  1. Make interesting dogs......bloody puppy pushers though.
  2. Sound....are they your own line or do you buy in. I’ve always fancied buying one, but Ive always held back. One of my bitches mom was half bed x whip. how you find them?
  3. Cracking little dog that. If he is well behaved don’t tie him up and take it from there. Russell’s behaviour can vary from one to another, but that bloody whine that some do is enough to drive you mad. My last was a cracker, she used to catch more game than my whippet n lurchers. Only fault mine had she would occasionally pop below.
  4. No Hit and miss, but there’s better lurchers I’d say
  5. NO........Love whippets......cracking game little dogs, but cant think of one advantage of a whippet over a purpose bred lurcher for catching rabbits other than they breed true to type.
  6. Lady I knew had two pet English setters......bleeding hell, you want to see them hunt. They have a certain speed to their work, great to watch.
  7. LIke I said I’m not here to bitch. Sorry ifI’ve touched a raw nerve........and never have I said they don’t catch their prey. You won’t get me to bite...sorry.
  8. Always liked bryn......by Christ that Buck looks solid. I’m same doing it 30 plus years and my body is goosed before it’s time. Any particular bull breed? I used to know this old retired fella who had always had collies,I hadn’t seen him for a while anyway ends up his collie had past and he bought an American staffy ( I think ), it was stunning and very racy. Anyway he was saying this was his second as he had to have his other put down. He said it used to love apples and one day he was walking it on the lead while holding an apple in his other hand, dog went around the back of him after the
  9. How old is Bryn now....he’s doing well
  10. It’s seems that way, she’s a great one for the pot dog. Mine was full springer bitch to tall lurcher.
  11. Cheers bill.....but I can’t seem to access pic....prob something wrong my end. i also knew an old fella back around 1986 who also had two lab x whip....Sandy in colour, one was the spit of a whippet the other a bit more fuller figure. He used them mainly as ferreting/ hedgerow dogs and he seemed happy with them.
  12. Cheers Shaaark.......she’s a grafter....certainly not everyone’s cup of tea though.
  13. Don’t think there’s many blokes from old pit villages that haven’t. I not bothered about bitching.....sorry.
  14. Your right it is personal preference. I’ve always found a good dash of collie usually gives a more weather hardy dog, even my short coat collie lurcher was very hardy, but her coat was dense. I’ve a bitch here that is the most weather sensitive dog I’ve ever owned, but once she’s soaked she tends to perk up a bit. i used to work my whippet all weathers....they’ll do it, but they suffer. Regards lamping.......I agree. I also found the whippet to chase more than get on and strike. Great little dogs, but for me a lurcher allows more flexibility in meeting your personal hunting needs.
  15. Just wondering if many people are working any gundog lurchers and how you are getting along with them. I just generally go on long walks with mine and see what happens.......don’t do lamping and ferreting these days. My springer x lurcher is doing just fine, although she can be sensitive to loud noises which can really ruin the day. I tend to get most of my kicks these days from appreciating my dogs hunting skills. Most of her catch’s are from her work style, she’s very stealth, never rushes into something. I remember when she was still a puppy she would spot squirrels playing near a haw
  16. Whippets feel cold wind and rain.....period....no difference if working strain or show.........here in uk. So much more to a working dog than just speed...for me anyway.
  17. That’s fair fair enough. I personally love whippets, preferring the smaller stockier ones, although when it comes to standing around in wet cold windy weather they can turn into shivering wrecks, also found then to lack stamina. Great dogs if you work in warmer weather and don’t expect too much.
  18. Can’t see what a collie would bring.......really?
  19. That what I expected, I was really surprised to hear the words sensitive and bedlington in the same sentence.
  20. I often wondered which bit of the breeding in mine attributed to the sensitive nature of her.....was it the collie, whippet or bedlington. I always thought the bedlington would have that same jrt attitude that I love so much, but I was surprised on the recent bedlington lurcher thread of how many commented that you have to be careful with the sensitivity of the bedlington lurcher....never expected that.
  21. I’ve never had it personally with a pure border collies or half cross collie lurchers, but my bed/whip x collie/whippet/ greyhound is REALLY sensitive.
  22. Thanks Trenchfoot.....I totally understand, sensitive dogs can really test you, in fact the younger of my two has been the most sensitive I’ve ever worked.....a real in in the ass.
  23. Trenchfoot........what’s your preferred ingredients these days? cheers shortstraw
