holy grail replied to young beater's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs

not that we saw but they claimed to have already got 3. woudn't supprise me as the fallows are in numbers round my area. i used to own a deerfarm (but i didnt run deer) of 150acres. there used to be 49 head on there until they broke the fence and now roam the countryside along with deer from other local farms

out foxing the other day with my Deerhound, my mate and his staghound. we were working on a den when a group of hunters with about 16 deerhounds came through the scrub after fallows. it was an amazing sight to see those dogs cruizing through. god they made a racket. was pissed i didnt have a camera

boys. they are called 'Harrows' not H arrows. theyre 1 word. Harrows are an implement for a tractor that is designed to mulch dung, topsoil and remove weeds (there are many different one's for different purposes). it sounds like the one you drove over is a pasture harrow, which is for mulching up dung. mulching up the dung basically just speeds up the decomposing and nutrient cycles of the soil. there's a little education for ya. sorry if i seemed like a know it all. farm machinery is one of those areas for me. cheers

Jack Russell X Australian Terrior
holy grail replied to holy grail's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
roghtio. thanks guys. sorry but i cant get to that show. also, i ended up getting him. i got him for nothing as the owner is someone whom i recently baught a deerhound off and have become good friends with. the breeder said that i can send him back to her if it doesn't work out. Win Win situation i think. -
I know what you mean wink hound and you're right but with the 2 strokes you get a sharper band come in expecially at the bottom end. I have had a few 2 stroke crossers mainly Yamahas and a KTM and you could pop the fronts up in the air on these virtually in any gear, I know some of the Thumpers are the same but the power is delivered more Instant on a 2 stroke hence the name 2 stroke, the engines fireing sequence is every 2 strokes as to 4 with the 4 stroke, I just like the 2 strokes cause a good one can be pretty lively to say the least. Cheers Jasper Jasp, there loads of 2 str

ive been hunting foxes since i could hold a shotgun. now as a contract shooter, i highly recomend BB's, in either a 32gr or 36gr. Scorpio are the brand i desire, cheap but good. good luck

ya sure can get 2 strokes mate. in my family there are 5 quads. 4 of which are manual sports quads and 2 of them are 2 strokes. a Banshee and a Blaster (both yamaha). you may not beleive me but the Banshee tops about 155km/h. its unbelievable. its a 350twin cylinder 2 stroke (power band ofcourse). we use the quads for fox hunting, with shotty's mounted to the side. they are loads of fun. here in australia you can legalise quads, but only for stock moving purposes. im not sure about the UK and etc. here is a picture of the Banshee.

bloody oath they are good. there a Honda. very reliable these days. im not sure if im right, but i think the difference is that the Fourtrax is built tougher (stronger) than the Foreman. you could say the fourtrax is for going bush and on the farm, whereas the Foreman is for use perhaps by a greenkeeper on a golf course. im also not sure whether the Foreman comes in a 4 wheel drive model either, though i know the fourtrax does!! whats your intended use for it?

gday. it turns out, that after all this time, Scruffy is a cross between a Jack and an Australian Terrior. now im wondering whether or not he'll be any good on foxes n shit like that? anyone know

ya not maken much sense???? are you refering to some sort of ball game? aswell as being a smart ass?
-
he is 8 months old. no he's never been used on anything yet, but the owner/breeder seems to think he's got the right attitude for it and would be a good dog for hunting.

what ya mean by ' the rugger'? never heard that term...

thanks for your replys guys... whippet boy.. you are right about the barbed wire to a certain level. i didnt actually teach him on barb wire. on my property theres an old holding paddock that was run down, so i removed the fences and started new ones. what i did was to only add a few wires from the bottom to start, and as he got used to them i added 1 new wire each time until he was jumping 1.3m. i made all the wires plain on that fence, so all i then had to do was to take him to different fences and try him, in which he had no trouble at all. for those whom are asking... he's a Deerhound

im looking into getting this Russell pup as i said in the topic titled "Jack Russell". obviously he's not a purebred, but does anyone have any ideas on what he may be a cross between? i cant get hold of the owner until tuesday, but i want to find out right away.. does anyone think they know?

you are damn right Skycat. ive 2 dogs, whom were never locked up at all until 1 morning they werent present. they'd gone down to the neighbours whom had a Lab bitch on heat. since then they are locked in our large run ONLY AT NIGHT, and are let out 1st thing of a morning. they are out all day every day to hang around the house and go cool of in the Lake on the edge of our property. dogs shouldnt be chained up. if the need to be detained at all... a Run is the best thing.

as of yesterday my new 11 month old Deerhound is clearing full size cattle fences with ease. he went from a hound that had been taught not to jump and whom couldnt even jump onto the back of the ute - to clearing fences and gettin on the ute like its just a large step in just over 2 weeks. im so proud of him. i managed to snag a picture of him on his 2nd jump.

holy grail replied to jakehalliday's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
you did well. its good that your son is taking an interest. nice fox -

deerhounds are a great breed. you could say that you don't need something quiet that big for rabbits, but if you also want a dog with a lovely nature then i recomend them. i just recently got one (purebred deerhound) and i just love him. they are a very big dog and are gentle until they are chasing.

yes but ive heard that pure Jacks are better than crossbreds and so fourth. is that true?

gday. im after a Jack Russell for foxing and rabbiting, you know, the usual. im also new to terriers, and have never owned one. i've been offered this Jack Russell by a friend whom is 7 hours away, so i cant go and see the dog. my friend sent this pic to me. ive never seen a Jack Russell that is all one colour (without any white). does anyone know: if Jack Russell's can be all one colour? and therefore, is it possible that this guy is Purebred, because thats what im after??? Does anyone Know? any replys would be helpful and much appreciated.
