Dogs n mooching with the catapult

I was just having a look at bedlington prices yesterday and again I still could not believe the prices, touching two grand...something needs done to regulate it. Often thought about teckels, look like cracking dogs, full of character I bet. The nose down and off hunting is the bit that makes me a bit wary. I always said my last little jack Russell had some mini dachshund in her, she was an amazing hunting dog and a great house dog, but she was a bugger for turning deaf and having me searching all over for her......best bushing dog I’ve owned and probably caught more than most dogs ive owned -

How do you find patterdales as pets/ mooching companions. I’ve only come across a few and been out with a rescued one which was a pet, but I reckon had been worked, it’s ear was also stamped. This was great in their family environment, but off lead his nose was down and he was off....goodbye.....never changed. I went to look at some patterdalex Russell pups once and the sire was the patterdale, in its kennel it was going nuts, if it had got out it would have definitely gone for me....good little guard dog indeed. The only other ones I’ve seen have been pets which have gone missing.....pro -

Nice offer that, if I’d have been after one I’d have snatched your hand off. -
Just curious if any of you take any dogs with you when you’re out with the catapult and if so what type of dogs you got. Ive two, both little lurchers.....the older of the two is bed whip x collie/grey/whippet, other spaniel x lurcher. I often wonder what dog I will get in the future and I know there’s been a few threads on the lurcher section regarding the price of lurchers etc, but it wasn’t until the other day I had a look on a general dog selling site and I couldn’t believe my eyes. Think I searched spaniel and the first two adverts that came up were cockers...... £2400 per pup.
-
Can see the novelty value of these, but wouldn’t fancy been caught carrying them......legal or not. Sooner fancy my chances been caught with a bow an arrow.
-
Could be, but funnily enough I’ve just put a new one in a week back. I reckon like you said I might be maxing them out or I’m tying too tight at pouch.
-
Thanks for posting that.....it’s a great idea and I will definitely be giving it a go.
-
Well my active length is 15cm, but I’m using 16cm at minute due to my struggling muscles....so probably not maxing....although I’m going to get my wife to measure my draw length in a minute. I’m using crystal string which I like, but also got that thin stretchy band they also sell. I tend to wrap the crystal string about 8 times and the other stuff about 6, although I haven’t used it that much.
-
You do right trying them all. I enjoyed shooting some theraband gold today with the 8mm. I’m fed up at the minute with the amount of bands that seem to be snapping way too early. Not sure if I’m tying them too tightly at the pouch.
-
Is your in box possibly full?
-
That’s a nice offer, I definitely take you up on it.... I’ll message address details over.
-
I used tubes but never really tried them out properly. Which tubes you think would suit 8mm?
-
It’s a good height that, my collie greyhound bitch was around that height. These days for me a small whippet sized lurcher, with a bit of speed removed would be fine....to be fair I’d probably be fine with a pure springer or springer whippet or kelpie whippet.
-
Love these kelpie crosses, but for what I’d do....just mooching....a lot in and around woodland edges ......I reckon a whippet x kelpie would be lovely companion for me.
-
I’ve found that’s my biggest fault exactly what you described.......I spend most of my time at the minute trying to sort an anchor point that’s allowing me to hit vertical targets I forget about my release and end up pulling through and you can guarantee when I have bad miss it’s because of this.
-
Worth having...good price considering.
-
Another way.......easy if a little fiddly...and your patient. If you have an iPad......open and write what you need to write....keep it open, don’t press post, now open the iPad photo app, go on the photo need to on the page where they are just thumb nail size.....hold your finger on pic for a second then drag it, now keeping your fingers on pic use your other hand to reopen the site and thread you were on, drag the pic over where you want it. Now you need to see the flashing blue line that’s always there when you type, you then will see a little cross on your pic that is still und

Best bet for finding a dog like this is searching through the general big dog for sale websites or preloved etc. Most are accidental matings, mine was, but I was lucky in that the owner of the spaniel dam was a game keeper who also owned the lurcher sire. My mom nearly bought a cocker x whippet which also was on a general website. The other place I saw one advertised was a local pet store.....it was another accidental mating between a fellas cocker spaniel and saluki/ greyhound. To be fair I couldn’t give a stuff if the dam had been a pet spaniel and the sire a pet sighthound, the offsp

Not very often you see a proper working dog on this site.

I was using an old celebrations chocolate tub for all my catapult paraphernalia....did an ok job, everything was just piled on top of each other though. Anyway I bought the below from catty shack the other day...£12 ish, it’s brilliant, has five good size inner compartments and loads more smaller ones going around the perimeter, also has a draw code and a carry handle. Everything is at hand without searching around. I definitely recommended one, should last a life time.

I naturally hold mine like you mention, slightly twisted anti clockwise, my wrist feels more naturally relaxed and I don’t have to think about it, slightly twist my forks in the same rotation, however I do exactly as you describe as well, switching to the thumb been at the top. Off top of my head I’m not sure which I do at the minute, I’ll check when I go out, but I’m pretty sure I twist my hand slightly anti clockwise as it fits more naturally on the anchor points.
-
No, I totally understand....they were my exact thoughts before I got spaniel x lurcher. Mine live inside and I’ve owned a couple of jrt before and I had one that drove me nuts as much as I loved her and I was sceptical that the liveliness of some spaniels might be a tad too much for my temperament. I couldn’t have been more wrong, honestly such loving temperaments and very calm when in the house...very easy to train, although I only use two commands, heel and recall. It still baffles me how few gun dogs are used in lurcher breeding they add a lot to mooching dogs. To be fair I’m not too bothe

Cheer for that. I had a border/beardie x greyhound many years ago and sort of had the temperament you describe, just got on and did his thing. You couldn’t have asked for a better temperament of dog, so laid back at home. If the kids came round to the house he’d go outside to his kennel. He was so gentle and calm, but when out he was a different dog, such a natural hunter. He would range much more.......he was totally different to straight border collie cross....he just had a hunting drive more like a spaniel. Have you ever considered getting a spaniel x lurcher as a mooching dog? There s
