  1. Currently in my mind my options are - saluki/grey coursing dog fast type collie/grey fast type bull/grey
  2. What he needs is a dog like yours ken, runs the flint every day and never gets cut. Super dog lol
  3. Yes that’s the one. Not a bad thought using something like that, saluki/bull type back over the bull x.
  4. Looks a very smart bitch. Thing is I’m toying with the idea of breeding my bitch at some point, maybe a year off maybe two. I like her a lot, but would like to add a bit more wind, improve her feet a bit and maybe a bit more too end. And would be happy if I ended up with a pup that made an inch or so bigger. However, I really don’t want to lose her drive, hardness, strength, bone is etc and don’t want to end up with anything smaller or much lighter built, it wouldn’t suit for what I do with her.
  5. That picture he could be his sire for sure.
  6. Scents better that’s why
  7. Anyone in here running a dog bred half x bull grey to top coursing dog? What kind of height, weight, stamp etc? Also anyone on here bred a litter same way and how much variation in the pups? Did many throw lighter and very saluki like? Any photos would be good.
  8. You might be a weirdo, but she's still one of the best dogs I've seen. Got to be luck though.
  9. For a whippet, Finn was a fair lump, around 22" and usually running at 18 kilos. In his time, he killed foxes, mink, caught deer, lamped and ferreted many rabbits and ran the odd hare. He nailed pheasants, one pigeon, did a bit of ratting and was my best mate. Its the only litter he ever sired, and i'm very glad that his blood is out there and being enjoyed.
  10. That's probably the best eulogy a dog could have. Nige sounds very much like his sire!
  11. One and she took to the hunting part well. Not catching, just following her nose. Ever since, she has been into it. Will run the lamp, or at least the headlights of the truck / quad mostly, but I've taken her lamping a couple of times, just for a few runs. She will catch rabbits. Down side, is she's a complete liability with bloody deer, which is embarrassing when you work on large country estates for a living.
  12. Ive done a little bit of this. . . . Not sure there is a best type, its more about how they are brought up and on and what kind of mindset they have. Personally have always enjoyed working with lurcher x lurcher types, generally collie/bull/grey type things. As my matey has said above, there is a big difference between a dog that can hunt something thats there, i.e follow a line etc, and do that for miles, and a dog that can hunt to look for that line, and cast about the hill for miles and miles. Id have done a lot, lot more in the forest than on the hill. At one time we w
  13. How’s that black and white dog bred? And how fast is he? What’s his wind like? Do you lamp him much? Looks a real good type.
  14. Once upon a time those pups would have been perfect for what I did! Be real interesting to see them grow!
  15. The older one is about 1/8-1/4 bull and rest sal /grey / collie. The other is just shy of a half x toward the greyhound.
  16. Yer I think I may breed a litter in the future. I would usually source a pup but I know my own dogs now. With all of their faults. Got two bitches to choose from, the younger one has done less, but that will change, but I worry she may not be around forever, she runs with zero regard for her well being..... so yes probably breed the white bitch in a year or two.
  17. That’s a smart dog. Be good to see him matured and fit.
  18. How quick is he and how much wind? Looks strong. What way was he bred?
  19. Now then, I’m looking for someone who runs an athletic bull x dog, around 27 inches. Fast, good feet, good wind? Capable of long runs on some big ground. Does anyone run a dog or line of dogs like this? Or do they all have saluki in them? Or similar. Also, same question but with a bit of collie? Just thinking to the future, on the ground I run and what’s in my kennels and what the next generation might be. SC
  20. Yes I did! I get quite a few reports from the old country lol
  21. Saddest thing about boar is the utter utter morons it attracts. They bugger up all of the good ground. Latest one I’ve heard is my old stomping ground being mega hot, full of police and cameras..... because some muppets with dogs have been shooting them with cross bows and letting them run off......
  22. Aye well I can hand on heart say I didn't expect him to do what he managed to in his life. He caught every quarry I tried him on. He was however a massive liability at times, and had a desire to hunt and kill like no other dog I've owned. He was very much his own animal and if he didn't want to go hunting with you or whoever was there he'd just go and do his own thing. He was an embarrassing knob at times. I wanted to strangle him many many times, and i'm not sure if I could have him again I would. But he was the best whippet I've ever seen. And he caught stuff for me on all ty
  23. Really good to hear. The Sire to the pups is unfortunately no longer with us.
