  1. Lots of decent dogs there, but most probably wouldn’t suit the ground I run here, a couple probably would be a good shout.
  2. I keep myself to myself. Go out with about two people and usually on my own. Most of my friends run bitches. One has a rough coated dog I like, it’s a young dog, shaping up well. But worth seeing what else is out there.
  3. This one would throw some pretty pups if nothing else! Welsh collie cur born on moors in Devon.
  4. 11 pages in and despite the awesome THL arguments ..... still not had a suggestion of the kind of hound I’m looking for lol.
  5. I agree. My bitch isn’t a coward. But if suddenly all other quarry evaporated and we only had rabbits to hunt, I’d still run the same bitch, she runs them very well, retrieves live to hand etc They ain’t just one trick pony’s.
  6. I’d love to put some videos up but they are too big. They are good dogs, and I know that might sound arrogant, but it’s like any dog, you get out what you put in. Average flock of sheep in the Uk is 300 sheep, we are running about 6000 breeding ewes at peak time, and some cattle. The dogs are out pretty much seven days a week, and working mobs of up to 2000 head of stock (fattening lambs) regular. Also it just happens that both me and the lad who works for me full time, and both Lurcher men (he keeps earth dogs to), so are a bit prone to flinging them out the truck at other stuff hah
  7. Hampshire but I get about the country.
  8. The sire is the dog I posted above.
  9. I don’t think he was. I think what he was saying is that even a bull x that doesn’t have the typical attributes of a bull x, still has a lot to bring to the table.
  10. I agree! My bitch is pretty much a half x. She has been the easiest to train and most well mannered dog I have owned. Retrieves rabbits live to hand, walks to heal, and various other bits. Great pub dog, good hunting dog, uses her nose etc and just an all round buddy for me.
  11. A fact? Go and have a look around the world and come back and say that .....
  12. Not wanting to get too far into this ...... But ..... of course there will be saluki Xs out there that kill foxes, quite possibly ones that do it regular, and of course some that will do it better and more consistently than some bull x. However to go and buy a coursing bred dog for the specific job of killing foxes regular would be a little daft, as would comparing them to a true foxing bull x for the job in question. Ive seen plenty dogs kill foxes, but a good terrier (bull or wheaten) x fox dog, does it with a straight forward simplicity which makes it pretty much humane disp
  13. Not great photos of him, but I think he would be a good dog to use over a grey.
  14. Haha yes it is I. Never could find my password for the old account after a few years away. I am keeping well, living in the land of the enemy haha. But there is more game down here than you could wish for, so me and the dogs are happy enough! Hope you’re well, it’s good to see that sine if the old guard are still going.
  15. This I do not doubt, I think the blood joins really well with a greyhound and pretty much every kelpie blooded runner I have seen has been a smart and handy beast! I think maybe a part of it, is that fact that the quality of collies has gone down a fair bit. A lot of them have no bottle any more. A lot of people wouldn’t like my collies and find them too grippy, hard and nasty lol. I am not knocking kelpies, just musing on what I’ve seen in my day to day work. And it’s maybe just because I’m comparing them to my own dogs, where there maybe isn’t a whole lot of difference! Edi
  16. In all honesty - and I am not knocking the kelpie at all, I think in most cases here in the UK the best of the collies would make most of the kelpies about look average. There isn’t much you can do with a kelpie here that you couldn’t do with a collie. In my honest opinion it’s mainly due to the desire for something different and especially something from down under. Having said that, there are a hell of a lot of average collies being bred, so I think some people go for a Kelpie in the hope of getting something a bit more raw. The reason for the kelpie x collies is probably beca
  17. Sometimes it feels like it, and sometimes not so much haha!
  18. Re banging dog’s feet up. I have had a variety of folk here, with a variety of dogs, and on some ground (which we don’t bother running any more), pretty much every type has gone home limping. Any dog that hits some of the flint here wrong will cut its feet, that’s a fact. On other ground, it’s probably as much or more to do with the individual dog, it’s running style and just how well those feet are built. For the record I see hares every single day, and night. Other than as a bit of exercise for the dogs, I’m not overly interested in them. Fully respect the dogs and me
  19. Currently no guard dogs or terriers. Was recently looking at a guard dog, as we had a big yard which was secure, and had kit in it, but was away from the house, and we’d had break ins there. A free roaming menace would have been good. But the owners sold that farm and yard for development so the guard dog never happened. Most of where we have yards there are too many civilians and soft eyes around. Hoping to maybe add a terrier in the near future, but all of my friends have plenty and lad who works for me keeps digging dogs and lives on the farm here, so we are never short a terrier.
  20. There’s a whole pile of collies here mate. I’ve got two border collies, a welsh collie, a welsh x border and a kelpie x border. The welshie is a dog (he’s the red one in the photo) and all the rest are bitches. Lad who works for me has four borders (two of which belong to me also). They have varying interest in hunting. Most of them like a bit of ratting / rabbiting. But some of them are much more keen and have accounted for a fair variety of game whilst at work. My oldest bitch comes mooching, tags a long ferreting, comes beating with me etc and has an unhealthy obsession with
  21. Very true. It’s also true that there is just a lot of shit kept in every working breed. And although some things will suit some folk and not others..... some dogs are just poor at their jobs. With the vast majority of poor stock dogs, it’s down to training and handling.
