  4. think the video your talking about undisputed is dave slights purdeys progress another good video. another one up there i think is phil loyds coney catchers, not to sure about the warrener comes across as a con man runs other people down to much.
  5. one of the first lurcher films i bought when i first started out me and my brother have watched them time and time again excellent it set the standard we wanted to achieve from our own lurchers, as we had no mentor to show us the in's and outs of lurchers and lurcher work we relied on vid's and dvds of old and new as well as books. i enjoyed watching all the dogs work but was most impressed by the blue saluki greyhound gross. would rate the old vids compared to the modern flims produced today, dont get me wrong there's some good new films but they're just footage of people out doing there thin
  6. my biggest bags the wife oops did i just say that was ment to say 1000 rabbits with a pea shooter trying to cover myself here so the wife thinks i was joking about calling her a bag :black eye:
  7. Thank you everyone for all your replies. i read once that years back the flat coated retriever was the big thing but never mentioned much more on the cross. your ex husbands dog sounded a very handy dog, as for the show ring end of the thing that would'nt be important would rather a worker than a looker if its got the looks as well thats an added bonus. would be intrested in a first cross in the hope of working it to the gun as well as lamping and ferreting im not after a coursing champion here just a handy pot filling dog would love to see a few pics of the first cross and a 3/4 bred dog? i w
  8. were do yous lads and lasses buy your digging tools have noticed some handy looking grafts in pictures in this section good short handles with a good rounded head have been trying to find something like this but have'nt came across any was wondering if any of you's could send me in the right direction?? and advice would be recieved with many thanks. happy hunting all. 9. i think undisputed i right when he says its the owner that makes the dog but at the same time i think good parentage helps as well. one must remember the dam and sire can be the best workers in the world but if you dont put the work in your goin to end up with a shite dog regardless of how good the parents are. its one of those on going depates that never will be won each to the own. i would rather buy from working stock but thats not to say none working stock cant be brought on to be a top worker. to tell you the truth all a big name i a dogs breeding does is put the price of the pup th
  10. we should all keep each other right thats how it should be if i breed a litter its because i need a dog would rather know the rest of the pups were going to genuine decent folk for free than get 500 or any amount of money and not know were the pups are goin. once you see pound signs its time to quit you then in it for all the wrong reasons
  11. i think it would flush well mate i think that side of it would work, its the lurcher work side of it i ain't sure of. Probably not foxes but I'm sure it would lamp and ferret. maybe mate just an opinion, was just on freeads there mate looking for any lrucher puppies to see what was on it as iv nto been on it before and seen it mentioned on the site and came across this http://pets.uk.freeads.net/dogs/cross-bree...NDLE-670827.htm lol could'nt of found it if you were lookin it lol
  12. a seen a litter for sale of 3/4 bred pups couple of years back in the countrymans weekly but that was the only time i seen any litter of this cross advertised any were. seen a women walking her lucher and im almost 100% sure it was of this cross it looked typey enough
  13. Any one owned are seen this cross any information on this cross first cross and 3/4 bread any pics, possible good points and bad points? im into all forms of hunting weather it be lamping and ferreting digging and running foxes or hunting up pheasants and waiting for duck to fly in at last light. unfortunly i had to move back into town and my lurchers and terriers have taken up all my space my old lab died leaving me with no gun dog my wee lurcher bitch will hunt up pheasents, but none of the dogs are to fond of water. have been playing around with the idea of crossing a water dog wi
  14. i.ve watched this dvd myself thought it was a good watch i was impressed with the ground these dogs were covering the fact these dogs hunted the foxes up and caught them in the rough conditions they were running in did it for me. the fact remains that these dogs were catching foxes dose'nt matter how they ran them give me a dog that can hunt and catch a fox and dose'nt look good doing it rather than a dog that runs a fox makes it look good can turn on a sixpence and misses. its all about catching the fox at the end of day and if the dog makes it look good well thats an added bonus. you mus
  15. yeh im diffently keepin two dogs but i might run a bitch on with them not sure yet craking looking pups lad lookin forward to seeing a few pics of them as they progress, were abouts in N. Ireland ya from lad?
  16. i got envolved with lurchers when i was 17 bit of a late comer. I grew up rough shooting with my father and my fathers friend we wornt in any syndicate or gun club or anything just out for the pot i had no real intrest in school or football i just wanted to be down the river with my Owl boy waiting for the duck to come in or huning about in the hope that the lab would flush a pheasant or two, i love it i loved being out in the sticks if i was'nt out shooting with my da i was out walking the dog. I remember one night when we got home from walking the river we were sitting in the kitchen hav
