  1. The dogs mostly laying mines and me clearing them, other than that trying to go on a few runs with him it seems I'm the one getting out of shape ?, wish I had lurcher genetics. Whoever invents sugar free beer will make a few Bob.
  2. Cheers Both books are now ordered, just need some tea and biscuits. Only problem is, it makes you want the season to come quicker.
  3. I'll give it a whirl, its well priced. Cheers
  4. Has anybody read any of his other books? I fancy reading the poachers companion and the English whippet.
  5. Just finished reading lurchers and longdogs by E.G. Walsh, very good read, has a bit of history, training, feeding and some good stories, first published 1977, also got Rebecca the lurcher from same shop but its not keeping my interest as well.
  6. Yeh just doing that now.......Hang about!!?
  7. Get in there!! Don't muck about when there's beans at stake
  8. Would love to have been around when deerhound blood was more common, but I wonder how long till its not mentioned in lurcher breeding anymore due to absence or little of.
  9. Cheers, He's not to bad, does well on lamp and great family dog you can take anywhere.
  10. This big dope has a smidge of deerhound, bull, collie and a fair bit of grey and whippet, similar age.
  11. Thats some good plaster work. Gonna have a practice on one of his good nails, Harrogate area holds the moisture in the ground, so its always gonna be an issue.
  12. He's got the biggest feet aswell, i thought he would be exempt foot issues
  13. Probably a good shout, i know people who have used it to prevent blisters and toughen feet
  14. I have not long been using a nail grinder (awesome bit of kit)so starting to get them right down. I had a whippet that had black nails and caught her quik a couple of times, after that she used to try to do 30mph on her back when i got the clippers out.
  15. Just checked out camrosa, cheers Had mixed reviews, but it give me an idea to maybe use some pad hardener. Cheers Cgreen, nails are a biggie, i think im gonna keep his nails as short as possible, ive also found that mud finds its way into his nail beds thats why i always hose his feet afterwards maybe. I reckon my dog barely sees a path so some road walking is probably due, we use every other kind of terrain but I have big fields a stones throw away which he is always walked on and then hes driven to hunting grounds
  16. I have noticed my dogs outer toes take a lot of punishment when turning on big runs, i always hose his feet when i get back from all runs and use salt water when the nail beds take any damage, does anybody use anything to avoid the damage or use any treatments, i dont mind him taking a few days out now and then but it would be less work for his tongue on his toes. Big speed and tight turns take its toll so any advice appreciated.
  17. I only lamp my lurcher and i have seen him put the brakes on because of hedges and miss rabbits due to this, i kept lamping him and he has over come this issue, a lot of his strikes are near the hedge and he has built confidence and awareness, i wouldn't day he was picking his runs, just learning field obstacles. If you want a dog that goes full tilt into obstacle and not have progressive experience, then be prepared to own a lot of dogs.
  18. http://www.vets4pets.com/stop-alabama-rot/ This site shows locations of confirmed cases. Not sure accurate it is tho. Good luck with dogs
  19. Get in their, don't ask you don't get lol. Can anyone lend me a hundred rabbits.

  21. http://webcanine.com/2013/the-functional-saluki-lessons-from-the-coursing-field/ By Dan Belkin Thought it was a good read so thought i would share.
  22. No harm scrambling a wall, Never know what's on the other side, experience will come with what to clear, sometimes with a nudge. My lad only does walls anyway, I prefer him like that to be honest. atb
  23. Some puppies are nasty, wouldn't worry about it they will grow out of it, give it a verbal if you catch it and keep it off the ground as soon as possible to take away the temptation. Its just crap, look forward to him rubbing in fox crap and eating dead birds
