  1. It is depending where you come from, the real Elk looks more like a standard deer whereas the Moose looks like a Moose. ? Regarding Elk, not a chance on gods earth is any dog capable of tackling one, they make Red Deer look tiny. This gives you a good comparison in size.
  2. Good point, I've never been one for dog swapping or knocking em on the head so once I buy a pup it's for life. You have to utilise what it does and what quarry it does best. Horses for courses and ain't that true, if you get an all-rounder then that's a bonus.
  3. I've just seen him now at Cleethorpes beach, much smaller than I imagined. ?
  4. Not defensive just telling it how it is. Folk who lamped afar and walked fields are either after rabbits, in good permission or are lying about using the motor. Using the motor, I think it's pretty clear why lads use the motor when out lamping. Do the math, it ain't rocket science. Not everyone has the luxury of an abundance of game on their doorstep.
  5. The same with Hares last time I used to go out, haven't been out lamping in a good number of years now tbh. Wish I could win the big one and then I'd get back in to it. Just haven't got the time nowadays sadly. I'd love a lurcher again but it would be waste of a dog doing the odd mooch on a local walk out locally.
  6. Jesus I thought we were well travelled, Cornwall? You off your rocker.... ??
  7. Exactly my point, I've only seen dogs lighten has they get older.
  8. No obviously not, the dogs didn't need throwing out. Take it you've never been out lamping afar then, you stick to romantic walks with the dogs. And no that wasn't an everyday occurrence before you get all emotional, it's alright walking the fields for rabbits isn't it.... ?
  9. Not going to take many Elk with a lurcher. ?
  10. There was no throwing needed, and don't listen to silly rumours on here. Needs must when you're after meat. ?
  11. As above, which land or region have you found the most enjoyable sport over the years. For rabbits in numbers it has to be Grassington for me, true it can be like shooting fish in a barrel but you was guaranteed a lot of runs. For fox we always had most success in Lincolnshire, we caught a fair few down near Market Raisen. For the big stuff back in the day it has to be Leicestershire and Cambridgeshire, it came in handy at the time as he bought the meat for his restaurant. Now for hares I've never ran any dogs on the fens but we had plenty of running locally and around
  12. Bill was your town the first to see kelpie crosses along with saluki and bull crosses?
  13. Like the catholic church then. ?
  14. I've never known any dogs get darker as they get older, anyone seen that?
  15. I've seen them before when I was working at Buxton in the lime works, would have loved to see them hunt there.
  16. Unfortunately I don't have any local to me, amazing bird.
  17. Give me a glimpse of a peregrine any day.......
