It’s not that it has to cone from a small gene pool of dog. Researchers who specialize in the development of animals from small populations spent years looking into how dog breeds both working and show started from either a small population of related individuals or a group of unrelated individuals selected based on specific working traits. In both situations line breeding inbreeding were used over a number of generations so specific Type could become fixed breeds bred for show had Fixed type based on appearance and fixed type for working lines were based on the traits needed for the work bein

I’m not going to sit her and argue AKC and forth I’m just going to say that about 150 plus years of performance dog breeding of all different types has shown not to agree with your opinion lol. And this can verified from records kept by the breeders of the many different working dog venues

And you can dress it up any way to want also. But seeing as the guys who compete at the highest levels have been using his line of dogs since the 1960’s and more than 60% of the greatest match dogs in the history of the sport were either directly from breedings he personally made himself or were bred by other people whose dogs were bred directly by him. I don’t really know what you know about thee dogs in the states but the majority of top competitors/breeders who compete with what they breed based there programs on the Eli/Carver line of dogs. Which are just tow strains from the sam

By your definition 99% of dog men are peddlers lol. Floyd doesn’t make a living of selling dogs and if you know the man you would know financially he’s barely above the poverty line lol. Also he doesn’t sell whole litters. Most are sold to working kennels or dog men. Only 1 mayb to might be sold to someone who shows them in ADBA conformation shows. And the sane group of people that buy dogs from him have been doing so for the last 12-15 years. If the dogs make the cut they let him know and also let him know if they don’t and he has access to breed to whichever dog best fits his standards

I have no idea why that stands for lo Bolero was a dog who a good friend of mine owned who was one of the best Bitches in in the history of the breed. And is the dog his family of dogs is based off of and produced good enough that a whole line of dogs is built around her
-
I definitely wouldn’t say that. But we could have different views on what a peddler is or isn’t. To me selling dogs doesn’t automatically make someone a peddler IMO if the objective of the breeder is to produce quality working dogs they can sell as many dogs as they want and I wouldn’t consider them a peddler. Now I do think that if they will sell a dog to anyone with the cash that is peddling. As long as there is due dull done on who they are selling a dog to I’m good with that. Now I do understand what you are saying because o also fell the a breeders honesty is important. But I’m

i didnt have 1 or 2 of his dogs. I had a yard of his dogs. And why doesnt he have any on his yard and why when asked he says no he doesnt produce blue's? Are you saying he is a liar? And look at that ped on that dog, is Mr Boudreaux the breeder? It didn't come from the man so who is to say were that color came from? And on the bottem half of the ped was someone else's dog so who is to say some moron didnt put the blue in there? It's a commen thing here for the blacks or ghetto fucks to do that and false the paper's Honestly if you don’t understand that you could breed half brother an

I have all the respect in the world for Floyd. But he’s a man just like any other and no man is perfect. If you think Floyd wouldn’t lie to you because most likely he could care less whether you believe him or not. It’s not going to effect him in any way. There’s is more than enough proof through written history along with actual conversations with dog men who had plenty of influence on the dogs who were the foundation of the various bloodlines from the very beginning. Look at some of the dogs owned by Lightner and you can not only read but also see the dogs he had that were blue blue is simpl

The whole to slow and clumsy thing was only said by those who wrote about dogs but never worked any. The cross was made due to the bulldogs style of fighting as in when they take hold they stay there and that’s it. Let’s be honest the pit dog men while they definitely valued a game dog and knew a game one always had the chance to win. But who doesn’t want to see a fight that is entertaining. A fight where both dogs take hold and just push each other back and forth an d. It much else is pretty boring. The terrier cross gave the dog what dog men call Finish. Which is the desire to permanently en

If we want to get technical bull blood was added to most working terriers. There are documents stating that bull blood was used in the jack Russell terrier before type was fixed then they were just bred back to the jack Russell side until the the bulldog structure didn’t have a negative effect on there ability to go to ground. According to some authors a cross between the bulldog and the whippet was the foundation for the Black and Tan terrier used in the rat pit

Old post I know. But I’m curious what doesn’t add up when it comes to various working terriers being crossed with the original bulldog. Everyone gets way to caught up in it being a 50/50 cross only based on what has been wrote about the bull and terrier crosses I have no doubt that the percentage of bulldog and terrier varied from breeder to breeder based on personal preferences when studying those dogs and seeing pictures it’s pretty clear that terriers were definitely crossed in. There are pit dogs that range on weight from as small as15-19 Lbs up to 75-80 Lbs. Now the majority of the dogs w

