crayfish trapping
food for free replied to food for free's topic in Living Off The Land & Game Cooking
yeah i have purchased a couple before but lost them, just fancied trying my hand at making one or two. -
ive been toying with the idea of getting a couple of hens for a good few years now. Only thing is the area i live in is not that rural. Its quite quiet in the garden (old victorian with high old walls). I would guess at 20ft square. Do you think its feasible to keep a couple of hens. How much space do you guys allocate to your hens. Cheers

Does anyone have any info or ideas on making a home made crayfish trap. I think i will be able to put it to good use in the coming weeks. Ideally it would be cheap and portable i.e quite small. I have pondered on the idea of a large pop bottle with the end cut off with the screw top enlarged and inserted back inside the bottle and a load of holes in it.....if you get the idea. Any help appreciated Cheers

We were just about ready to give them a go at the rabbits as well. i still have my two and his one will make a decent team still. Does anyone have a youngish jill they want re homing to keep the other company. We are in the north east area and can travel. If not does anyone know of any ferret resue centre where he can pick one up. If so what are the details. Cheers

right then. Went to the gun shop this morning and picked up a new breach seal for £1.50. When i removed the old one it came out in bits, the plastic was totally corroded. Took a while to get all the bits out. I then had a few shots the same as yesterday into the wax. Amazed with the results. Pellets are certainly not bouncing off anymore, sinking well in. The pic shows the original three shots before the seal was changed and the the three after. What a difference. I then proceeded to strip the gun down. cleaned a lot of grease and grit from spring and mechand put it back together. On

ha ha aye as i say tho my uncle got it there a few years back now iam guessing its a mk1 or 2 as its that old, he says its older than me so thats going back 30 odd years. yeah i think the rear sight is on the barrel as thats where its drilled but as you can see the rear sight is missing. will let you know how i get on with the stripping down and new seal tomorrow. Been firing it today and it seems to be falling quite low, plus the power seems low, i was hitting a wax candle today and from about 10 yards they were only putting a 5mm dent in it and bouncing off, pellets were quite flattened
-
cheers should be able to give it a go tomorrow. Hopefully my local gunshop should have a o ring seal for the meteor in when i go tomorrow. Naa i dont think the stock has been stripped, my uncle got the gunb from wolworths around 30 years ago. he hasnt said anything about stripping it in the past and it still has the teeth marks in on the butt where his first springer pup chowed it...lol
-
champion....... whats the damage for a new one? a couple of quid? Had a good look at it today. How do you get the spring out? do you remove the large diameter pin in the end?
-
here are some pics of it in its current state. is the washer/seal which is shown in the two pics with the barrel broken, the main seal in the system. It looks pretty buggered like. how do i go about removing and replacing this. Forgive my ignorance i am more used to the shotgun, i ve just acquired this as a project and maybe to nail some rabbits.
-
nice one got any pics of them? Iam planning to get it checked out first though to make sure its worth doing the stock. It needs a good overhaul
-
as you may have read i am refurbishing am old BSA meteor. I am considering making a new up to date stock probarbly a plywood laminate, as this appears to be the easiest option for my first attempt. Before i start this i need to confirm the integrity of the mechanisms. I am going to strip it down and give it a good clean (the gun is at least 20 years old). I have received a good link with details of how to give it a good clean but how do i know if a new spring is required? and what are the other main things to look out for. when i do the stock i will put some pics up cheers.
-
aye nice one i never thought about laminating but this may be the best route. I might possibly give that a go.
-
ha ha, what a coincidence. I am going to do a few more searches looking for anything on the net relating to the stock. What are the basic things i need to do to re tune the mechanisms? Its a rellly old model so would i need to replace the spring and seals etc? Any info would be appreciated as i have never done this before. Cheers
-
also how do i go about overhauling it
-
ive just been given an old bsa meteor, the stock is terrible, it a very light colour. Thought about stripping it down and oiling it but just had a thought about making a completely new stock as i have a nice piece of mahogony or see what else i can get my hands on. Has anyone attempted this before. Where could i get some sort of template etc I think with a little time and effort i could do a canny job... Cheers

'An excellent break barrel rifle in the famous Diana range. With its precision scope rail and around 10ft/lb pressure. This model an excellent ambidextrous wood stock making it an ideal all-rounder' .. Just found this. Still as you say i will get it checked out on the chrono
-
cheers for that. I have done a little research and my understanding is that it may be slightly on the lower power side but all accounts point to them being a pretty accurate little gun. but as you say i think i will take it to my local gun smioth and get it checked on the chrono.

Ok i have just taken charge of a diana model 24..... Has anyone got any info or advice? Cheers
