  1. Well seeing as everyone is at it, here's of of me on a recent job. Spud
  2. Sounder, Haven't been able to get online for a while so only saw your post now. If there is damage being done you should be able to get a section 42 now without too much hassle. One of the farms I stalk on has had a few stags hitting it over month of Feb. Farmer put in for section42 and it was issued within 5 working days. Issued on 27th Feb and valid till end of April. Got a big stag on the ground a few days after it was issued so farmer pretty happy. Think you can download blank section 42's off the wildlife service site. Spud
  3. have been making homebrew ale and larger for about a year now. Had my first go at cider last autumn. You can make "turbo cider" in about a week from apple juice and yeast but I made the real stuff from my own apples. Found it hard to find info on it. It seems you can add sugar to make the process quicker or if you rely on the natural sugars in the apples it will take all winter and into spring to ferment. I went for the slower traditional approach but hedged my bets by adding a sachet of cider yeast. It looked like apple sauce for months but over christmas it cleared up relly well. Once the we
  4. Have been watching them alright. Was a bit dubious at the start thinking it might be the usual hyped up for armchair-soldier crap but have to say I think he did a good job. Have some very close mates who are bootnecks and SBS heading back out there for their 3rd stint in a few months. Must be pretty hard for uk lads to go home after that and see chavs standing around on street corners scabbing off your state on the dole. Spud
  5. I'm considering buying a Land Rover 110 single cab pick-up and would appreciate any advice or comments from those with experience of them. I don't generally carry heavy loads but a lwb pick-up really appeals to me as i'm generally carrying wet fishy smelly salty gear in the back of my van at the moment and also deer during the season. It would be used as my sole vehicle covering about 500 motorway miles a week and some light offroad stuff in the course of work. I'd probably be looking at a TD5 and a clean enough body. I'm wondering how they handle when the back is empty and are there big dif

    Bio Diesel

What modifications did you need to make to your engine? Do you use "clean" veggie oil or used stuff from a chippy? Spud

    Bio Diesel

I'm starting to look into this myself as i'm considering getting a Land Rover 110 pick-up and running on biodiesel would make it a more realistic proposition financially! My understanding of it is that most older diesel engines can run on a mix of normal diesel and vegetable oil with no modification to the engine, i've heard that 30% vegetable oil seems to have no adverse affect on the engine. To run on pure vegetable oil i think requires a few changes to your engine. Also to use waste oil from your local chippy you need to process the oil before use to remove impurities and bits of cod. You
  8. Good on ye Stubby. Look forward to seeing how they work out for you
  9. Nice looking bitch you have there Looks in good condition. Considering a GWP myself so will watch with interest how she works out for you. Spud
  10. Good shooting that man! Lovely phots too. Shot a Red hind on saturday morning myself but it was in the slush that we call snow over here not the lovely stuff in your phots! Still feels great to have a successful stalk in harder weather. Spud
  11. I started homebrewing around the start of last summer. Have brewed a couple of lagers a pilsner a few pale ales a real ale and 30litres of red wine. The missus got jealous looking at me tearing into my lovely cheaply made booze so has started making white wine for herself too! I don't use any heaters at all, just put the plastic bins in the house as most yeasts work best between 16 and 24degrees. In fact a higher fermenting temperature will result in some pretty nasty flavours in your beer. The first batch i made was one of the cheaper single tin kits that you add a kilo of sugar to. I have
  12. Good on ye Bryan Got the text from Countryside Alliance Ireland and just voted now, it was at 72% no to a ban.
  13. 6.5x55 Lapua 155grain for big reds!
  14. Slight "roll" as you walk in them first time on hard ground/roads alright but soon get used to it. Only drawbacks I can think of so far are that they might be too warm in the summer and as the neoprene tops don't have a rubber outer they are more vulnerable to barbed wire but any nicks can be sorted with a dab of "Aquasure" neoprene glue.
  15. Nice to see lads in the job willing to offer advice and suggested prices as opposed to usual b#llocks in most industries where new guys are told f#ck all. Just wondering what sort of rates you charge in uk for feral pigeons and rabbits are?? Spud
  16. Have to agree re Muck Boots. Got myself a pair a month or two back and they're the dog's b#llocks. Very warm and so so comfy, use them for everything, lamping deerstalking, the lot. At the moment it's them, pair of deerhunter trousers and a Snugpak jacket with a Helly Hansen thermal underneath, toasty. Spud
  17. Yeah the farmer was telling me he had lost lambs last year so was well pleased to hear there's one less. Will concentate on taking a few more deer then get stuck into foxes after season ends.
  18. Nobody heard anything about these??
  19. Was out stalking this morning. Saw 2 hinds and a calf, stalked to within 50yrds but couldn't get a safe shot as they were walking along skyline and crossed off my permission. Had seen this fox on the way up but didn't want to shoot and spook deer. Dropped him on my way back down, first fox with the 6.5x55 Spud
  20. Nice pics, looks like the dogs are loving it!
  21. Just back from a quick lamp with the dog. Cold but no snow yet here, one or two flakes as i headed out but stopped at that. No wind either but caught one bunny
