Running a dog with grub in its belly can cause bloat even if it's been fed several hours earlier, this can be a life threatening condition, I have always ran a dog with an empty gut and never had a problem, from what I've experienced with my dogs and mate's dogs is they seem more focused when they're run with an empty gut, after a meal my bitch takes about 15 hours before she needs to shit but every dogs different and every owner should know their own dog, there's no hard and fast rules in this game, it's each to their own, I want to feel confident every time I lamp and for me thats running th

Try putting a small pile of straw that she's pissed on in a corner of her run, with a bit of luck she will use that to empty herself and leave her bedding clean, Worked for me years ago with a dirty bitch I had, hope this helps, Atb pal

Appreciate your response Apache, neither do I think anyone would leave a tyke to ground to see how long it could stay I could have worded that better, and I agree with you totally about tykes settling in to their task when let to ground, a lot of earth's we dug on permission land weren't that deep, ranging between five and six foot but some were bigger, every time we broke through into the tube or crag of rocks and that beam of daylight shone in, the terrier would grab hold of his quarry and hold it for us to draw it, sometimes we'd break through to terrier and dead fox depending on which tyke

You've probably not done yourself any favours admitting she's not that fast and has bad feet but I respect you for your honesty, I'd just be really careful choosing your stud dog, kelpie crosses usually have good feet and are soundly strong well put together canines, I wish you all the best with your venture, Atb pal yeh that bull x looks a tidy animal too -

You can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear, start again with something that fits your bill and requirements, there's no shame in that, plus a litter of lurcher pups can be a nightmare from four weeks old, save urself the stress and buy in, as long as you do your homework you can get a good pup from a reputable lurcherman/woman, Atb pal -

A terrier or any hunting dog can only be tested by putting its prey in front of it, the more digs to a dog the better not time in the ground, longest I had a terrier to ground was 3 days, she was trapped below ground, when we got her back she was with a dead fox, three days one fox, most charlie we dug in one day with one terrier was four, that was from three different earths and thats a greater test for a terrier, most important trait for any terrier is the ability to find in deep places, if it can't find its prey it definitely can't work it, more digs tests how game a terrier is, all the be

Don't think it's ote to do with locators, more to do with the hunting act, back in the eighties we were digging four and sometimes five times a week, I just don't believe that's possible today but I may be wrong. The first deben knockerbox we had was like a godsend, saved us time which allowed for more digging time elsewhere, took a while to get used to tho, I was taught to use the bar and listen for the baying to locate the terrier, and we still did even when we had the knockerbox, we had a lot of permission, and sometimes we didn't, we had 15 or 16 terriers between us and they all had their
