    The light from those screens is a real drag. You turn it off after peering at it for 5 minutes and find yourself blind in the dark. Been thinking about getting some of those gel filters in red or green, to fix over the screen and calm it down a bit.

    That is my point, Rez. A bit more accountability, and some basic safety principles could have prevented this. Not such a bad thing? The details of this particular incident are unknown, and I can only imagine whatever chain of events would lead to this boy dying from a pellet wound. Ultimately the person with the most questions to answer is whoever had responsibility for the weapon within that household.

    I always carry 2 head torches. These rechargeable li Batteries don't just go dim when they run low; they die suddenly. If you've not got a phone on you with a torch app, or other means of illumination, you can be pretty screwed. Always have back up.

    I once used manual techniques to remove a live wasp nest from between two bales of hay - the client didn't want her horse fodder contaminated with pesticide. Never again. That was an attack that became very serious indeed.

    I baited some Snap E traps outdoors for rats with peanut butter and found them stripped clean - and I mean not a trace - within 24 hours. Reckon it must have been ants?

    Anyone got any recommendations for PL insurance. I'm just a one man rural pest controller. The premium has now crept above the £200 mark and I'm wondering if this is standard?

    Got a mole job on in a garden on a steep hillside. There are several springs in the area but this one runs all year round and has been piped off to duct it away down hill. There's still a permanent damp patch where it rises and this is where I set a putangue in a very shallow run that seems to come from higher ground. Two weeks on and I've taken 10 moles from this single trap. Quite a little bonanza.

    Seen more hornets than wasps where I am. They are definitely in decline round these parts.
