  1. Hi Daniel, very kind of you to offer but have my heart set on a hob now. Also still looking for a two tier hutch or a single tier with run if you know of any. Any chance when the hunting season comes back round of tagging along when you go a ferreting?
  2. Been trying to find a mentor, even joined facebook so i could look lol. As for the ferret finder, yep, allready decided I will get one asap.
  3. cheers jax, I fancy having a go at making them. A bit like tying your own traces for fishing I guess, always enjoy doing that before a session
  4. Cheers all, handy to know where to get them when the time comes.
  5. Hi guys, the pinned Nets thread seems to be inactive, so looking for recommendations on where is best place to get nets. Also can anyone recommend a book or dvd etc on making your own purse nets and best place to buy the materials?
  6. Cool, look forward to seeing them.Appreciate all the feedback guys, so much to learn but really enjoying learning about these amazing animals. Edit: Should I be asking about a sable ferret for polecat markings? Are they the same thing? Just read that ferrets with polecat markings are called sable, is this correct?
  7. Hi mate, Sorry for my ignorance, its just i read the albino ferret was originally bred from domesticated polecats so it was easier to spot in the field and was also smaller due to breeding preferences. But now as more and more people keep them as pets the polecat marking are becoming popular again. Are all the ferrets with the polecat markings big?
  8. Just out of curiosity, what food do you feed your ferrets on a daily basis?
  9. I wouldn't want to dig 8 foot with it, but it's the only spade I take out with me and its not let me down to date. Pic next to a fairly standard spade for comparison... Perfect
  10. Very interesting topic. So much to learn about ferret husbandry. I am a bit of a sponge at the moment, absorbing as much info as possible about the sport.
  11. Cheers all, some good recommendations. The roughneck seems to look the buissness
  12. Yeah, sorry. I've got one, there small but quality. Cheers, D. Nice one mate, just the job
  13. Cant see the bulldog ones on screwfix but I did see the Roughneck round point Micro shovel. Is that the one you mean?
  14. Was thinking something more covert, that could fit in a poachers pocket
  15. Looking for a small hob with polecat markings. South Wales area.
  16. Hi guys, anyone recommend a sturdy small spade maybe a trenching spade or the like? Already have a garden spade but a smaller one would suit me better when out in the sticks.
  17. Once again.thank you Comanche for the info. Ill start saving for a tracker n collar, maybe ill get lucky and find one second hand as im saving. will also look up the books you mention. I agree about hunting rabbit or any other creature when they have young about, not something I would do. On the plus side if I can get my Ferret soon, I will have plenty of time to build up a relationship with it through handling and play before the hunting season. I also live on my own so am looking forward to a ferret companion. I like the idea of a single small hob to start. Avoid the problems that could
  18. Cheers for the video, very interesting. Shame about the mixi.
  19. As a total newcomer to ferrets, what are the best dates to hunt and is there a closed season?
  20. Cheers for the advice mad4it, Why Jill,s as a starting sex? Are they easier to train? Also, do Jill ferrets have a down period when in season, meaning they can't hunt during this time? Unfortunately don't have any friends that hunt with ferrets but I am asking about for a local contact.
