When I see that pic you posted I thought it looks like mine that’s why I ask if you had any more pics. How old yours?
-
Hahaha fair enough. This is my Sal Bull Grey x Sal Whip Grey. She not too bad. Good temperament. Caught some daytime gear. I’m happy with her.

Nice him mate any more pictures. How’s he bred?

Ignore em mate full of dicks on here. Dissect every comment you make to make the worst possible image of you. That says a lot more about them than your dog. Sure he’s a gooden mate f**k what others say.

Advice please blokes

Dont ask for advice on terrier work on here mate. Nobody gives productive advice on terrier work for beginners in this section for fear of incriminating themselves or giving the game a bad name by being too honest. Find someone already doing the work and ask them privately. Good luck -
If someone were to change there name by Deed Poll to “Landowner” and they gave you permission to hunt anywhere signing a slip. Wonder if we would have a defence in court due to a technicality ???

Defo miss the buzz. I just lost a dog which was abit of a character. Had to watch him sometimes. Now he’s gone he’s definitely left a hole in the pack.

I have a first cross Bedlington Whippet. Smashes through bushes like a terrier and is fast enough to catch them in the open. I have had 4 patterdale sand only one of them could catch rabbits without help and these were young summer rabbits in bushes. Sure she used to go in quiet like a cat and ambush them. Don’t know how she did it. I just used to here the squeal and there she would have another. I think a bedlington whippet would be a good choice for rabbits and rats mate. You will have better results on the rabbits for sure.

Well think we can all agree that the terrier section on here is a pointless read for anyone wanting to learn anything. Nobody wants to talk terrier work through fear of any repurcussions. Times have changed and not for the better. It’s a shame. Country has gone soft. May aswel get rid of this section.

As above after a Spaniel pup to join the pack for bushing to Runners. Prefer working Cocker or Sprocker or even Beagle Spaniel. Thanks in advance. Atb

Not just about it being in a stop end or the corner shop. It’s about introducing the prey to the dog no matter where it is. Could be in a bramble bush. Nowt wrong with letting a pup see it’s work. Will know by the pups reaction if it’s got the drive or not. Be pulling like mad on the lead baying at it. If it’s not and it’s trying to run away then you probably wouldn’t even try it to ground because the thing will be looking for the fire escape rather than pressuring the prey to bolt.

Nice ? -
I hear what your saying and I agree they have to learn. I wouldn’t say though that a pup watching another work would undo its instinct to search down holes if the instinct is already there. It’s either in the dog or it isn’t. Think we as people can overthink it and we as people always think we know what’s going on in the dogs mind. Truth be told we don’t. It’s all down to the dog at the end of the day. All we can do is take them to the stage. The rest is up to them. Sink or swim. There’s no right or wrong way. All we can do is present them with the opportunity to work.

Well at least you explain your logic behind it. Fair play. People getting angry about other people’s points of view is pathetic. Put your ego’s to bed girls. The lads asking for advice. Give it rather than shooting others down. If I give bad advice fair enough just explain why it’s bad and what can be done for better results. Everyone here for discussion, not war.

Better in what way and what bad habits are we avoiding here? I think letting a pup see it’s prey young in the company of experienced dogs is a good idea for a pup. Honest question above. Everyday a school day. Please explain the logic behind it

Each to their own bud. There’s not a one set way of doing things. It’s only a pup, nothing wrong with letting it have a rag on something with a more experienced dog. Why would that be a bad idea.

Only live once getting the lad a dog is a good idea. Like he says he will own the dog anyway. It will give the lad some responsibility and the lad a job to do and nowt better than having your own dog to work with whilst out with your old man. Feel like a joint enterprise then rather than just tagging along with your old man. Will give him a lot more enthusiasm. Go for it mate. Get him a Beddy whippet. Smart first dog for the lad.

I’m broody for another dog...you got pups going or they all taken? I have a first cross Beddy Whippet dog he punches well above his weight and is absolutely fearless. Bumped into something which well outweighed him and he didn’t shy away one bit. He’s a right game little fella. Only 14 month old at the minute and more than happy with him. Next season he gonna be mustard I’m sure. I underestimated this dog Thinking he’s only a little Whippet cross but he’s shown me they have more fire than meets the eye. Here he is on the left.
