  1. Hi all I need of some advice and thought where best to ask! My lurcher pup is coming on well with her basic training a little head strong but all in all coming on very well only thing I seem to be struggling with is getting her used to the beam I’ve had her out with a rabbit skin dummy with reflective tape on it casting the dummy out and using the beam for her to see. Doing this hoping she will run down the beam and pick the dummy but she won’t look down the beam at all and the odd time when she does she won’t repeat it! She 9 months old and probably been doing it for 2 weeks not every night b
  2. Cheers Jon think your right I’m gonna use longnets and purse nets no bolters hopefully. see how she goes
  3. Yeah I can’t see the harm really think it will be a good learning curve for her few times out the penny should drop
  4. Hi everyone I’m off ferreting to new spot in a couple of weeks plenty of rabbits open ground, now the question is do I bring my pup along? I’m in two minds I don’t want to feel like I’m rushing her but also feel like it will do her some good she has seen a few bolters out and about and she is steady with ferrets good with stock and basic obedience isn’t to bad! Also there will be two of us which allows me to focus on her a little more. What’s your thoughts and advice on this? Thanks in advance
  5. Yeah I agree with you Davo get them around stock soon as they can nothing worse than a pup or older dog chasing stock, remember taking a friend out one day ferreting to permission I had just acquired whilst we were talking to the farmer his dog took off after a sheep was the most embarising thing ever I wasn’t sure if he was going to kick me off his ground but luckily his reply was you better keep that dog on a lead ?
  6. Can’t find any topic mushroom. Quite intrested in hearing how forcing a pup to do something it doesn’t want to do works though? How do you go about that mate?
  7. I’m relatively new to the site and also visited topics on training lurcher pups I’ve came across some real good advice but very different opinions, I’ve seen people who train there pups as young as 9 weeks old and start them lamping at 6-7 months old, I’ve recently bought a new pup after my old collie x passed away I’m finding training at the moment is out the question to a certain extent and finding letting her be a pup is working out to be the best option whilst teaching her things whilst she is in play mode, sit , stay and recal she knows I want to play and making things fun and getting a b
  8. A few factors really mate I wanted a dog for ferreting but numbers on rabbits are low was looking at getting a whippet but decided to go for something that’s gonna make 23 to 24 TTS so I use her for lamping ferreting mooching plenty of work for her then. beddy whippets good ferreting dogs deer grey good lamp dogs so ticked all the boxes really
  9. Beddy whippet x deerhound greyhound mate
  10. Well after a long few weeks pups settled well in to kennel basic training coming on a treat let’s see your pups to bring on. all the best!
  11. Heard they make pretty good rabbiting dogs mate always used a first x collie grey for ferreting and lamping but she passes away so after something with a few more gears
  12. Probably start her with the ferrets first then move on to a bit with the lamp
  13. Long time before I even think about that mate
  14. Pups settled In a treat still a bit of crying but on the whole pretty good gonna take it slow with her and do my best to get the best out of her thanks for the reply’s.
