  1. Don't listen to moron, he's an arse. I'm sure you'll start catching soon enough.
  2. I've thought about this, would be interested to hear the responses...
  3. Seems like Moron has crawled back under his rock, here's hoping!
  4. Thanks for the advice lads, he seems to be walking normally now so hopefully just a minor strain. Trouble is, something like this happens and the worse case scenario's go through your head. It'll be his first proper season so hopefully it'll be a good one.
  5. Im a bit worried about my lad as hes limping a bit today. Yesterday he was playing with a mad collie for most of the morning and managed to sniff out and chase a fox at about lunchtime. He was fine for the rest of the day but im assuming he got the injury from the playing or chasing. Earlier in the day. He didnt start limping till late last night when i took him out before bed and then was still limping today. It seems to have not come on straight away but seized up while sleeping in the evening. Its his front right leg but i cant find any obvious cause. He does seem to be improving and
  6. Or you could ask, is lamping unsporting with the dog pissed out of his head, very dangerous?
  7. Every dog has a story and you told it very well. They really know how to get under your skin don't they! RIP Ozzy
  8. Yep, taking the best from tradition and the best from modern innovation. Life is a balancing act.
  9. Sorry mate, that comment wasn't aimed at you or the other sensible, level headed and experienced people advising me here, but at the insulting idiots who are unwilling to even discuss doing things differently. I have nothing against doing things the traditional way and will probably end up getting a couple of ferrets and maybe a terrier to flush to my lurcher but first I need to get out with someone to get some insight. Trouble is, once I get an idea in my head... Still may end up with that teacup chihuahua ?!
  10. While their are some good replies to this thread either side of the debate, it seems that even discussing doing anything differently is a hanging offence for some.
  11. So not a completely bonkers idea then! I imagine a dog would be more easily persuaded to come back to the surface than a ferret? If dogs were sold by weight I would get one right now?
  12. Maybe I could borrow black neck's caged beast?
  13. They'd probably be more popular if they were I suppose.
  14. Yes I was reading about them. I'm surprised there's not more info about them.
  15. I'm new to working dogs but I have a young lurcher and he's coming along nicely. I've been wondering for ages if their is a dog suitable for entering to rabbit warrens in a similar way to ferrets? I've read a bit about teckels in the ultra mini rabbit size but seems to be very little info on them. Would a small jack Russel do the job and would it be a realistic or advisable way to hunt? What I have in mind is entering the little dog to flush rabbits to the lurcher for some daytime work just like a ferret but also a dog that could work cover to flush rabbits and any other game, and maybe track
  16. My dog has a lot of whippet and I think that whippets can tend to yap.
  17. I read that the terrier crosses are mute breeds, that being the main reason for not using other terriers. Do any of you that have these crosses find that they open up?
  18. No offence intended but I couldn't pass over commenting on the irony of your comment "they kill for fun" on a hunting forum! So it's alright for us but not for them? I'm not saying you shouldn't control them or be pissed off at seeing the carnage but they are making hay when the sun shines!
  19. Hi Penn, this is how I started out with lurchers about 2 years ago. I wanted a dog and, being into foraging and fishing, a mate suggested a lurcher. I liked the idea of a dog that could put food on the table now and then. I have a young family, Allotment and work as a gardener so don't have a lot of free time but do manage to fit in a bit of mooching (basically taking your dog out, early morning usually best, for a walk with a view to catching something for dinner) and lamping. You may find that you get chatting to people while walking the dog (dogs do that to people) and find someo
  20. Sorry, couldn't resist it! I'm sure your petunias are lovely?
  21. I wouldn't like to say mate? but I gather you've got a plentiful supply of bull manure! ?
