    With him getting a lamp I presumed he’d be going lamping, easy to misunderstand text for sure, but I’ve not gave him bad advice if for when he does lamp, atb he did say “and how shall I get him lamping for the first time”

    First rabbit is the important one, take your time, pick a windy night with a bit of rain to help muffle the sound of YOUR foot placements, use the wind to your advantage, by that I mean approach your intended target with the wind in your face, stick to the edge of the field you intend to lamp, a quick flick out with the beam will let you know if rabbits are about or if you can use a thermal imager or night vision even better, try to get as close to the rabbit as possible before releasing your dog, lampings about pot filling not massively long runs, the dog may not see its first rabbit till it

    Had a bitch similar coloured mid eighties just used to say she was two tone brown and tan, just said it as I saw it whether it was correct or not I don’t know, I loved the colour not that the colour means ote, atb

    Course they do Sid but it’s a fault which won’t get better and only gets worse and why would you breed from a dog with a fault like that when there’s plenty around with a good scissor bite.

    Have used a torch lately, easy to carry and conceal compared to a lamp and battery, but they make the torches too bright, even with a narrow beam they light the place up too much and the thing I don’t like the most is the led bulbs in them, you don’t get the ruby red eyes of a rabbit looking back at you and for that reason alone I’d say the lamp and batteries are better, atb

    Not done much ratting myself but most foxes from an earth was 7, dog, vixen and 5 good sized cubs, it was on a job for a farmer who needed a lamb killer sorted so they all had to go, would prefer to see them get away with the hope of meeting them again in future, but don’t always work out the way you’d like especially if you want to keep your permission, atb

    Anybody asks me my dogs name when I’m out walking the Lurchers I say Dave 1 and Dave 2, for the terriers I say little Dave 1 and little Dave 2, all bitches mind, get some funny looks when I tell em but too many thieving c**ts around these days not gonna make it easier for somebody to lift em by knowing their names
