Sire to my bitch a greyhound, her dam generation bred collie/ greyhound, agree with you 100% what you say, have had all sort different x's over the years, all have good and bad points, for me most important thing is putting quarry in front ur canines regardless how they bred, Atb
-
Definitely, bang on there pal, Atb
-
When my chosen quarry is in the beam and me and my bitch are making our approach and she's tight by my side she can't begin to pursue her quarry until I have given her the forward hand gesture, all this time her eyes are fixed on her quarry, she doesn't look up at me once, she doesn't need to, she can see my hand in her peripheral vision, dogs have something like an extra 60% peripheral vision compared to humans, did you ever try sneaking up on a dog when you were a kid, impossible to do and a source of much wonderment, Atb

I never said they need to watch you, was just giving an opinion on canine behaviour, pack followers watch pack leader be they wild canines or domesticated, and more so with herding types that constantly look for direction (commands) from their handler, I only lamp these days and never use a slip lead or verbal commands when out lamping, I'm old school and like a silent stealthy approach to my chosen quarry, fieldcraft, my bitch will stay tight to my side until I give her the forward gesture with my hand to pursue her prey, without it she has to stay put, my way is not right or wrong it's simpl

Dogs keeping an eye on you shows ur pack leader Ray, dogs want to work for you not just themselves, best way to have em imo, atb pal

Hi southeastcourser, after a cold/wet day or nights work the dogs get a good rub down with a couple of bath towels till they are totally dry, it also gives the muscles a thorough massage, this helps me feel for any lumps and bumps which are not normally there, when I'm happy all's OK with them I'll give them a warm meal to help them settle, I never used to have central heating just an open fire and used to bed the dogs down in front of that for the night, if they got bedded down in the kennel the heat lamp would be on to keep them warm, the dogs were bedded on raised beds keeping them awa

I stand corrected, please accept my apologies, I've kept and worked dogs for the past forty odd years, and have never experienced anything like a dog getting a cold, it's true what they say about every day being a school day, you taught me a lesson and I thank you for that, Atb

pups from both litters look awesome, all the best with em pal -
Hi pal, sounds like you are confusing having a bond with having good social skills, make yourself the centre of his world, don't be fooled into thinking it's just a puppy thing at 9 months of age, the more effort you put into him while he is young the better it will be for both him and you, to build a bond with him you need to know him inside out, get him to make eye contact with you every time you call his name, every time you feed him, brush his coat daily, physically examine the dog regularly, feel how is body is when he's in fit condition, make training feel like play to him but never over
