lowest of the low. Type that make their tongue sore licking keepers arses that much, to get a few shitty little fields to work their dogs on. Hopefully the next time he goes out to try & get a reg plate the lads drive their jeep straight over the top of him.

People will never agree on feeding, but I think my dogs look best when fed meat, fish, bones & fat. I get whole tripes from the slaughterhouse and the rest of their diet consists of what they catch & whatever’s reduced in morrisons, ie rabbit, hare, venison, chicken thighs, lamb breast, hearts, liver, salmon etc. I just can’t get my head around a little brown nugget being better for a dog than proper meat.

Don’t know why people are giving you the time of day, that statement shows you for the vermin you are.

If it’s only a little nick probably be fine, if you’re near the beach I’d lead walk him in the salt water every day works wonders for the healing.
-
If it’s a bad one on the webbing I’d get it to the vets ASAP and get it stitched, it can take ages to heal and can sometimes open back up if it’s not healed right.

Feed once or twice a day when working?
Shadow100 replied to whitefeet4190's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
From a work point of view I think if they’ve had a hard full day shift then a good breakfast the next morning helps them recover a bit sharper. -

If the dogs has a hard shift I think a breakfast the next mornings a good thing, even just mentally if they enjoy it and it makes them a bit happier it’s worth doing for that reason alone. -
If I was you I’d just get out and about by yourself and see what happens, unfortunately most decent dog lads keep quite private these days so they’re unlikely to invite a stranger off the internet to go out with them. You’ll find with these forums and Facebook that 90% of the people you go out with you’ll wish you’d just went on your own anyway. That being said you might get lucky and meet some decent people, you can only try. One thing to remember meeting people in this game. Believe none of what you hear and only half of what you see.
