  1. good compact looking birds very nice
  2. i have no gamefowl now but previously i kept ginger reds and quite a few of my hens were spurred. I miss keeping them a lot but my circumstances have changed and i have not got the space to keep them as i would like. i enjoy looking at the pictures and comments that current owners put up and retain a keen interest . (any pictures albert 64 ?)
  3. i like them gingers the cock has nice bronze tail feathers, do any of your hens come spurred ?
  4. yes i remember the series well it was essential viewing for me fascinating to see and hear how these large kitchen gardens were run ,a snapshot of a bygone age and sad to hear that its gone to ruin .
  5. i just bought a dog of the local blacksmith ,as soon as I got him home he made a bolt for the door .
  6. i have a yen to keep gamefowl again but as i have neighbours now i think that the oxfords that i used to keep would be to noisy , my question is are the Asian fowl I;m particularly thinking of the ko shamo any less noisy ?
  7. yep weils disease and liver fluke how have i managed to live this long . it was lovely and fresh peppery the trick is not to be shy with it put a good lot on a sandwich with a bit of nice cheddar .

  9. if the Scottish people truly want independence from Britain then of course they should have it , but the decision whichever way it goes has to stand for a reasonable period of time (a generation) . we can't have the nationalists coming out of the woodwork every time that they perceive a moment of vulnerability . its very divisive and not fair to the English or Scottish people .Personally I feel that we would all be better sticking together, but at the end of the day it is up to the people of Scotland to tell the politicians that they want to stick to the results of any vote which they may take
  10. it's surprising how the most unlikely bred dogs can shock you with their latent hunting instinct , they can't perform like a purpose bred dog of course but it is often there .
  11. that's what you want to see in a rugby match two good teams going at it ,a great game well done to both sides
  12. the farm in question was up in the moorlands shallow soil about 12'' it had been plastered with manure the year before which i assume boosted the worm population hence the influx of moles, I was using the traps that the farmer had the scissor type maybe I would have been better with a different sort of trap .
  13. this is a question for the professional trappers amongst us ,roughly what percentage of the traps that you set catch a mole . I've had reasonable success in my and other peoples gardens but was once asked to do some trapping for a farmer who had been struggling to catch in his traps , I set off with confidence that I would make a dent in the mole population and failed spectacularly I couldn't catch a one ,there were molehills everywhere but I just couldn't catch the little buggers .
  14. two nice dogs i particularly like the bedlington type .
  15. i'm not bleating it's just an opinion ,Italy were smart to come up with the tactic but it's just not the way i like to see the game played ,potentially there is some cracking games to come
  16. Eddie Jones was asking world rugby to assist Italy in the week before the match , I think that he genuinely thought that the tactic used was not in the spirit of the game , do rugby fans really believe that it was good for the sport, I don't I want to see a team compete physically to the best of their ability with pride , if they lose at least they gave their all and can hold their heads high.
  17. that sounds idyllic make sure that you enjoy it
  18. that looks a treat peadair have you got a good sized plot around it ?
  19. i've been reading through this forum and find myself becoming intrigued by the improvements in the modern tubes / bands used , as a lad we would cut a fork from any suitable wood cut up a bike innertube and cut the tongue out of an old boot to fashion our cattys , as we got a bit older we found a hardware shop that sold square section rubber that was cut off a roll that hung on the back of the shop door , a great improvement to us . i'm now thinking of cutting myself a fork and trying my hand at making something a bit more refined using the modern products ,with a thought to carrying it in my
  20. that's really good a post that lifts your spirits , I wish him all the best .
  21. i'm getting heartily sick of celebrities who seem to think that they are politicians , I know that everyone has a right to their opinion but I can do without the likes of lineker and Madonna spouting their views in the media as if they think that they have more influence than the people that have been elected . rant over
  22. have some respect boys she was someones daughter sister loved family member , there's a lot worse people in the world save your insults for them who deserve it
  23. those are great photo's of a stunning type of owl , reminds me of when I used to fish the river great ouse near renhold in Bedfordshire we used to see them in the evenings hunting the rivers bank and the water meadows, I mainly see short eared owls now in the moorlands of north Staffordshire .
  24. I recently moved back to the village that I lived in until I was 19 , during my early teenage years I owned a small lurcher bought from a pet shop as a staff bull cross , I don't think that it had ever seen a bull terrier its legs grew and it became a brindle strong whippet type lurcher. Almost every evening I would walk up the village with my dog often on the way I would be joined by two other dogs a corgi x alsation about a yard long and 12 inches high and a stocky little jack Russell ,with these dogs in tow I would head off to the hillside above the village a mixture of rough grazing thorn
