  1. Well done fella, great that he had a good time. Atb
  2. Nice story, always makes the bum hole go when you see another light shinning round the field when your poaching! I just turn it off and walk home without turning it on again, never know who is on the end of the other lamp! Atb
  3. Lurcher caught a rabbit 6ft up a hollow tree, not sure what shocked me more turning round and seeing the dog the same height as me digging at the tree or the rabbit that popped out of the tree! Seen loads on roundabouts surrounded by large roads that have no right to be there to.
  4. Used straw for over 30 years and never had an issue, they love it. Just my opinion. Atb
  5. Only good thing is with many people reporting low numbers if they start early and have a successful breeding year rabbits being rabbits next year could be a bumper year for them. I always notice the lower the population of an area the quicker they start breeding. Atb
  6. Seen this quite a few times, it's quite nasty even when your not squimish. Normally a foreign body in that's trying to escape, as others have mentioned either an air gun pellet or thorn.
  7. When you see the in tunnel footage makes you appreciate just how tough ferrets are. I have a lot of respect for the ferret, battling a animal a lot bigger than it in complete darkness. Awesome creatures.
  8. Nice write up and pictures. Looks nice permission, just got in from a day of blackthorn hedges and barbed wire! Nice looking dog to!
  9. As rabbit demon said I have had several ferrets get small pieces of bones stuck in there throats or back of there mouth have a careful look if he keeps coughing.
  10. That's very unusual, bolted lots of stoats before. Normally they do a runner rather than stay and fight shame this one didn't! How is your ferret now? Other than that looks like you had a good day out.
  11. Hi mate, my brother in law has 1/2 cross bull whippet and he is very slow compared to my lurchers. If that's a cross you like would definitely look for 3/4 whippet bull. Good luck with your search.
  12. Thanks for the advice, taking her out Friday. Hope for the best. Good luck tonight Joe hope you have a good one. Atb
  13. My limited understanding of RHD is that the rabbits show little or no sign of illness or disease in the rabbit and that they will just die often within 24hrs of getting sick. They often die in their sleep underground so would explain why they appear to have just disappeared. Unfortunately it's very contagious and can wipe a population out. Let's just hope rabbits can do what they do best and repopulate quickly! Atb
  14. Good advice given lads, slightly piggy backing on this tread (hope you don't mind Joe!) my bitch actually seems to struggle to see rabbits in the lamp. She catches very well by day but when I take her out at night she often just doesn't seem to even see the bunny I have the lamp on, she has good vision in daylight hours. Has anyone heard of a dog that has a eye fault that affects there night vision??? Thanks for any replies in advance. Atb
  15. Had a decent start on some new permissions but some old permissions low on numbers. Two out of three dogs already been out of action with rips and cuts. £700 in three weeks on vet bills!
  16. Looks like you had a good day mate, been doing a lot of hedges farmers have cut recently proper double edged sword helps you get in the hedges but holes full of hedge cuttings! Hope your whippet didn't get to tangled! Atb
  17. I do quite a lot of large burys with lots and lots holes and find if you don't use purse nets the rabbits just come straight out of one hole into another often having seen man or dog and then prefer to take there chance with the ferret than bolt again. If you are doing smaller holes they work well but I do like a purse net as although it takes longer I personally feel that set right they are more effective.
  18. Cracking pup. Like a solid looking puppy.
  19. Good luck mate. Hope you have a good day
  20. Fair play for ferreting those awkward holes, so many pictures on here are of lovely open holes with nothing obstructing them! I look on dreaming! Dog looks useful mate.
  21. Mk1 for me because t with the mk3 collars. In my opinion the new collars are brilliant.
  22. Agree with wuyang, it's not a case of lack of fire in its belly it's just the wrong dog for teeth. Would be unfair to knock a big bull x because it was slower off the mark than a pure whippet. If you want a pure rabbit dog then get a whippet or whippet lurcher but if you want an all round dog for teeth and hooves then probably not the right dog for you.
  23. I use both 10oz nylon and spun nylon and only really lay the 10oz if there's no obstructions at all (open holes in grass etc) as I find they just catch on anything and don't purse properly. Can't beat spun nylon in my opinion (plus ferrets seem to find it easier to get through spun nylon without getting stuck!). Atb
