    if your dog is fit not a staff even if if fit, been round staffs +pits back to 60s, you might get the odd daft rabbit with a staff, but some pits are very racey and not to heavy+agile, more chance with one of them ray what breed of staff and pit did you see back in the sixtees?,i can honestly say the dog at lees house the father to my lurcher a pure staff has caught rabbit in the lamp and not just one,ask the breeder to him you know who he is.the type of staff were on is more akin to a pit not the short stiff show type but a staff non the less of wich i would class as close to the bes

    just to add a good fox dog has to get bitten for the reason he will strike on his quarry from any were and not choose his strike,the dog thats hardly bitten and chooses his strike looses more fox than enough.

    to be honest the best dogs ive had and currently own were gifted to me by real genuine dog men who know alot instead of talking alot,ive seen and ownd some good hancock lurchers but have been disheartend by there longitivity in the field,i dont feel i would ever go back their.

    ive had both and will say one stud out well from the rest ,abitch i had twenty year ago beardie collie grey,had them since and all were average as were the border crosses,the last beardie had decent wind and not brilliant but good,seen here run older dogs out at a young age,some from this site.

    i think stabba has it right there,same can be said for amb mostly bred to hold they dont like a fighting dog like pits wich would be what you want in a lurcher for stopping fox ect.

    never seen a dogo in the flesh but looking at videos and pics would say too big for here uk,same could be said of good quality amb they face massive boars in america but why use them here to produce lurchers,ive worked with pits staffs and amb but would not use the later even though asked by more than one to produce it.
