What dogs everyone running this coming season
Igz replied to Floyd17586's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Yeah the big dogs been a great dog for me so hoping the young gun carries on as he was and that him running home was just one of them things I’ll always look back on and wander why. Was down your sort of way this weekend. Never had the muts but was at a friends families in Tredegar Cornwall. Them big open fields look very inviting to me and would love to see the big dog run on something like that as that’s when I think he’d be at his best once’s he’s opened up. Not the biggest fields round by us but when we do travel out a bit he seems to do well on the bigger land but what I’ve been seeing do -

He’s all good mate and nothing since that last time with him. Think he just pushing his luck. It was just he done it twice within 10 days I had to ask myself the question but I’ve been going to other spots mainly where there a bit more land to burn his energy and a few scents around to chase. Fingers crossed it stays that way as I was more than happy with him when the season finished. Done most of the tasks he will be fronted with in seasons to come and all by 15 months on his own so I have high hopes. Big dog knows it’s summer and reserves his energy a bit more but he knows the score and sur -

Nice shape to her now mate, looks well ? -
I’m terrible with slips and my little tool go through a good few a season. Lost my mates car key once. Lucky to find it we was. Now I zip them in a pocket and make sure I don’t open that zip till back at car

Just realised the top two are actually leads

Cracker mate ??

Dogs for different jobs but they all get out regular ?

A bitch down at my mates house/yard. He had a few people mooching around one night and it put the shits up his mrs so he decided to invest in a guard. She can’t run loose in day while people are around but once afternoon comes she’s let free to roam and I deffinatley wouldn’t be one to enter if she was loose. Penda bred this bitch it’s litter sister to his bitch and his bitch also does a good job and wouldn’t enter his back yard without him either

Just been ignorant mate we’ve been out every day since and not a problem. Been back to golf course twice in that time and no problems. Last thing I would want to do was get rid of this dog as he’s done me proud since having him and if you look at any other comments I’ve wrote of him in the past has all been positive. I was always going to keep trying with him I was just asking what others thought as for him to just do that out the blue is obviously not normal. But I also couldn’t work a dog if he was going to keep running off whenever he feels like it. I think he just wants to hunt, last seaso

Some are mate I got a bitch done last week just had to hand pup over at door and waited outside Atb Igz

??. Sounded like my head had fell off when I spoke to you on phone ?. I thought I’d done a good job with him and I wasn’t ready to see him fail. It had been a long day for me. Wouldn’t give up on him easily although I could have that night at the time. We’ve seen him graft so be a shame if he spoiled himself on stupid things ?

Had him out again today for few hours and not a put a foot wrong again. Coming straight back soon as I call or whistle it’s just them two occasions with around 10-12 day gap but nothing in between them occasions so I’ll just keep getting him out and see what happens. We go somewhere else now, keeps him more active and deffo burns a bit more energy off. Think he may just have been trying it on as I’ve had no issues with him since a pup. He doesn’t retrieve rabbits but will retrieve anything if I’m playing in garden or out and about he just stands over them once caught and killed but that’s what

In what way do you mean it could be me that’s the problem and what’s happening at home ?
-
Well all’s gone ok today, like I said he not like it constantly only on them two occasions and like Morton’s said it maybe the tone of voice as we went out earlier on bike then just got in now from 3 hours out and not a problem. Straight off the lead from out my van onto a patch they know quite well but we not been there for a couple of months. A lots grew up but he’s run the legs off himself. Normally still flying round the garden when we get back but tonight straight in kennel and waited for food to be dropped in. Called or whistled him in a good 10 times on that walk and straight in every t

Let him out this morning with other dog as no one in garden upto anything so straight upto me like nothing happend. His usual 6 laps round the garden . Just taken him for run. My son running me on the bike and done about 7k let him off in places and fine even when he stopped for a little mooch whenever I called well infact just a little whistle as that’s normally all it takes. I’m wandering also if it’s just sound of my voice when he frustrating me as like I say normally good and a whistle is all it takes but these times he’s completely blanked me I suppose I’ve had a growl to my tone as after

Ffs mate I’d find that quite easy with the mrs but not my dogs ?. That’s what I’ve done both times when I’ve got back from him doing it just closed kennel and locked it. Didn’t go back out there and feed him till half 11 last night and normally fed soon as back just to try let him know.

Think you may be right and just him trying it with his age. Like my pal said to me he’s at that stage where he trying it on. Normally I never bump into many people spots I go but it’s just since this lockdown. Think I’ll try him on a lead over next few weeks and see what happens. Like I say it’s weird as after the first time he done it we were back out doing the same walk for 10-12 days before he done it again and no signs of anything. Oh well wel see what happens over time. I’ll be gutted if it doesn’t work out as towards end of season he showed good signs. Like you say I’ll put the gps on ju

Had thought he may just be board mate. Even on daytime mooches summer or not he used to seeing bits letting out frustration but it’s either high everywhere or I’m weary of going on certain local walks as I know how many people about and plenty of munty round by me and some places you can’t avoid them and we don’t want any accidents when I’ve got the local ramblers walking towards me. Never see a soul in these spots normally but it’s a nightmare lately. Think I’ll just get in truck tonmorow then he won’t know how to get home and if he start s to run back to motor then I know he f****d it ?. Too

It’s me who he shows all the attention to at home though if it was my big dog I’d say yes maybe the kids but they have enough of the dogs after 20 mins anyway but our bonds good I’ll lye on grass it’s me who hel come to. Lye with or on me and just chill trying to dig his head into all these tight spots under my arms tucking his head in so I know it’s not the bond and know he knows he doesn’t need to be scared of me but you could be right but the time we go he also knows he be going back to go in his kennel as it will be around 9 and dark ?

He out in kennel mate with my other runner. They in same kennel but that’s how they like it they do have there own beds and runs but always used to get in together so left it at that. No I wouldn’t say I’m his centre of attention as I’ll see them morning he can be left for few hours or all day before I see him next. Lately probably a bit more attention as we’re out in garden so I’ll let them out to chill with us. He does have lots of energy but like I say if there a day I don’t walk them I feel bad which not very often so I’ll be up early next morning to take them. He knows his place at home a
