    Thats what i mean much as folk like to think it doesnt concern them and point accusing fingers at us after seeing programs like that......its only a matter of time. In East London we havent been overrun by the Africans or the Asians we,ve been overrun by the world.....do folk in rural Britain really think its going to stop at the cities when we currently have foreigners moving out of cities to get away from foreigners !......like i say we are an island where can we run to. No , we in rural Britain don't think it's going to stop in the Cities , because we're seeing the beginning of it here

    Couldn't agree more . Making a habitat pheasants want to be in is essential to drawing wild birds who, after all , are far more canny than recent releases . Putting down attractive food helps of course , but keeping them there is what you're aiming for . From my own experience , being down here in the West Country , pheasants LOVE apple pumice , the bye product of cider making .

    Snares don't have a stop to prevent them tightening , but the law states it can't be a locking snare , that is it can't just keep tightening as the animal pulls and eventually strangle it - which is why so many target animals get away after thrashing about for hours on end - another stupid piece of legislation . You're right about the the siting of it though - absolutely ridiculous place to put a snare . Non target animals use fox runs , and it could have been deer or badger hanging there for all to see.

    Very interesting thread . I have to say, from my limited knowledge, it really seems to depend on where you live ( County constabularies ) , and the individual dealing with your application . And how long you've had an FAC. It also seems to make a difference whether it's a renewal or an application ( and that includes if you forgot to renew ) . From my own point of view , and referring to an earlier poster regarding mental health problems , I was foolish enough to allow myself to be prescribed low level drugs for depression many years ago - I ditched them after six months , it hasn't a

    I'm not an air gunner , but your post is very interesting - are you saying your pellet was off by half a millimetre? I'm sorry if I've misunderstood, but that seems an incredibly small margin of error, which could be attributable to anything. Regarding shooting in the rain - British army ballistics experts in the early twentieth century generally reconned rain made a bullet rise - but we're talking .303 rounds here .

    Thank you all for a warm welcome . Chris , yes it is a great county , so varied like so many others in the British Isles . I'm hoping to post a pic of the results of tomorrow mornings rabbiting expedition ; in fact just got back from a quick walk around my permission , one small rabbit for the pot .

    I would recommend the rabbit drinkers every time- the water stays clean, and doesn't end up slopped all over the bottom of the trap . As has been said , they're inexpensive and last for ages. I ran eight traps with them every season and they saved me loads of time and work .

    If you're a professional stalker , I believe you should have a relevant qualification , even if it just proves you can shoot straight and know one end of a deer from the other . I did the BDS course many years ago, I didn't pay for it my boss did, so I was lucky in that respect . Did I learn anything ? Yes . Has it made me a better stalker ? No . There is no substitute for putting the hours in . I did the BDS course because Avon & Somerset Police flatly refused to add a .243 variation to my FAC1 without it, despite this not being a legal requirement . I haven't done part two ,

    I had an excellent season on my little rough shoot, I think I shot between fifty and sixty pheasant and partridge , missed a few too mind . Plenty of various accounted for. Game season is over but I'm onto the vermin now, loads of rabbits and squirrels about , and need to clear up a few magpies .

    Morning all, Just joined the forum on recommendation from a friend . I've been shooting for a long time now, and enjoy most field sports - currently , I have a small rough shoot , vermin control, and deer stalking . Looking forward to contributing to what looks like an excellent forum !
