Jeeesus Mary and Joseph! and I thought eejit was Irish slang! thanks for your kind message!

Thanks Bobza! I was beginning to wonder if I was in the right place at all! I thought all lurcher people knew about luck money! But who knows - all I know about it is from Ireland! Thing is i would like a bit of breeding and a bit of brains and I do like a beauty. Once upon a time I lived in Russia for a while and I knew a great woman who had a load of working salukis there. I loved them. I think my absolute ideal would be greyhound x saluki x collie. But I'm open to idea and offers (ha ha - no DONT make the joke!) and I wouldn't mind a full bred saluki as long as it has been nowhere near the

thanks del boy. I'll just keep posting then shall I?? and Ive gotta say, some people on here have been really kind and helpful. And you know what - I'm enjoying wasting time here too. Its 14 July here tomorrow - today? - big party in France. And we can't even get into a town for the festivities cos of car situation. So I decided to spend some time looking into my next lurcher instead of going mad up some french mountainside ...... Oh dear. probably going to get some cracked replies to THIS post!

ferretess - Sul was about 26/ 27 inches. Quite houndy but with serious hind quarter muscles. But it was her character I liked best. She was NEVER an eejit and she knew what she thought about life. So on the work front, I plan to get a really good dog that I like and THEN start asking questions about the best thing to put her to. I quite like the idea of a bit of lurcher racing - no blood there! - but problem is that doesn't require much brains. And I want a dog I can respect. I know I'm a total newbie and I must seem pretty silly to you all but I am serious about this. And I don't want to ge

luck money might be a bit of a irish traveller thing, I don't know. It's where you buy an animal off someone - a dog or a horse say - and they give you back a little bit of the money you paid for it so that you should have good luck with it. Anyone here heard of luck money?

Just to let you know, folks, the reason I came on this site is cos I was looking at getting a pup from Hancocks and then a whole lot of comments came up on the search from this site about they're just puppy farmers etc and I thought to myself - do I just want a manufactured pup? No. I want something magical and unique like I got last time and I thought I'd join up here and ask for advice from people who seem to know. So if you want to know what sort of dog I'm after I want a beauty like my Sulya with all her heart and all her brains that I could be happy to live with for the next 14 years and

thanks bobza. I knew it was just light hearted banter - just trying to give as good as i got lol!

well I'm thinking lamping but first I'll find the dog and then i'll decide what suits her. Dog comes first. I feel like she's already out there and just waiting for me to find her.... It's like fate. Only thing is want luck money with her and if you ask someone to give you luck money how can it be luck money anymore? Is that just an Irish thing or do they know about it in England and Scotland?

I've got one broken down car already, thanks for the offer bobza!

Hi Ferretess. I didn't work my last lurcher but I regretted it, because I realised from her natural hunting abilities that that was what she was born to do. By the time I wised up she was too old. I want to work my next one, but I also want to get a pup with good enough lines to breed from and know I'll find good sensible lurcher loving homes for her off spring. I lived in the countryside in county Kilkenny Ireland for 15 years and that's where I got my Sulya. When my marriage broke up I moved to London. I'm now in France on holiday but stuck with a broken down car!
-
Enough already. And by the way folks, my profile pic is my late Sulya. Bit small I know, but we all have our problems!
-
In your dreams Bobza!

OK I've got a picture of Sul from my phone. Its not a good one- its the day before she died. She looks pretty thin and manky, poor old lady.Thing is, I can't see how to post a photo on this site. Any clues?

Just realised that emoji might not have been the right choice!
-
Glad to hear it. Just haven't come across any of them yet.

Anyway, glad to give you all a bit of a laugh on a wednesday evening. If anyone's got a REALLY hilarious comment to make, go right ahead and hit me with it. I'm stuck in a weird house in France with a broken down car and I could do with a giggle. xx

Trying with the pics. And I get it. Some unknown female turns up on this site with stupid questions about dogs to you guys who all know each other and of course you take the piss. Actually, it's a gas and I don't really take offence. Just doing my bit to wind you guys up back. And I do understand about the field craft thing. But think about it .... if you were a woman and went on a macho site like this would you just say "oooh.. I know nothing about lamping or anything else. Anyone want to show me how?'. I mean, would you?!?

Of course I've got pics of her. I'm just not THAT great at technology. Trying to swap them onto my new laptop so I can post. And by the way, fella from west cork, darling. My bitch Sul came from a small place on the border between Galway and Clare and when I asked about the litter he told me he know they were good ones cos he'd thrown a rabbit in there and they'd ripped it right up. Whether that was true or not only god knows, but she was a good one to me. AND i got luck money.
-
Yeah - haha! But after the Chihuahua comment any thing was possible! Most of my photos are on my phone. Trying to import them to my laptop so I can post, but you know - I'm better at handbags that technology. I'd love to post one though. So I'll keep trying.

You might be right about the mentoring thing. I was thinking about that. But you know, you don't just jump on an anonymous web site and say hi, my name is Kate B do you want to mentor me, do you? unless you ARE an idiot..... I know about addictive, and one day I'm planning to get somewhere with a tiny bit of a paddock and THAT will be the time to think of 2, or 3, or 4 .......! I do understand about the dispatching and killing because ..... do you think I AM an idiot? And meanwhile can some of you guys on here that actually DO have some respect and manners for the rest of humanity message
-
And thank you, extreme off the road goat hunter, for treating me like a proper human being. Doesn't seem like every one on this site is able for that.
-
No don't worry. No offence. I just put you down as an idiot. No offence.

I got my last lurcher by luck when I was living in Ireland. She was a brilliant dog. Although I didn't work her when I got her cos people told me it would cause problems with stock etc. I later regretted that and felt I did her a disservice. Hard for me to tell how good a dog she was. All I can say is that I got a lot of interest about her from travellers ( and I don't want to hear anything against them) and lurcher people when she was young along with offers to buy her. By the time I come to understand how I had cheated her by not working her, she was to old to start. So to me working the d
