  1. Cheers boys. Its all about dug over now, was going to go down and do some more weeding but its raining so im unsure what to do. There is a place to keep chucks so i think i will give that a clear out. Jack, its pennies mate. The official council ones are £11.00 a year, but these ones im on are closer and cheaper! Harry, go on, give it a go! All you need is a spade/fork and some time to start and thats it. Once the donkey work is done im hoping its a case of letting them grow and having a couple of hours a week titivating (emphasis on hoping!!)
  2. Thought id share the fact ive just got me an allotment. Its great soil and only a 5 minute walk from my house. I have dug it over this last week and its getting rotivated at the weekend. Really looking forward to getting stuck in. I eat loads of rabbit etc so growing my own veg is a natural progression. Also got space for some chickens as the wife stopped me having them in the garden. Watch this space! trappa
  3. Its all down to the area mate. Some forces wont grant them for love nor money while others are more flexible. Its silly really, a rifle is just as deadly as a pistol but not as easy to hide, period. If they trust you enough with a rifle then surely your trustworthy enough with a pistol?!? Im sure if joe "psycho" bloggs was to go apeshit he could kill more in a frenzy with a high powered rifle than a pistol where you cant hit jack shit over 30 ft.
  4. Try frying your squirrel in garlic. squirrel and garlic go really well.
  5. i use eley subs. Cannot fault them at all, and i shoot a lot.
  6. Thanks for all your help boys. My Lee reloading equipment came this morning. it will be next month before i buy anything else but im happy the gear came. Big thanks to woz on here. He gave me a ring for a "reloading chat" and pointed me in the right direction for my gear. Cheers bud If anyone has a book or dvd on reloading they want to sell cheap please let me know. Otherwise i will be going to the library this week for one. Watch this space!! trappa
  7. I think youve done the right thing in getting rid. I would love one of these but ive more chance of getting a wank off the pope than the police giving me a space for one on my cert. With hindsight it would have been wiser to have kept shtum , done your homework and kept it at home, no-one would have knew but you and it would be a great piece of history on the mantlepiece, but because you owned up to having one on a public forum, plod would have cottoned on soon (even your force!!) and 5 years compulsory porridge is just not worth it. Youve done the right thing mate
  8. Cheers hannah. That makes sense . I will give it a go !! I will try anything as the car stinks!
  9. No, first time he was in a car was when we got him and he wont associate it with bad things as we only go in car for rabbiting and mole trapping, both of which he loves. Might try feeding him up there whilst its idling
  10. I got a pointer for myself at christmas and have been so pleased with him its unreal. He fetches, he points and only 4 months old. Couldnt ask for more really on the work side BUT he is travel sick. He has always chucked up in the back whenever i take him out. I alleviated this by not giving him any brekkie until we got there and it worked to a degree, but he has now started to "drop his guts" the other way! Im not an erratic driver, and the runs are about 20 mins or so. Even short runs of less than 5 mins he can throw up. HELP!!!
  11. Cheers boys! Some great help here. Unless i can get a bargain now i might end up buying half the stuff this month and half next- went to the garage just now for a slow puncture and they said i will need 4 new tyres to pass its mot next month so i bought 2 today for £180 . Thats most of my spare cash gone for this month and it will be a lump of next months too, but im determined to at least make a start and get "some" gear now.
  12. On that site you linked, does the lee reloading delux kit look good?? cheers
  13. Cheers ss. looks a great site that. Woz is going to ask his mate tomorrow for me, but that looks perfect for my needs. many many thanks
  14. Ive decide to commit and get me some reloading gea. I need the lot, including a book to show. If anyone has the gear for sale or a book or both i would be interested. If anyone can advise as to which to get or avoid even would be a help. Thanks boys
  15. Where did you get you reloading gear from please ss. What did you get and at what price?? i need to start reloading and am interested in what you think of the rounds. cheers trappa
  16. Ive just spent much too much on bullets yet again for my .223. Im going to have to seriously think about reloading so will you lot keep your eyes peeled for anyone selling the gear. Im in no rush and not desperate just think its about time i make a start on them. cheers trappa Ps can a mod slip this into the wanted section please (sorry)
  17. Your land sounds perfect for a gos but remember a gos isnt a harris. For every gos flown good and proper there are 10 that arent, the owners cant handle them or simply started to fly them and didnt realise what they were letting themselves in for. If you think your job may change again and/or you dont want the hassle get another harris or a redtail for a change. If your job is now sound and secure, you are a good falconer and can fly her hard nigh-on every day then why not try a gos?
  18. Thanks paul, makes sense that, cheers.
  19. I might be reading this wrong, but it wouldnt be great practise to cast your birds at ducks in water regardless of the waters size. If she is going for anything out of water, but refusing them in water makes sense to me, ive seen birds nearly drown when binding to a fowl in water. Why are you not trying to flush the ducks from the water?? This would be the most sensible and logical thinking. apologies if i have read your thread wrong
  20. When making nets what would be the difference with 2mm and 3mm draw cord (and please no smartarses saying about 1mm please) Im making purse nets but want to know the difference between 2mm and 3mm , which is prefferred and why, and why some is flat nylon braid , some round. Advice /help is most welcome Thanks for any help, trappa ps i know this is the longnetting section but there seem to be more lads on here who make the
  21. I want to buy some sheets of netting to make some nylon purse nets. Where should i look? i cant find a sheet of nylon netting anywhere. any help appreciated. trappa
  22. I started to make my own hemp nets but want to try making nylon nets by cutting up sheets of netting. Anyone know where i can get the sheets from please.
  23. Good luck mate but its a recipe for disaster in my eyes. 1800 acres isnt that much mate from an eagles point of view, and as for munties, again you wont catch them regularly in woods. If you are flying regularly over just 1800 then there is little chance of roe regularly coming out into the open to be caught. Good luck anyway , hope it all comes good, seriously. (you might need to find out whether hunting deer with bops is legal in britain first, i dont think it is)
