hi guys im thinking of getting a new dog to help me & my beddy x lurcher rabbiting but im not sure what type to get. I like the idea of a terrier type for the hedges but i work silently & not really wanting a dog going down the holes. I think i read its possible to stop the terrier doing that. Any idvice would be great thanks Andy

The way i trained my beddy /whippet was everyday play the recall game with him & just enforce that you are the best thing in its life. No matter how much fun he could have by himself when he came back to me it was always fun for him. Some folks might think im mad by this next statement but it works. Ive always acted to the dog as a dog. If i tell the dog off i use the tones in my voice . Very low tone means once more boyo. Then if he still wont listen i growl at him . He then wont step over that mark. So through his early training he now see's me as top dog (i hope) & when ev

my beddy cross whipet is a ferreting dog, lives inside with the family. He gets treated as part of my team & not a tool. That way i feel i get the best from him. Being with him all day ive learnt to understand his ways. If he has shut ouside i think we wouldnt be able to work so well as a team. Andy

Hi folks i have at the mo a beddy cross whippet to help me with the ferreting. For the job he's fine but he dont like hedges or stingies & the like, (dont blame him!) He's only 14mnths old & as yet has not been out lamping & to date has trouble catching rabbits (i think its just his un experieance) but he's plenty fast enough thou!! I'm thinking of getting another dog as part of the team but cant decide what type. I was thinking a terrer type but the ones ive seen all try to enter the holes & i dont want that! I'd like this new dog to work in the hedges pining or dragging t

I'd like to add my 2 pennies worth to what was in my mind a great weekend. There were a lot of positives & a few negatives. I must admit though, ive never met a better bunch of lads than the boys from Telford. These 3 lads & the dogs were the nicest lads ive ever had the pleasure to meeting. I must say sorry for not getting a massive bag but Rob refused to chase the bunnies ( lazy git!). It also showed me that me & rob do ferreting one way & the Telford lads another, but together both methods works. I'm glad to see we all new how to set purse nets correctly , . That's a

Taff70 replied to iguanaman2442's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
HAHAHA I was thinking of having a drive down but now with all the talk of guns and stuff I will give it a miss, will stick to the peace and quiet of the mountains, my shooting days are over....... Hi guys just wanted 2 add that the 100 acres are divided with the A6 road running through it so the guns 1 side of the A6 while us with dogs the other side. All cars can park on the farm's hard standing or those with 4x4's can park 2 where they want 2 work. If i can get pics i will -

hi rob, i think there might be 3 main teams. It all depends who would like 2 do wat. Like there's that wood that stretches for about 150 yds & more. There is also the hedges that side of the farm that might include poss rough shooting (where we ferreted that 1st day ) & also all the hedges near & around the ponds! Do u remember how long it took us to do those 2 sections of that 1 hedge? We came away with i think 8 then. I think those who want 2 bolt 2 guns should b away from those who want 2 use dogs. -

Looking good so far rob. Once we get a few more 2 make up some teams then maybe start throwing some dates around. There might even b a chance for 1 team 2 bolt 2 their own guns if they are into that as the farm is big enough. -
Good luck out there mate. If i were you shoot 1st then ask questions!

Hi There, Help! i'm a little confused about walking my 16week Lurcher pup! The book i've recently read said that pups should only be walked a little at a time, until 9months then you can increase it to 30mins x 2 daily. My pup loves being out doors, running all over the place. Can anyone give me any advice on the lenght of time i should be walking him? Cheers Andy

Hi folks, Just bought 200yds of sheet netting that i intend to use as a 100yd net for ferreting. Now to be honest with you i'm not sure how long it is as i've not seen it laid out yet! I said that that coz i reckon some folks would say thats far to long. I also have 2 much shorter ones ( used with a game bag like the basket system!) as i find it eiser to use them with the ferrets than getting scratched to hell & back putting down purse nets. My questions are should i just attach my runners & end pins & use it that way (but would it be harder to get the crap out as i pick it up