Okay. Can you tell me all the great performance dogs these unknown pedigree dogs produced. Because I’m willing to bet if there owners were planning on using them for breeding if they proved that they were actually worth breeding then I guarantee you that they knew how the dogs were bred even if they said they didn’t
-
There is not a single successful breeder of any type of working dog who is serious about what they do and has proven over the years they can produce dogs who. Have the ability to compete with the top competitors of there chose work, that doesn’t take a dogs pedigree into consideration when deciding whether or not they will use the dog for breeding. just in case my post sounded like I was disagreeing with. I just wanted to say that I agree with you completely
-
Exactly. I’ve been around bulldogs my whole life( Bulldogs = American pit bull terrier). And its the same stuff. Guys saying things like I don’t need no pedigree. Or I’ve seen dogs that cost $50 make those pretty pedigree dogs look stupid. All I do is laugh when people say things like that. For some reason they can’t wrap their heads around the fact that it’s possible for people to take performance and pedigree into consideration when buying or breeding the dogs. Name any of the best breeders who used what they bred and every single one of them has bred to a dog based only on how it was bred.

I love when people who don’t even know the guy have an opinion. He did not name the dogs after himself, people who owned the dogs gave them that honor. Also if people are happy with there working ability why does it matter to you. If you know bulldogs they are not keen hunters most don’t got the nose for it. They are more if they see it destroy it, but for them to actually put nose to ground and hunt for the animal not so good. The renterriers have much better noses and are great for a coyote who thinks they am easy meal

Is The Apbt The True Bulldog Or A Terrier Cross?
Bolero replied to DogFox123's topic in General Talk
This is old as dirt but how anyone could think they are the original bulldog is beyond me. Where would you explain the 19 lb pit dogs that look like terriers that were multi time pit winners when the breed first came to America. Hell most people like there pit dogs in the 30 lb range which is still small. I beleive some had more bulldog blood and some had more Terrier blood like 75/25 either way -

Ok whatever I did not contradict anything. But I really could care less. I bred and raised these dogs for 15 years and retired 4 years ago. Started at 12 never got bit and I never will so it really don’t matter much if people don’t believe me because I know the truth -

That was Colby who I grew up 30 minutes from and visited that yard many times as a kid by myself around the dogs never got bit. But yes his nephew was killed now again that man bred hundreds of the best fighting dogs the world has ever seen and there was only one incident ever and some papers reported it as a Boston Terrier not a pit bull so we really don’t know -

True and hat Tudor thing you have to take it with a grain of salt. They are bitey dogs that would nip at you not bite you do you really think an old lady could fend off a 45 to 50 lb bulldog that grabbed her all the time. The problem these mutts are being labeled pit bulls when they are not they are mutts. When you take a dog aggressive breed and breed to a human aggressive bred like a mastiff or American bulldog or carne corso or a pressa with no regard for proper temperment and owned by fools and no training you have a huge problem -

What do you consider a man biter? A dog who is wary of strangers but loves family. Now don’t get me wrong these dogs belong with dog men not the general public. But I feel that way with all working dogs. I am much more afraid of some man stopping Malinois or working line gegman Shepherd. Than any bulldog. I knew Virgil personally and while like I said he territorial. I have slept in a bed with this dog and was not scared for a second. Not to mention he grew up with a baby and no incidents and he was a house dog. A man biter will come at you any and every time you approach them. Whether on th -

If you look at there history every time they were in there chain spots they would act aggressive with strangers. But once off the chain acted like pups. Hell zebo lives in the house with mountain man. Most dog men back then did not really know the different types of aggression. A dog can be aggressive to strangers when on his territory. Take him off that territory and he is fine. But if you count bullyson, zebo, Virgil and maybe about 3 others. Hell let’s say there were over 20 man biting bulldogs. Now take the fact that there were thousands of fighting bulldogs bred that were not man biters y -

Every study ever done about bulldogs and aggression had said the same thing they are non human aggressive but very dog aggressive which is what all real dog men will say the same thing -

I am a bulldog man and the person who said some of the best dogs were man aggressive is so wrong I have been in these dogs all my life conditioned and tested my first dog at 12. Made my first breeding at 13. Got out when I was 27. I can count on one hand the truly man biting dogs. A man biting dog looks at a person like they do a dog. Are some territorial yes but that is not the same as man aggressive. In 15 years of breeding and using my own stock I have never once been bit not even close
