  1. Anyone know much about these? Heard they are a pest, good eating and easy to trap - but where would i find them?
  2. i dont think its too unreasonable, i have plenty of permission so not for me but ideal for people new to the sport. i cant understand why people are on here are so down on everything. We all had to start somewhere. if you can make a go of it craic on!
  3. Theres a really good thread on makng catapults nthe shootng and conservaton secton, have a read and gve t a try! good luck
  4. Nice one, i look forward to seeing it. Another tip s to cut out shapes in a plastc milk bottle and use them as templates, it breaks up the camo really well. Also always start wth the lghtest colour first and make sure each coat s dry before you start the next. Post some pics when your done.
  5. Pics are obviously too big, heres the last one
  6. Tyla 6 1/2 months Dam Saluki x Grey Sire Lab x Grey x Bull She's just started taking / retrieving shot rabbits on the lamp and had her first ferreting trip last weekend
  7. The folks running their dogs were fine bar the odd one. The wankers were a few of the committee or had influence on it, ones that didn't like getting beat & threw tantrums. I'm from Sussex too and know of the SLD. The trouble with clubs/shows etc. is that if the "expected" winner doesn't win someone has a tantrum and if the "expected" winner does win then someone else has a tantrum about that. Prefer to just get out in the countryside with my dogs etc. on my own or with friends who have the same interests. sounds like a nightmare! i can live without that kind of crap! Thank
  8. Shes 6 1/2 months, her breeding is dam salukixgreyhound sire bull/greyhoundxlabrador/greyhound neither of her parents were worked but she has taken to it like duck to water. Must be in the blood! Its not so easy to get good lurchers down here if you are a novice and not "in" with the right crowd but i couldnt be happier with her working background or not! Cant wait to see how she shapes up this season.
  9. Beautiful dog mate, hes the spitting image of my pup just with darker eyebrows.
  10. Thats fair enough, im new on here so no one can vouch for me but you would be welcome to come to my permission if that would help set your mind at ease a bit? I will have to let you know about the ferrets, I keep the dog and my hunting buddy keeps the ferrets (he is up for more but his wife is not as enthusiastic!) and for two more would need to build a court or extend the run. I've got a real soft spot for polecats though so i will see what i can do! Cheers
  11. Think you could be right there stubby! I will go for a 50 yd basic net i think. I've heard of people use electric fencing stakes as poles is that a good idea? Got to be lighter than hazel? Wheres the best placeto get one, Deben?
  12. I dont thinkits that bad an idea if you like it, its your gun at the end of the day. I did mine, turned out ok, just make sure you put on several coats of matt varnish once you've finished spraying. Good luck
  13. Just what gaz said, this one was still a little weepy but mostly healed up
  14. Where abouts? Near Dial Post. Thats very close, i wish i'd known before. Me and a mate been looking for 2 young jills for ages, ended up going miles for them and here you are on the doorstep! Is it mostly ferrets you use or do you do any dogwork? Ferreting, lamping with dog and gun, rifles, foxhunting, terrierwork, deerstalking, shotguns, fly fishing and so on... I am interested in most field sports. And I still have a couple of jills available..... Are they polecat or albino? We took our two young uns out today and they did us proud but a few of the buries ar
  15. Took out our two new jills for the first time today, it was also our first time on the new permission and the first time the pup has been ferreting. Although it was early in the season so alot of the buries were choked up with bramblw and crap. As the ferrets are new we tried to pick small open buries when we could although still got stung and scratched to sh*t. They worked their hearts out all day and, although we blanked on two buries where we could hear the bunnies inside (i think they were giving our girls the run around) i was well pleased. They bolted 5 rabbits, we netted 4 but let o

  17. Hi all, I've a fair bit of ferreting, shooting etc but have never used a longnet. Im interested in getting one so what should i get? Would be used at night and also to compliment the ferrets on open burys. Any tips or gear advice to avoid hideous tangles would be appreiciated too! Thanks
  18. Thanks to everyone who helped by posting. Here is the finished article, it needs proper catches and a coat of paint or varnish but on the whole its ok. Got a full days ferreting on sunday so i'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again!
  19. Nice gun, good to see someone else shooting a .20, the best calibre for far IMO. Nice stock, where'd you get it?
  20. Hello mate, i know the feeling. I've got a lurcher pup that would really benefit from watching an older dog work but people are right to be paranoid. I'd have to be pretty sure of someone before i offered to take them out, you never know who they will tell about it. Even if your doing nothing wrong why draw attention? Still you never know unless you try so, anyone in the south east up for showing a lurcher novice the ropes? Good luck
  21. If you want a cheap precharged then i think you wont do better than a second hand falcon. Cheap as chips from any gunshop and a wide range of options, all four calibres (admittedly not so many .20 or .25 about) 12" or 19" barrel etc. You should be able to pick one up for about £250 with scope and silencer. I've had mine for years and wouldnt swap it for any other gun. Have a think about .20 cal too, i dont think you can beat it! Good hunting whatever you choose!
  22. Just finished the box, i will post some pics tomorrow when i've got the hinges and that. Thanks for the info everyone!
  23. Thanks everyone, I will post some pics when i make the mark 2
