  2. waste of time dogs have an unsacculated colon and can not digest vegetable matter, if you want to feed it the best way is to cadge trimmings from your local greengrocer boil them in a pan of water and use the cooking water when cooled use as your dogs drinking water or add to food btbh dogs have no requirement for any "greenmatter"
  3. he can be abit agressive more so as hes got older kizzy both sides in the breeding might be something to do with that Mine are the same, interestingly in a book I read called "Owned by an Eagle" the author has a Saluki he import back with him from Africa and it has the very same attitude that mine and I believe yours to also have towards strange and unknown dogs. Of course this is typical of all primitive dogs but you have to wonder whether this was encouraged and select for in certain parts of there COO perhaps in regions where they used for hunting
  4. the tiablo A9 on ebay and aspherical kit ,would still be cheaper than a deben set up..and yes you need batteries..and a charger. atb vin I paid about 55 quid for the torch, lens, 2 batteries and charger. I'm well pleased with mine, it will throw a really tight beam farther than I will ever need as I walk scrubland rather than big fields. I'm no expert but would guess it wouldn't suit everyone, but it will light rabbits up easily at 50 yards and I can fit torch and spare batteries in one pocket Tom. were did you buy from Tom? i just got a price of £70+ for torch-
  5. my main concern would be replenishing glycogen, i use maltadexrin during heavy work and post work copied from Energy and the Working Dog - Carbohydrates are stored in muscle as glycogen. Muscle uses glycogen during the initial moments of activity and for bursts of speed and power (primarily fueling fast twitch fibers). Glycogen stores are relatively small and can be rapidly depleted leading to muscle weakness and fatigue. However, diets high in carbohydrates can lead to deconditioning (poor endurance, obesity, muscle injury). For a working dog, carbohydrates should be limit

  7. not very encouraging to be offering management performance and mentoring and you have mispelt "business"
  8. Working dogs are truly premier canine athletes. As such, one should pay close attention to meeting their energy needs. There are 3 sources of energy… fats, carbohydrates and proteins. Understanding how the working dog utilizes energy and how best to balance these energy stores can result in a more responsive partner that is less prone to physical injury. Fats are the most energy dense of all the sources providing 70-90% of the energy needed for muscle contraction (primarily fueling slow twitch fibers). In the working dog, 50-65% of total energy in a diet should come from fa

  10. Interesting opinion The BARF diet seems lacking in carbs, its mainly protein and fat. Does a dog need carbs in its diet? I cant think where wild dogs and wolves obtain carbohydrates? taken from an interesting article - Proteins are the building blocks of muscle and should not be a major source of energy. Animal source proteins (chicken, beef, lamb, egg, etc.) are preferred and often offer increased digestibility with a good amino acid balance. Diets low in protein have been associated with increased injuries. A working dog diet should have a minimum 26% protein. F

  15. i use Maltodextrin copied from a website - Replenishing glycogen stores is accomplished by providing a “good carbohydrate†at an appropriate time. Muscle cells have GLUT4 pathways that are active during exercise and for up to 30 minutes after exercise. These pathways allow for the uptake of carbohydrate into the muscle without the release of insulin. Simple sugars (glucose, dextrose, fructose, corn syrup) cause an insulin release that leads to subsequent hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Complex starches (bread, rice, grains) take too long to be digested and absorbed.
