Wild boar testicles Well, this is not a common meal. Most hunters will just throw them away right after gutting the carcass but I will always keep them (even in the mating season) When I took the pictures, I was really hungry and, since this recipe is requiring some time, I also added a tenderloin 1. Clean the testicles and cut them in 2. In the end, they should look like this: 2. Cover the testicles with vinegar and let them rest for 1 hour (young male) up to 1 day (old male). Meanwhile, quickly prepare the tenderloin with some olive oil, thyme, garlic a

As I already explained HERE, the main way of hunting wild boars in Romania is at driven hunts with dogs and beaters. This way of hunting is not appreciated by everyone because some people will consider this dangerous due to slugs and bullets that could do harm at big distances or due to the bears that could/will appear, especially in autumn, in mountains & hills areas (2/3 of the country). A bear is usually not representing a danger to someone because they are still afraid of humans (don't know for how long with this exaggerated protection!) but at a driven hunt he is harassed by the dog

It's just me or the taste is better if the animal was hunted, prepared & cooked by myself? I prefer to keep the recipe simple if I have good quality meat but I will add some more spices when I have meat from males hunted during the rut season. I will start this topic with something simple - roebuck 1. Hunt a roebuck...or 2 2. Skin the animal and prepare the carcass 3. Cut and clean the backstrap. I prefer to cut each backstrap in 2. 4. Rub the backstrap with some salt, pepper, coriander (dried seeds), put it in a plastic bag and let it in t

Unable to load all the images at once. The tail of the cow also remained there. The rest of it was dragged in a thick bush 200m away and we decided to avoid going there (obvious reasons :D) This was a hungry big boy and after his appearance he remained the only one feeding from the carcas -

The bad part of the spring in the mountains of Romania is that the bears are hungry. Here is what left from a cow after 2 days.. -

The last one in the group was a young male, fully covered in mud. Weird time for a bath if we consider the fact that the water is freezing during the night in this period of time. Probably he has some parasites to get rid off... I used the occasion to also bring something "sweet" for the deers (heavy load when you need to climb ~2-3 km) The good news are that spring is finally here... -
Yesterday I had a lovely tour in the nature in one of my favorite hunting areas from Carpathians. I managed to view some animals and also to take a few pictures. Here is a group of red deer females

Imagine this: No other human on a 25 km radius, no artificial lights during the night -
Is the same animal, is just the difference from winter coat. I'm sure that it was a medal (at least silver). His father (the one from the bottom) was a gold medal. I will upload a better picture when I will be back home

Nobody was able to shot him, he is now old and with a smaller trophy. Here is another picture of him but is made in spring (~250m distance and an old Nikon D3100 55-300)

Driven hunting is, in my opinion, the traditional way of hunting in my country. The main species hunted this way are wild boars (the most popular), foxes, golden jackals, hares and pheasants. When we manage to get rid of the stupid bureaucracy imposed by the "greens", we are also hunting bears and wolves in the same way. We are not allowed to hunt red stags or roe deers in this way. In most cases, driven hunting is not possible without hunting dogs and we are using a variety of them but the most spreaded ones are Transylvanian Scenthounds (Sadly, due to frequent injuries, many hunters are n

Thank you for the warm welcome! Just returned from a 6 days hunting trip. The red stag season just started in Romania and the show was fantastic in my first night (5 stags roaring near me). But the wolves started to chase them an now is no roar in my area. Waiting for cold weather...

Hello, Is there any big game driven hunt in UK? If yes, how is this usually organized? I was in UK (Exeter area) for about 3 weeks and I have seen many wild animals on the fields (mostly roe deer and foxes). It seems that the agriculture occupies almost the entire land, leaving little room for wild vegetation (used as shelter from big animals)

A good advice. @treefella don't waste time and money with military rifles for hunting. You could have a variety of bullets in .30-06 or .308 specially designed for hunting. And is no animal in Europe that could stand in front of the old .30-06, from foxes to bears

I'm not selling anything I work in the IT world and hunting is for me just a passion and not a business

Hello, I'm from Romania and I reticently discovered this forum. Hunting is a family tradition in my case and I remember going out in the nature since when I was only a small child. I like old hunting weapons and I have one shotgun (16/70 Merkel Suhl from 1963) for small game and also mixed-bag driven hunts. I also have an old ZB rifle in 7x57 (or .275 Rigby) from 1947 for deer hunting and a lever-action Winchester in .45-70 for big game driven hunts (mostly wild boars). I go hunting in the entire country because we have a variety of ecosystems and we are able to hunt everything from qu
