hi all carbon steel will darken in colour thats just what it does, the only way to keep most rust off the blade is to keep it oiled. if you only use it once a week or so leave it some where to dry without to much moisture about like a cuboard shelf or something. i use steel cutting tools in my work and even though there oiled and kept in a suitable storage place over the hols with no use rust spots appear. good luck matt

Is the .17HMR more accurate than the .22LR?
matt241075 replied to LordGamebore's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
hi all i shoot a .22lr and to me this is the perfect rabbit calibre.....the .17hmr for me is a lot more accurate... However how often do you need to shoot a rabbit at 100yrds?????? % of the time you are within 50yrds. you will get a few that are needed to be shot at greater distance and thats when the .17hmr comes in i think. 100yrds for the .22 is a tad much for me.. atb matt -

hi Tina yes I think that’s where I’ve gone wrong I wormed around 11am with no food in stomach, didnt even think to be honest as never had problem before.... Glad you like the pup. I and jimmy have had a few outings ferreting/lamping etc however my van has been off the road over crimbo so it’s grounded me over the hols:thumbdown: hopefully back next week... matt -

Huntinglife for hunting lurcher people only?
matt241075 replied to baldockbanks courser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
This site is for ANYONE who has an interest whatever it may be and so it should be.There are sections on clay shooting the new addition Crafts to name a few i dont do any stick making and not a great deal of clay shooting but i stil go in to look as i have a INTEREST. The more people who visit this site who do not hunt but INTERESTED, has to be a BONUS as it could be one more to support the huntinglife... atb matt -

you have cut into a tapeworm cyst,id bin it myself but could be washed out i guess.
-
As opposed to under them? My thinking behind it was that the kennels would be washed out everyday with the hose and the blockwork would get a soaking everyday ABOVE the DPC had it been under the blockwork. I never put any DPC sheeting under the base either as it would obviously be exposed to the elements and hose pipe everyday. Does that make sense? Where would you have put it? if for sure goes on top of the block to stop damp getting to the timber any damp course is ment to be at least 150mm above ground level.. great kennels

Experienced (and ensured) ferreter needed
matt241075 replied to trephilgar's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
hi all having insurance is a must if you are to go and do whatever country pursuit you chose on someone’s land, where I go there is all kinds of livestock and machinery. Accidents do happen so that’s why you need it, even for ferreting. Yes many go without it and hope nothing goes wrong but when it does you will wish you had it. I don’t blame this guy for asking for it and him doing so tells you he`s looking for a responsible ferreter to take on the challenge!!!!! People go on about permission on this site that it’s so hard to get hold off and like gold dust, yet it’s offered on -
Hi all i have just wormed both my dogs with drontal plus as normal.Half an hour later one of the dogs (oscar) was sick.i know sometimes this can happen. My question is do i repeat the course or just leave it as im not sure if the drontal is now out of oscar system???? The other dog (Amber) has been fine. many thanks matt

maybe a member from NZ might be able to cast some light on it. a guy from AUS posted the other day i remember saying he was ferreting not long ago and a brown snake popped out....:blink:lol,no chance of getting my arms down them sets shoulder deep.....
-
Would venomous snakes not be a natural predator for a ferret?????
-
I would say because man has domesticated the ferret so keeps them to himself, new Zealand is quite a vast open space with not a great deal inhabited by man at the moment i believe, in relation to its size. Thats my view anyway

You must of got one of the good pairs. I had mine for 1 seasons digging and they literally disintegrated. Now held together with superglue. Im wearing black islanders at the moment and they are a much better boot. The covering is peeling a wee bit but still 100% waterproof. Meindles would be my second choice. yes ive read some not so good reviews too,but mine have just lasted for ages and get some use. matt FTB

hi mate I’m from the north east, and a friend of mine used to fish loch Lomond for pike with good results but not sure how far it is from you and if you have transport. you are spoilt for chose up there with all them lochs, what I would say is get some local advise on productive areas as this will save you hours of searching at wherever you decide to fish. Below is a link of a site you can go to and ask people who will fish your area and will let you know where to start. Fishing isn’t as political as hunting I find good luck matt Pike Anglers' Club of Great Brit

Hi all Le Chameau Mouflon, I’ve had mine 5 years and not a drop of water through them and still going. however the leather has cracked a bit on the toe crease which I have seen on a few pair, whether that’s down to bad maintenance or just how there go after 5 hard years. I would certainly buy another pair. Matt
