Getting near the end for me after this jolly
beany01 replied to beany01's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Cheers. Yeah, I think every session being different helps keep the interest. These times when things dont go to plan are the ones you remember. -
Well today was a session I wont be forgetting in a while. I thought I would give my local golf course another go this morning, after having a look around in the snow yesterday for warrens. There seems to be plenty of warrens about the place, but a majority seem to be empty, unlike years ago, where the place was alive with rabbits. Ive only had this permission for 6 weeks, and it seems to be much more of a struggle than doing paddocks/agricultural land which im used to. All the small patches of gorse that has holes in them dont seem to hold anything, but the big expanses have a few, but they ar

This is just my opinion and nothing else, but I would wait a few months and get two jill kits at 8 weeks or so old. I feed my ferrets mainly on minced chicken carcass, liver and hearts, with the odd bit of rabbit. The reason I dont feed more rabbit it because they like to hide it. Its like playing hide and seek after a day or so looking for the remnants of a manky piece of rabbit. It gets on my tits to be honest. I get minced carcass from the local butcher for £1 a kg, which is nothing. This also provides them with a good bone content without them hiding anything. I then feed all the he

there are vets around with common sense that will just put the bottle in the fridge again, like they have been doing for decades. i had two done and it was 34 quid including consultancy fee.

When i looked at the symptoms I thought bloody hell, this doesnt look good. Luckily it kept eating and didnt lose much weight, just the bulk on the back end where it wasnt using the muscles properly. I will admit, I didnt want to cull something I had put endless amounts of hours in to. I had been handling them an hour or two each day, so they were all good to handle. Ok, they still mouth my fingers now and then when they get let out in the run in the morning, but thats when they are super excited and bouncing around like mad, but thats kits for you. Normally I just say no, and they pack it in

Hello, I got 3 kits in August (thanks Samuria) and after a few weeks one of them went weak on the back end. Its back end kept falling over, and when it moved, it would hop like a rabbit, not walking its back legs. I spoke to a couple of blokes I know who have had ferrets for many years, and they all said I should knock it on the head. Well it didnt appear to be in any pain, and it still played around with the other two kits, albeit not as vigorously. The vets in the area dont really know ferrets that well, mine are the only ones on their books, so I did a little reading, and it could have been

You cant leave ferrets for a week without anyone checking on them. If anything went wrong, what it probably will, you will have a couple of dead ferrets.

I used it and find it really good for getting rid of ear mites and ticks.

If you search on Google, they do mention slugs can be hosts to lungworm. Dogs and ferrets can be infected if they then eat the slugs

I would rather he lay down with dogs and get rabies! -
my kits have been going nuts the last 3 days. I have been handling them several times a day, but lately Ive had to let them run around the court for an hour so they calm down first. If I dont, they just want to play fight each, and we all know they get a little toothy when they do that!

I've done it on a few ferret pages, he has deleted himself from the one he was selling the mk3m on -
Hello all, I saw a mk3m and two collars on a Facebook ferret selling page. I messaged the bloke and said I would have them. Being a little too trustworthy I transferred the money and postage to his bank account. He said his Mrs would post them on the 14th, I then messaged him to say they haven't arrived and he replied he has been working 12 hour shifts and his Mrs would post them on the 18th. Still nothing has arrived and he has blocked me on Facebook today. Sounds like I've been stuffed. I never normally just do a bank transfer, but this time I gave benefit of the doubt. Well that's me out of

Hello, well in the last Hour or so I have made up 2 x 10 yard and a 30 yard quick set longnet. I can see why net riggers like making these up, they are a doddle compared to rigging herring and Mack nets. Just one Gill on a herring net is 240 knots. The one thing I dont like about these is all the knots are supposed to be clove hitches, like around the grommets, and with a nylon braid, they don't seem to bite particularly well, so each end pole I attached them with 4 turn grinner knots, which work very well with nylon. The intermediate poles still have clove hitches but while moving them about

I got three kits Monday night, and I'm getting them used to my hands. As they are only 8 weeks, when I stroke them and tickle their bellies, they are all teeth. It doesn't hurt at all as they are so small, but as they nip, gently put your finger in their mouths on their tongue, they don't like the sensation, and after several times times they ease off nipping. Obviously don't be rough, as they are only small. It's easier to put them off nipping when it doesn't hurt and are small, then a couple of months down the line when they have grown an awful lot and start getting more power in their bite

I went to see Samuria Monday night to pick up 2 albino Jill kits, after his hob vas failed. All I can say was what a friendly, genuine bloke. Nice to see people still about like this. We had a good yarn and showed me his cracking ferrets. They were a lovely looking, longer, more slender ferret than the two Jill's I currently have, so they should squeeze through the nets easier. He showed me the first two Jill's and they looked crackers, so they went straight in the box, then he got out out another, slightly smaller Jill with more of a peach colour to it, unfortunately I couldnt resist and she

I did look in to the alternatives. I've found Jill jabs seem to make them a little despressed, as it wears off, they perk up a lot. I did think of getting a vas hob, but I don't want the issues Samuria has just had, and also if the vas hob tries shagging them all half to death, I would have to separate him, which is more hassle when you have a court

Well I've only used two vets for the ferrets, after getting reasonable quotes. Knotts yard in Watton and Caister vets, at Caister on sea. Both have been very good. I've only had jabs and the implants though. I know Caister vets will do the snip, but I don't know about Watton

Your stuck between a rock and a hard place. They can say what they like and you have to accept it because you can't prove otherwise. It would annoy anyone because you paid to have a service, and it didn't work in the long term, so you feel like you have been robbed. I personally would go somewhere else if there is a vet that is good with ferrets. I would rather put my money in someone else's pocket after getting a service like this, you would have thought if you were a long time customer, they would do the op again half price or free as a goodwill jesture. To make you feel a little better,

Lovely looking kits

How successful is the snip? I've heard a lot of stories where it failed initially, and also the hobs taking the Jill's out, but the next year being on both barrels again!

How about thinning down some grp resin and painting the floor? Should pull in the concrete nicely and won't be poisonous once cured

Hello, has anyone got 2 albino Jill kits spare in Norfolk/Suffolk area? I would rather get them off here from a working line than risk it with some pets off preloved/gumtree etc. Cheers Beany
