  1. Had some signs of rats knocking around the quail pen so decided to set the cage trap and fenn. I find the most successful bait for me is chopped apple but as I had none to hand carrots it was. Had them before around the same time of year and only caught 1 or 2 and then No more sign of them until the following March so fingers crossed I get the bliters. Wish me luck
  2. Wood stocks do occasionally get dinged up but I wouldn't worry about polishing the wood. Not very often anyway. Plastics always good for a gun that's going to be used and abused and be chucked about a bit, like when duck shooting. Never been fussed about dinged wood (unless serious), just adds character. I have OCD for good clean metal work tho haha. Hate rubbed away blueing or even the slightest rust
  3. Ah I see. I have heard good words about Brownings. Very reliable from what I've been told. Always loved the vintage 'humpbacks' but they're heavy f*****s haha
  4. Ah fair one mate. No way of making the action lighter/smoother to cycle the 28s/32s? Don't know a whole lot about semi autos
  5. Tbh I've heard good thing Bout the escort. Out of curiosity what is giving you this opinion. I'm guessing jamming issues?
  6. Anyone else passing by, feel free to show us your favourite gun(s)
  7. Very nice mate youre not far from me tbh mate
  8. A Glenmoor rabbit trap is what it was called, used a tripwire mechanism to set it off. Looks like it used a fairly small gauge wire as the killing bar which looks like it engaged in a catch on the upper metal arm on the right hand side
  9. There was a trap that used a killing blow from a bar. Will have to look for an image and other info, but a trap like that would work just may be a bit on the heavy side
  10. Just seen photos as now using my phone. Don't show on iPad. Although I own a few guns including a practically unused Webley 712, I have to say my favourite of the lot is a bsa bolt action 410 with lee Medford/enfield bolt system, which is also the second shotgun i ever bought. Made in the late thirties and one of the last ones. Had a strange a strange bead placement on the barrel, being roughly an inch from the muzzle with a groove just past the bead. Eventually found out that, as it was made in the thirties the barrel had been on these guns was 23", being shortened from the 24" in the 20
  11. Any photos mate. Don't have any 20 bores (yet?) but absolutely adore the beretta o/u 20bores. I think the scale is just right not compared to some 12s which always look big and bulky when beside a 20 on the wall. They always look like lovely guns to walk around for hours with. Love the look of 28 and 410 doubles for the same reason. anyone else feel free to share
  12. That's fair enough I suppose. You're better off snaring as if someone does steal a snare it's not too bad just will have to pull the others up so no more are nicked. Hate to have a pricey imbra or even fenn (£11) stolen
  13. Yes and possibly to stop the rabbit being flung out of the trap as it is triggered? Perhaps it's this that make it a lethal trap ?Heard of things surviving the mk6 but never an imbra or juby
  14. Yeh I think it's the picture but like I say I don't have any information on it at all so have no clue what it was for what it the jaw span on an imbra by the way??
  15. Right, so Was thinking a fun discussion to start would be a one when people talk about their favourite gun and what makes it your favourite. Doesn't have to be your absolute best or pricey gun just the one you like the most for certain reasons such as an heirloom, first gun or has a story behind it. obviously show pics and let us see what you've got ?
  16. Found this picture, haven't a clue who made it or what it's for but I'm guessing if you were to fit a bmi spring to it and change the jaw shape slightly, I'm thinking it could possibly do the job ? Thoughts??
  17. Was wondering on the law regarding a greens/groundskeeper who also lives on the land, granting permission to someone to control rabbits. Does he have the right to grant this permission??
  18. That is something I also wonder about. I know of ferrets being caught but never really heard of incidents with dogs. Dogs seem to just sniff a hole and never seem to try and dig out the rabbit, from dogs I've seen around holes anyway. I guess if a terrier chases a rabbit down a trapped hole, it's most likely going to be triggered by the time the dog reaches the trap ?
  19. Indeed true about choking being in humane but possibly a similar idea just with more force behind it to cause more of a instant death. Similar to how the imbras kill. I think the curved imbra/juby jaw shape is the way to go. All that is needed is to make it lightweight yet durable enough for use in the field. Any thoughts on how the mk6 could be improved i.e. Jaw shape etc as I believe the power is there just the power is being used on too large of a surface area as said by someone on another thread. I noticed how everyone rates the mk1 rabbit so I believe it is a jaw shape thing as I be
  20. A "stop thief" trap designed for rabbit sized creature using a choking loop. A "Douglas improved humane trap" utilizing a spring bar which pushes against a loop similar to a Bavarian mole trap (third image). Surely with a stronger spring, this could be a good design??
  21. So a modern imbra design, built with lighter metals would probably be a way to go. To me it seems that what made the imbra and jubys perfect for the job is the curved jaws which really produce a scissor like action. Might have a go at producing some lower power prototypes with this jaw feature. and what would be people's thoughts on a choker style trap?. Im sure there was a trap years ago designed with a steel choking loop. Have to have a look around for a picture and what it's name was. Also, I think there may have been a trap which worked similar to those bavarian mole traps, in which
  22. After reading through a few other discussion regarding the fenn mk6 being the only commercially available rabbit trap, in which to set in holes, and with many regarding it as being far less humane and simply not for the job as the jubys and imbras were, I thought a discussion on what would make a more effective, yet lightweight design, possibly taking features from all the traps mentioned above would make an appropriate and possibly, interesting topic. anyone with suggestions on what they believe makes the fenn not so ideal for the job and how it could be improved (possibly the ideal desi
