Thanks for the replies.... What fish do you feed ferrets? Do you have to be careful of bones? Raw or cooked? FF

Welcome buddy, Im new to ferreting too, all i can say is this is a brilliant forum with nice people to offer advice and there services, Enjoy your ferrets they are wonderful creatures. If biting is a problem i found a good scuff and drag along the carpet for about a foot is good training, its supposed to mimic the mums behavior. It worked on mine in 3 weeks And if you dont have a collar and locator, you dont need a shovel. Theres some great posts in the ferret forum. FF

Ferreting Using Rubbish Nets,......
Furrosious ferreter replied to foxtails's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Yeah. I need a couple a poke nets for a couple a warrens i do realy. But this is my first season ferreting and only been 3 times, trying to take in and learn as much as posible, the same as my 2 ferrets. I learnt how to make my own nets and they work ok. Just abit time sapping, but feels good. FF -
Ive got a hw97 in .22 short stroke home tuned in a hw77 wood stock with no bear trap (or rattlely bit as i call it). Its took ages to get right, i stripped it down 8 times to get to my liking, putting out 11.2 fpe and has no twang just a thud, and easily puts rabbits down at 40 meters. Is also so pleasent to use. But i havent shot and of the other guns mentioned, i also have a hw 57 which i havent tuned but is also fun to shoot and has only been used on rats. FF

First Time Ferreting...
Furrosious ferreter replied to Furrosious ferreter's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Right then... Had a well earned day off work today, and the misses wanted to go ferreting (wtf). She done the sarnies last night and and was asking all these questions bout ferreting, how do you place a net, how do you use the long net, how do you know if a rabbits home (her words on that one thought it was funny). So we got the kids to nursery and school, and set off at 10, got there and not one rabbit out in the fields no new signs and it had rained overnight, but the weather was gorgeous sun was out and when in the dips the wind was ok too. Found one warren with some fresh droppin -
Oh i know... I alaays put abit of dry food in too, They are on rabbit on the weekend and chicks (they love them) during the week, i put a crow in there last night, but i dont think they like it. ??? FF

Sorry guys n gals... Has probably been answered 100 times before but... Which is best are they wll pretty much the same? Went out with the kids to a few pet shops today, to mainly check and get some dry food. One shop does their own brand and jw (bets @ gnome) another does their own brand (hollies), then theres that auction site (fleamay), Is there any to stay away from or to get please? FF

I found a dead rabbit this morn on my perm, no signs of being shot or attacked only eyes pecked out by a crow that got shot and is in with the ferrets (but i dont think they like it). I was going to check its liver but i forgot my knife its in my ferret bag. school boy error, Ive heard of this blood virus they can catch and its supposed to be devistating. FF

Am I Wrong To Ask For Proof That A Ferret Work
Furrosious ferreter replied to Ash Dav's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
I got two ferrets 5 weeks ago, i got some old drain pipe and dragged a rabbit through it and dragged it across the garden too, then put the ferret down on the ground and she knew what to do, they are totally different ferrets when out then when at home, The seller told me they were from working stock, good enough for me, But i have found you have to let them finish before you pick them out the holes or out their hutch (let them come to you) or theyll skulk and snap at you, Ive only had one out in the field so far but she took to it really well shes bolted plenty but ive missed holes, the o -

So then went out this morning, Dam ferret killed in the first warren i went for luckily it was right near a hole just over an arms length in so no digging, wow the sound they make, Got the ferret out and she was buzzing, i didnt know what to do? Do i put her back in or move on or stop altogther? I didnt have my air rifle so i decided to put her back in, and got 1 more from that warren, so 2 so far. Moved on and done my first hedge, at one point id thought id lost her or shed killed again, so when she came back out checked for blood and fur but none so we moved on again back on -

Ive just done my hw97 stock, i used a 6 inch nail slightly blunted by hitting on concrete. And another nail shaped down on a 30° angle for the border it worked really well, it was more of a pain oiling and waxing it. Plus put something on your thumb...

I have a regal xl in .177, I got in 2nd hand in march gun only for £515 with a couple of small marks on the action, stock on these are minelli walnut and beautiful the chequering is like velcro. The only thing is mine and others have been reported as being under power, this is an easy fix yourself (but i wont post how to do this) if you are comfortable doing so, After the fix on a 200 bar fill i had 107 shots with a spread of 26 fps, Personally i love this gun and wouldnt sell if my wifes life depended on it lol. It now has a 6-24×50 hawke nite eye sitting on it and shoots spot on out

I seem to remember from when i had snakes, that birds dont have as much calcium in as rats... Ive been feeding them chicks since ive had them and they look healthy and active. FF

When i got my ferret, she was being fed chicks is this a suitable food or should i mix up her diet, with rabbit, dry food, mice, rats from reptile breeder, If anyone could recommend a food seller that posts that would be great. Ive heard of one called "honey brook" anyone use these? Any good? Cheers FF

So, got all my gear ready last night and checked, checked again this morning at 6, Ferret went into box a little nervously and had a bloody good scratch in there, got to my permission bout 30 mins later, Poured my first coffee out and wondered which warren to try her on first, found a nice little one that had 6 holes and only a little fresh droppings infront of the main hole. So out came the nets that were also on test as ive made them. I was quite worried about letting her go with no collar on and no back up ferret, but she does come back to the sound of my zippo opening and closing, so
