Another trip out to my food fields and came away with these fella’s, better than a trip to Tesco for tomorrow tea?
-
Nice work, even though you didn’t get on the farmers 1000’s I can think of no better place to be on a beautiful sunny day, fingers crossed you’ll soon come across the farmers mystical, blue with pigeons field ?

Poachers ,Mixy and hedgepigs too

I’ve seen rabbits that have come back from mixy and they are non the worse for there troubles, I’ve had the kill them, leave them conversation with a few people, my farmer mate says leave them but I think that’s more like he wants it to spread rather then any concern for the rabbit welfare, I do tend to take them as once we get warm and damp the spread becomes rapid, last year I had one spot where you could walk round picking them up, the foxes must of been over the moon but it’s not a nice thing to see so many in discomfort and although a few will of come through it and maybe passed on strong -
Oh dear, that was a lot of shouting about nothing ?

I’ve not seen any mixy up here yet, but I’m sure it will rear it’s ugly head at some point, VHD is what bothers me as once one has it there’s no stopping it, at least with the mixy you stand a better chance of clearing them up slowing down the spread -
Oi, what you doing on here, there a load of good info on here mate ask any question and someone will have an answer, I thought I knew what I was doing until I started reading through this, pick up a few tips and we’ll give them a go next time we are out?

My .17 is zeroed at 100 yards the lad I know who has a WMR zeroes at 75 yards I’m not sure if other people do the same or he’s just odd because that seem a bit of a strange distance to me, I would set it up the same as the .17 but maybe I’m wrong
-
Cheers, it’s been to long since I’ve done some good old bunny bashing with the little rimmy ?
-
That’s the little cut down cz .22, I also took the bargain bucket .17 for my mate to use ( the mate that said it’s only good for knocking fence posts in ) his first two shots were 125+, I think he has been won over by its charms
-
I fully agree with this, the WMR hits very hard so a tricky shot on a fox is well within its capabilities be it side on or into the bib on the other side with the .17 if you are not head shooting fox the gun should be taken off you as 9 times out of 10 it will run on if it takes a round to the body, if you are wanting something to eat or sell on at the end of it I’d go for the WMR, I primarily use the .17 as a pest control rifle, it will shoot rabbits well over 150 yards but you need to ask, realistically how many are you going to shoot at that distance, if I can’t see it with the naked eye I
-
To me it comes down to personal choice they are both a very good round for 120+ yard bunny bashing, the WMR is a good hard hitting round but then again the .17 is flat and fast, the down side to the .17 is it is a little bit more affected by wind and they do make a bit of a mess, so head shot is required if you want to eat what you shoot, saying that I really like the .17 and own two of them, the main thing I like about it is I do a lot of night shooting and I don’t tend to have to work out distance, just put it in the crosshairs and squeeze the bang switch
-
Think I might take them down the curry route ?
-
A little walk out on some land that I use to feed myself, rabbits are about in good numbers but only take what I need from here as there’s no crop or live stocks it could of been mistaken for a summers night if it wasn’t so bloody cold
-
Good luck hope it works out well for you ?
-
A good job done, I don’t tend to shoot fox this time of year, but will if they are a problem, I will only shoot them if I know where the earth is, I don’t take any pleasure in killing cubs this way, for me I like nothing better than sitting up on a late July evening taking care of a full family that are been a complete pest as only a fox can ?
-
Very nice, that rabbit knows it’s in bother ?
-
I’m with you, them more I use them the more I like them, the one thing I do like is not having to adjust the scope over the distances I let the kids shoot rabbits at so when they starts off there’s not much for them to think about, stick it in the crosshairs and if you miss you were just a bit over excited
-
Yeah, just a cheap one with the ammo safe in the bottom but the lad has taken up surfing? So it came with everything it shoots as as it should, give it a test run yesterday evening and after a couple of clicks on the scope it’s shooting flat and fast, just the way I like it ?
-
I think the .22 and .17 are ideal for the kids once they start hitting thumper?in the head at 120+ yards they are hooked, the down side to the .17 is the quality of the ammo, the amount I’ve had with split cases is nuts and it doesn’t seem to matter who’s you buy you always find a couple split unless you buy Remington then about 50% if them seem to be split
-
For me, I have a little bit of land where you sit on top of a hill and all around the bottom are rabbit sets ranging from 75 to 160 yards, these little rimys seem just the job for the kids to have a go and for that price I couldn’t turn it down
-
Oh yes another marmite rifle for the collection, I bought it because of the price but to be honest I quite like them for a bit of summer bunny bashing, saying that my shooting mate would knock a fence post in with it
-
Ha ha, I’ll let you know after the draw on Saturday ?
-
Just got myself what I think is a cracking buy, got this little fella, cz 455 .17hmr with a hawke 3-9-50 and a cheapo sound mod, rifle has had just under 200 through it, it came with 150 rounds, gunslip, gun cabinet, all the cleaning gear and for some random reason 150 victory mini mag 40g cartridges, I gave the nice chap £250, happy days?
-
I have used it a couple of times now and I like it even though I thought it would be no use to me, I mount the nightmaster with just one battery and I shoot off a set of trigger sticks, what I really like about it is how easy it is to adjust in the dark, set it as soon as you get there and off you go, I think I’ll have to take the lad out who gave me it as a thank you

ha ha, this lot are nuts, were the chickens driving ?
