I hate the things. Took a headboard off a bed and put it down the garden for the owner to throw away, must of been 50 in it crawling about. Drenched it in ficam wp and they were still alive a week later when I went to do a follow up. I got a cimex steamer afew years ago, really good tool.

My mate collects colliery bricks from local pits. Found one last friday from hawkins colliery in cannock, well over 100 years old.

I've got two squirrel traps I use. Most I caught in one set was 7 and then 2-3 a day after for another few days. but pre baited for a week first. Never used multi catch for rats.

Was In one of the hotels yesterday. Huge tv in the foyer smashed as was one in a room, when I asked what's going to be done about it staff said 'nothing, we've just ordered him new ones' Country is a joke..

I've seen it once. Magpie chased a sparrow, knocked out out the air onto the floor and pecked it to death.

As dido said if you cant find any external holes its usually the drains. Lift any inspection covers for your drains, look for stones, soil, loft insulation anything that shouldn't be there. Ivy or other shrubs growing up to gutter can be a route in. They can also shimmy up the gutter downspout. Check under the roof tiles around the downspout for gnawed holes.

One of the local hotels I cover at work has just started to house them. 62 rooms, 2 to a room. Three meals a day, room cleaned once a week. First day there one walked up to the maintenance guy and pretended to point a gun in his face and shoot him, then walked off laughing.

The chap I asked is an avid collector and dealer. Same chap who i sold the sara to and he paid me very well for that. That was another trap that was well over engineered. You could imagine it shaking itself to bits when it fired ! It's only worth what someone wants to pay, but this ones not for sale.

Alot of these traps are over complicated, the length of the trap is 20 inches sprung, in what situation would you use a trap this long to snare a rabbit ? It doesn't make any sense. They are so rare because they were crap at what they were supposed to do so got thrown on the scrap heap !

Yes, you and ken are correct. It is a snare. The loop went over the trigger pan and was attached to each end bar that springs out. Apparently to catch and hold a rabbit by the leg. Had a better look today and the is the remnant of a brass wire on one end. Also spoke to another collector who knows far more than me, straight away he told me what it was, approx age, 1920s and value. Thanks all for your input.

Afew more pics showing it set, sprung and the trigger pan. I think the wording is paiges patent and 'the humane' at the bottom. Still cant work out how it would kill tho ?

Ok , well thanks for your help so far. Any more info would be welcomed. If it is what you think a price would be interesting but it wont be for sale, made that mistake with the 'sara'

It's only about 18 inch long and the killing springs either either end are small mammal size

Hi jok, I think so, but not sure as it's in the fired position in the pic so cant make out how it would kill in the set position ? I'm guessing its American. Got it at a local auction last night in a job lot of traps. Cant quite make the names out on the plate.
