  1. In that respect I think the wife would say I’m 100% Yorkshire man ?
  2. That’s a very good idea to get them onto the wheat, I’ve had a bit of bother in the past getting them on the wheat, what I find works is scattering wheat on the floor and in straw to get them interested in it while there is still pellet in some of the feeders
  3. I think you could be right, I’m not convinced it works as well as the keeper said but knowing my look if I put it in one of the pens I’ll go up to check on them and 800 will be in that pen ?
  4. Not quite, if you were to ask me in the street I would say I’m from North Yorkshire, but I live in Stockton on tees, north of the river so I fall into Durham/Cleveland
  5. Richmond, Yorkshire, it is a lovely place, fields as far as the eye can see
  6. Got asked to go up to my mates sheep farm to thin the rabbits out, managed 27 for 31 shots and I would of thought if I walked it again I could of shot the same again, no pics this time as I’ve been told to leave them for the foxes as this is just a pest control exercise and to get up and sort the foxes out before lambing ?
  7. I used it at the end of last season on the advice of a keeper to keep the birds in certain areas but it didn’t seem to make any difference, they use it right through the season as soon as they are off the pellet, I have two main pens that have 400 birds each so I think one area will be getting the puller and the other just wheat, it will be interesting to see if it holds the birds or if they do what they always do and spread out over the woodland
  8. Had a wildcat on a .243 it looked like a Pringles can but did it’s job very well, it’s the one on my profile pic ?
  9. For what it’s worth I’d go 4 x 16, if you buy a quality scope you won’t have any bother loosing zero on mag, have a look at vortex optics, for me fixed mag are for on a range, the variable works better for me in the field as when you are pushing that shot out to a good distance you want to see a bit more of what you are shooting
  10. They are quite close on a pond of that size, I would expect to put the hides about 12 to 15 meters away giving you a bigger field of view to what’s coming in, I shoot a pond where we stand in the waters edge but this will be 45m wide by 70m long and surrounded by reeds, we tend to take a few over the fields surrounding the pond as they are coming in, so been a bit further away from the water does have its advantages, remember the duck knows where the water is so if you can be further back you will have more opportunities to take them, good luck for the upcoming season ?
  11. I’m sure this has been brought up before but I’m interested to know some other people’s thoughts on bird puller, I have a keeper mate who swears by it and I have a mate who is involved in my little shoot that says it does nothing, I used it late on in the season gone and to be honest I didn’t notice any difference I used it in a few feeders and didn’t notice more feed going from the feeders with puller in, I did notice deer love it as they smashed up a couple of wood feeders with it in
  12. Cracking shooting, I’ve left young ones in the field and waited for others to come along to some bait and they don’t seem bothered by it’s bro or sister on the floor, it doesn’t work in the later months of the year as soon as they get a whiff of death they are off, with age comes wisdom ?
  13. Get it zeroed mate and as UD says we’ll go out mouse hunting ?
  14. That looks very nice, I love the bolt on them, very centre fire ?
  15. Not a bother mate, I enjoyed the walk out, we’ll have to give it another go
  16. So me and longshanx had a walk out on a fresh cut field tonight for a bit of bunny bashing, shot 13 picked 10 some nice shooting from the long one with the.22, had a couple myself with the .17, think we will be giving it another go very soon ?
  17. So I have taken the Yukon photon rt out to have a play with it and for what it’s worth this is what I think as I was out on my own in day light I thought I’d start from scratch with it the first thing I noticed is the scope won’t mount far enough back for me it’s only a little bit but it’s enough for me to notice this sometimes make it hard to focus on the on screen display, another thing is the weight it completely changed the handling of the rifle one thing I really like is how easy it is to zero, bore sight it, move out to 100 yards put a shot down adjust the scope to your s
  18. I’m starting to think it’s just a bit of a gadget, if it works well in darkness I could see it been very useful for a keeper sat on top of a .223 or 22-250, but as for a general purpose scope I can’t see it myself
  19. I will do, hopefully I’ll get out on Thursday night and give it a proper test, all though the image is very good in day light I wouldn’t say it was as good as a decent scope, I would hope the image is crystal clear on a night with the ir
  20. For that price it should make me a cup of tea, it has got a bit of weight to it and you need to use lithium batteries with it because apparently it eats normal when it’s been used on a night
  21. Ha ha, I know, the rifle is worth about 1/3 of the price of the scope ?
  22. It’s just under 600 quid, now I’m not sure if I could justify paying that, on the other hand I’m still to see how it is in darkness, from watching videos it does look very good but I’m not sure it would replace the lamp
  23. It’s 6x50 day/night, the image is crystal clear, it allows you to record and has WiFi so I could see on my phone what the rifle was pointing at, it’s the first time I’ve ever used a digital scope and want to try it in full darkness, I’ve always been one for a scope and a torch so it will be interesting to see how I get on with this
  24. So I bought another .17 a few months back for not a lot of money mainly for a mate to use when out bashing rabbits, he ask me to get a better mod for it so put a dpt on, he then asked if he could change the scope and he would sort one out, I agreed and he has turned up with this, a Yukon photon rt, went out and zeroed it and what a bit of kit it is, the only thing I’m thinking is it is to much scope for not enough rifle
